    Coming from a non-Muslim, I think this is great! I do wonder why the title of the video is Science vs. Religion. Isn't Nouman Ali Khan saying that Islam doesn't separate one from the other, and that it is the only of the Abrahamic faiths that requires a direct treatment of the external world? I think many people would benefit from this message of a holistic treatment of the soul, psyche, or ruh.

    I think that the major obstacle to our faith today, is that we live in the era of what can be called "scientific naturalism". This doctrine is a system of thought which says that the world can only be explained by itself. It is a system of tought based on rejection. Its origins and the reason for its success can be understood by studying history.
    But we muslims will never surrender to this doctrine, because we believe in the GHAYB and the knowledge given through revelation.
    Sociologically speaking, this behavior of ours (muslims) angers the ~Western World~ because we are seen as the poor undeducated ex-colonized fools who could not possibly possess The Truth. The Western World suffers a complex of superiority over us, this is why they are blinded to our argumentation, even if it were to sound right to their ears they wouldn't accept it (except if Allah wills). We should not feel inferior to this and we should focus on studying the Qur'an with confidence and peacefullly.

    this is actually quite sad. If I think about it, the ones who think about this world so much and less care about the deen, do all the good deeds. Like for example, the famous food activist - she's probably not too religious, but her works clearly save a world a lot. Then Gates, with their foundations. Then Tesla, with his idea of energy savings stuff, and many more. The ones that really focus on the afterlife like late Gandhi and Mother Theresa, also, definitely bring a world to a better situations. And those people are awesome.
    And here i am, a muslim, with muslim colleagues friends and family, and very rare i found my fellow muslim who do care even a bit for the earth, the world, the people. We still don't care about less waste, about recycling. We are the munafiqun who pray five times a day, and still throw garbage to the river. we mock others who fight for environment, for justice for all children. We do totally the opposite.
    And everytime i try to remind myself and others, i got mocked as well.
    So, let's just keep on fighting fellow humans - who were blessed enough to find this video and received a bit of enlightenment here.
    Let us not stop here. And let us do something good for the sake of balance between our deen and our dunya.

    i enjoyed this the only moment when i lost him is when he said that guilt comes only from the unseens, actually there are good scientific reasons why a spocial animal would evlove the feeling of guilt, to help sustain a healthy soeciety. Apart from that i hope Islam gets more thinking people and less radicals.

    • @truthwithjustification5889
      @truthwithjustification5889 Před 9 lety +3

      [KAIN] ReNz0r Muslims are the only thinking people.. Rest of all ideologies rely on conjectures and start thinking after getting started on basic questions. If there is an evolutionary explanation for any feeling then it does not mean it is against religion. Evolution itself is the Intelligent Design. That thuderbolt instantaneous creation is imagination of non-muslims. We believe God planned and designed everything. If it is evolutionary process that is behind all our behavior then that is it. That is the very design of God.

    • @blugublu
      @blugublu Před 9 lety +1

      [KAIN] ReNz0r
      If you think that life only evolves through the sole principle of natural selection, then it makes absolutely no sense to why we have a consciousness to begin with, since this very consciousness of ours renders a kind of will or determination which can go in total opposition against this so-called ultimate polarization which is supposed to be the natural selection.
      Our message is way simpler and NATURAL (how ironic that this word can be used here) than the modern ~natural selection dogma~ and it simply says: the whole world belongs to God and we (human beings) are creatures which have been given the capacity to go against the will of God, for a limited amount of time (life) and for a precise purpose.

      Hi
      _ actually there are good scientific reasons why a spocial animal would evlove the feeling of guilt_
      I get you. The issue I have is that the evolutionary mechanism proposed for phenomena such as altruism and guilt etc are based on conjecture.
      These are just theories that are untestable since we are dealing with something that happened over millenia and which exists in the past and of behaviours for which there can be no evidence left.
      _Apart from that i hope Islam gets more thinking people and less radicals._
      I second that.

    The concept of Religion “دين" and science "علم" is totally different in islam. Religion in the western sphere has been minimized to means only belief, in Islam the three blocks of religion are belief, knowledge-science, and work “good deeds” الإيمان، العلم، العمل.

    The theory of evolution is not contradictory to islamic faith. Both support each other. Evolution refers to pre-adam humans who were human specie in every respect but were exactly the same as animals as to intelligence i.e. they were human animals who became extinct with time just like some other animals e.g. dinosaurs. Thereafter , Allah (swt) created Adam who is the first human of our breed with intelligence and free will. The science follows the evolution of humans physically whereas, there was an induction of supreme human being by Allah(swt) in between i.e. Adam .

      Evolution can easily be viewed as a creative process. A process of constant creation. Every moment creates another and as such, the moment, or thing, that is part of the process evolves. Evolution, Creation, it's just two different names for the same thing if viewed from the right perspective. People should stop nitpicking over nothing. Religious or not. But that's just one of many perspectives on the matter that I have thought about.

    "Who said science was a European invention. There were ancient Hindu and Muslim scientists and philosophers. In fact Muslims in Indian made great feats in mathematics and science, for example zero was founded by them."
    Nobody has said that science was a European invention. The speaker is saying that it was the Europeans who propagated the notion of science as the dominant worldview. In philosophy this worldview is called physicalism, or more appropriately, materialism. After all, it is our worldview which dictates our morals and behaviours, and ultimately, our way of living.
    The speaker's point is that science has been used in Europe as the antithesis of religion and spirituality - as an antithetical philosophy in response to religion - and that this oppositional stance of science against religion has been promulgated as a result of the rebellion against the authoritarian Christian religious doctrine.
    But the reality is that it's a false dichotomy. Science and religion aren't natural enemies, and can consistently (in the logical sense of the word) coexist within their own frameworks (caveat: the creationist who believes the earth is 6,000 years old). Unfortunately, we've been brainwashed to think otherwise.

      @amonra5436 Před 8 lety

      +faismasterx belief is a mental state of the brain. If belief is based on evidence, observation, testing, knowledge of tested, accurate, factual information , then it works.
      Every Muslim relies on these simple scientific reasoning, let's say when crossing the street. They observe the road, listen whether the car is coming, maybe they know it's a crowded street and better look for a traffic lamp, to decide whether to cross or not.
      When it comes to the claims about Allah, then social constructs and myths become dominant over factual reasoning, which we call 'departmentalisation'

    This is the problem that Martin Luther had with the church in his time and it should be the problem you, Mr Ali Khan, should have with islam today.

    Do you want to live in a world where you know all the gods but no facts, or would you prefer to know all the facts but no gods?
    That's why we teach science to our children.

    • @varkkha
      @varkkha Před 8 lety +1

      +Amon Ra well as muslim ..i prefer live with fact and God. of course science can't determine or examine God (if you ypu want to prove it existed) . still we can rasionalization the god. for science as far as i know in islam, Allah(as creator) being state in al quran is not similiar with the creation(everthing existed on earth n heaven) meaning also in science term...God is didnt made up with matter like human...or maybe also not have any matter. so similiar with darkmatter we try to search in science...it may not react to normal matter...which our device in taking measurement build by normal matter.
      and again another properties of God is it not need space and didn't being influent with time becoz both of this is god created them. i have good place to start to search the region of god....where time and space no longer matter....beyond black hole ....well science still not figure out it yet what is out side (mathematicly) ..only imagination but that not fact. i still love reading about darkmatter...so how about you...do u live with fact?

    • @amonra5436
      @amonra5436 Před 8 lety +1

      +varkkha yes we do not know everything about black holes, dark matter and dark energy, but still we can detect and measure effects of them. We measure the gravitational force of the dark matter in our galaxy, we measure the expansion of the universe to find out the dark energy, we observe neighboring stars to detect the presence of the black hole and we have measured neutrinos flux and energy content.
      So if this god has no properties which are detectable and measurable in some sense, how is it different from nothing?

    • @varkkha
      @varkkha Před 8 lety

      Yes Allah didn't have properties that can be detectable (as state in Al quran). as black hole, dark matter and dark energy these thing exist same begining with big bang which also same with normal matter that may the reason why we still able to observe "it".
      another properties of Allah is timeless and spaceless. but still it able to have properties of powerfull. so time and space exist after big bang...so before that before time and space exist....what make it trigger for big bang to happen?
      even without knowing Allah. people still can conclude that something most powerfull at one point start the big bang before time and space exist. but the human knowledge based on the law exist in this world(world of our now)....to understand Allah..we must enter the knowledge of God region....
      one way i can suggest it we understand what is beyond the black hole (hopefully) we able to understand it becoz black is where our current knowledge of physic unable to explain beyond it which i believe there are different law of universe there..without time without space able to exist. at least there we can able to understand with new knowledge(of math or physic) to understand it n might lead to able to detect something called Allah.
      becoz nothing can't create something.

    • @amonra5436
      @amonra5436 Před 8 lety

      varkkha So even if can't detect or measure anything, you seem to know the properties of Allah: Powerful, timeless, he made the big bang bang, whatever...
      And also you suggest that he is inside a black hole, you know maybe which one?

    • @varkkha
      @varkkha Před 8 lety

      Based on what is Allah yes..that his properties. and yes everything being made are fom God. the existed of thing are the prove existhing of something beyond time and space base on big bang.
      Nope...that not what i mean ..in order to able the acknowlage the existed of god in science view. the science mu be able to develope mathematical calculation using different law of physic base on studies in black hole becoz as we know our current law of physic unable to explain what beyond when time and space crumble there (by mathematical equation which science that it can be as fact...and where u be able to satisfied)
      Hopefully we can determine what thing can be existed there (as their properties) and if it happen it able made me cross cheack the 99 properties of Allah as muslim know(mention in Al quran). by the way Allah didn't stay in the black hole becoz saying like that are refering God stay on a place while God is spaceless..which unable fo to point a certain space place for God. what i mean is beyond the black hole...any black hole, space is not relavent anymore..

    We use to live in a time where male lived to an average age of 40 and 1 out of every 5 female dies during child birth. It wasn't religion that helped us through these sufferings. it was advancement in Science and medicine. Islam is past her prime and like any past civilization that peaked she is no longer a model for progress which essentially rules out Science. That is why the most populous Muslim countries like Indonesia, India or Pakistan will remain poor and religious. Religion isn't the answer it is the hindrance that will stop you or your children from getting out of these third world trap when they single out progressive models as being evil.

    I can't help but feel some of his statements on history and modern science are rather reductionist, especially regarding psychology. He's guilty of the same mental trappings that cause "secularists" to view religious thinking/Islam as backwards and primitive. He's not qualified to comment on psychological findings the way he feels he's at liberty to. He's a student and teacher of Arabic.
    At the end of the day, why can't we appreciate the benefits both religion and science have to offer? Why must we always view them as mutually exclusive? If a scientific theory challenges religious teachings, why can't we conduct an honest exploration of both instead of unequivocally condemning one over the other? It just seems so counter-productive...

    Really? Are you the only ones? Generally a great lecture. I really loved it. But Islam is not the only religion that finds balance between material and spiritual world. Vaisnavism, Sikhism, Rastafarianism and many other religions are also very balanced at the core (of course, there are some unbalanced ways in these religions too, and in Islam too). I wonder when we put this sectarian approach aside and appreciate the truth regardless of wherever we find it.
