I mistook her hair for a jellyfish and thought "Oh, I get it! She's a Medusa-form!"
I then realized that those were snakes and I now get that I am a dummy

On another note: Medusa is very tragic and melancholy character. Her only crime was being a little too pretty.

Even though legends and myths describe Medusa as a monster, she was first of all a good woman before Poseidon messed everything up (I won't say that word, I hate that word).

Myth fact:
Medusa is not the name of a species from greek myth, but rather it is the name of a single mortal woman who was turned into a monster by Athena. After posiden assaulted her in Athena's temple.
The actual race that she belongs to is called Gorgons, and not all of them turn people to stone it is just Medusa who does that.

well they're both from Classical Greek Mythology, the story of Perseus was recorded by Ovid, who was a Roman storyteller. Lamias are mentioned by Aristophanes in a few poems, and from what I can tell, the story of the Lamia is much older. Hope that answers your question.

So in the movie "Looks That Kill" There's a teen that is lethally attractive but at the end of the movie he learns the people that love him for more than just his beauty can live through seeing his face. Since somethings say Medusa turns you to stone cause you feel that much fear down the road we look at her on accident but don't die because we already like her and have no reason to fear her

Since the story behind this Medusa isn't the true story from Greek Mythology, I assume that this is not her. But rather, just a regular human who got metaphorically stabbed in the back. If so, then you conveyed that perfectly, as to be expected from someone so perceptive as a teacher in the education system (thank goodness it's not the US system, though 😉). Warning: incoming rant
It always kinda bothers me when people paint medusa as a “misunderstood victim”, when the poet Ovid pulled that completely out his own ass.
Long story short: he had problems with authority because he got banished for sleeping with some guy’s daughter (I think a king, don’t remember) so all of his mythological fanfics have serious anti-authority themes, even completely rewriting entire stories just to fit that theme. In earlier versions, Medusa is nothing but a gorgon, never human in any way. Ovid completely made up the “Medusa is a victim” thing with no basis in his source material. Ovid’s versions do work for some stories, such as the many stories of Zeus’ rapist adultery, just very much not the story of Medusa
