Thanks so much for this. I was also a passenger at 7 years of age in 1964. I remember the Bay of Biscay when everyone was sick, seeing camels in the desert along the Suez Canal, the town of Aden, the little boats of vendors selling toys and what not. They would send up the toy on a rope, and you sent the money down the same way. Crossing the equator and having the ceremony to placate Neptune. Then Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney where we left and caught a train for Brisbane. Being cheeky kids, my sisters and I made up songs mimicking the Italian waiters - mit, mit, zoup zoup zoup. zoup zoup, fish fish fish and so on. A big adventure and it really was.

Thanks for sharing the memories. I sailed on her as a young boy of 8 emigrating to Australia with my family in 1964. To a young boy of 8 it seemed such a huge ship and a great adventure.

My mum brought my sister and me to Australia on this ship. We had Xmas 1965 on the ship and I got a doll from Santa. Still have the photo taken with all the other kids. We were on D deck in cabin 523. It was a huge adventure and I've never forgotten the Castel Felice or our trip by train to Adelaide from Melbourne. I really enjoyed watching this.

We came to Australia in 1963. There were 5 children( I was 4 years old) and the youngest was 2. I can remember Port Said and Aden. I used to line up for ages to get on the rocking horse which seemed huge to me then. I was too shy to attend the Nursery School. Amazing to think that we went down the SUez canal and I still remember 100's of people waving at us from a train .

My parents and their 5 kids (ages under 1 yr to 5 1/2 ) sailed on this ship from England to Australia over the holiday season 1965-66. I'll never forget a wicked swell that tossed the ship sideways during a storm- scared the life nearly out of my 5 yr old self! I have a few photos from that trip.

We sailed from England to Australia on this shop in August 1963. I was born in 62 and I learned to walk on the voyage. My parents told me that when we landed in Australia I had to learn to take those stumbling steps all over again.
My father had an 8mm movie camera and he filmed some of the milestones of the trip: crossing the equator and the equator ceremony, us kids playing on the deck.
Parts of the journey were so rough that even the crew got seasick. Dinner was called off on one occasion as there was no one to prepare it, or serve it.
The journey lasted 6 weeks I believe and ended in Freemantle, Western Australia

First of all, thank you ever so much for these excellent clips! In this one, you have had a mishap as you have used a wrong photo in the start - the Kenya in these images was built in about 1951. Castel Felice was conversion of an earlier vessel called Kenya.

Something is wrong here. The SS Kenya and her sister ship SS Uganda were BI Line doing regular voyages between London Docks and Mombasa. I know because I am old enough to have traveled on board both. The ship featured here is entirely different and on a different route.

I sailed from Auckland to Southampton on the Castel Felice in 1960. The sea was like a millpond all the way. Speed had to be reduced because of a fouled propeller on the outward voyage. The single fare in a D deck cabin was £91.00! Over a month full board. Try doing that now.

i was going through some documents given to me by an aunt when my grandmother passed away. It was given to her by my father. It is SItmar Line "Castel Felice" Postal Information document. It is dated 13th May 1968. i no we went to Australia as a family of five around that time. But would love to find out more information. Could anyone point me in the direction as to where I could find some information. We lived in Sydney until 1977.
