How to Make Your Split King Bed

  • A split king bed has two twin extra long mattresses, and they're usually atop two twin extra long adjustable (or power) bed bases. They're great if your partner prefers a firmer sleep surface than you do. They're also wonderful if one partner needs or wants to sleep in a raised or sitting position during the night. Many of our customers ask us if it is difficult to make the bed. But it really isn't. In this video, I'll show you how to make the bed using mattress protectors (a must) and split king size sheets.

    I’m 71 and have been making my split king for over 15 years and when I’m finished it doesn’t have any wrinkles.
    To get the wrinkles out you will need to raise both the top and bottom of the bed. Put both ends up at least to a 45° angle. Then push the sheets onto each corner tucking/pulling about 6 inches of the sheet under the mattress bottom on each corner. When you lower the bed, the sheets are pulled tight with no wrinkles....You have to tuck at least 6 inches under the corners for this to work and you still have to climb on the other bed to tuck the sheets on the inside of the dual beds. Then make the bed as you usually do. Hope everyone enjoys their split king!

      I have split bases, but haven't changed out my king mattress yet...but will do soon(ish). But like you, I figured out that it was MUCH easier to make the bed with the head and feet up, and then when you lower the bed it snugs in the sheets nicely. Easier than a regular bed.

Thank you for sharing, now I can figure it out. I absolutely hate my adjustable bed but my hubby needs it. No sheet ever, never stays on so I'm trying out the king split top. Ugh. And I can attest to the fact that both of us are pretty grumpy most of the time anyway. 💗 Love my hubby!!

    Bedframestore: I have a question about installing the fitted sheets, does the strap go all the way under the bed platform or in-between the platform and the mattress, You did not show or tell us about that. I assume the top sheet would tuck under just the mattress as it would come loose if you rose the foot end of the bed.

    The mattress pad seems very loose fitting compared to the fitted sheets with the bands. I need a super snug fit so I use the garters underneath but they are a big hassle. Is your fit tighter than it appears. Do the sheets keep the mattress pad tight?

    I'm 72 yrs old hubby is same Hate making bed sheets when changing them. I can't lift or get on bed on knees to climb over to lift materressup to put sheet on its a 14" mattress. Heavy. Love how it sleeps but no way am I getting a split bed again . Will do a queen no split. I've seen where you put both ends up put sheets on corners then lower the ends till flat if you can climb all over the frame when up in air. We have a hard time making our bed . No split king for us again thought we would use the adjustable bed but hardly use it. Plenty room but wished we gotten a queen regular size .

    When we bought our split king adjustable bed the saleswoman suggested moving mattress sideways to put on the protector and sheets. I did that a few times but I am only 5'4" and a small build so I needed help! I discovered I could lift each mattress over the outer corner brackets that hold the mattresses from shifting, pull them over and prop each mattress on top of the corner brackets. This creates a space down the middle of the bed, exposing the bases and I walk up the middle of this space to secure ther inner corners. Then I secure all the outer corners and lift the mattresses up over the brackets then I slide them back in place, making sure the sheets are secure on the outer corners. I make the rest of the bed without needing any help!
    One problem is that King comforters do not cover the adjustable bases. We don't have a bed frame so you see the empty space under the bed.
    Any suggestions?

    Too bad it's very hard to find a split Queen but if I want to buy a split mattress, it will either have to be a California king or a regular King. Also the good thing about the two twin XL is that it is easy to move around and rotate the bed if you need to versus rotating a queen size mattress. But the disadvantages is that it's still takes up a lot of room.

    I was wondering about this ... when you have a split king that shares the same top sheet and comforter, what happens when you have one partner laying flat sleeping and the other partner wishes to raise the back. I would think it would slide the sheets a bit over top of the person sleeping, potentially walking them up. If they have their covers nice and snuggled against their neck, it might "unsnuggle" the sheets. I've never known anybody to have this bed set up, so I'm not sure how that works.

    • @bedframestore321
      @bedframestore321  Před 4 lety +1

      Having had this set up for a couple of years, you get used to your partner's movements and you adjust your covers. It's not that big of a deal.

      @@bedframestore321 Thanks for such a quick response. That was my biggest concern. I suppose also you could just put a little slack in the sheets between the two, so putting the back up would take the slack sheets and not the sheets covering the partner.

      My wife and I just purchased a split King back in Oct 21. Due to my medical back issues I was sleeping in a hospital bed by my self, wife moved to the daughters room due to the air mattress in my hospital bed was way to noisy for her to sleep as its air pump runs the entire time and does make a lot of noise. So we have not slept together since May of 2012. Now that we are back in the same room and bed. it has taken some getting used to each others sleeping habits and now the split bed issues as I have to have my head and legs up, she just about half my head height. So when she rolls over the covers go with her. Plus when I get up to use the bathroom, I flip the covers towards her, so when I get back in and pull them back to me it always wakes her up. not sure how to get around it. but time will tell. we have been married for 49 years, so we fill find a way.

      @franceengeorge6075 Před 2 lety

      My husband goes to sleep in a flat position long before I go to sleep - I stay awake with my side up quite a bit (45-ish deg+). If you have a big enough top sheet and comforter it isn't a problem. I bought a "palatial king" (120 x 120) comforter and it is so big there is plenty for there to be enough to not have it disturb his covers. For the same effect, I buy two sets of Twin XL sheets and sew the to top sheets together in the middle, making a very large top sheet that goes to the floor on both sides! I originally did that because I wanted percale sheets and couldn't find split king sets in percale, but could find Twin XL. It has worked wonders. When making the bed I put the tops up at least 45 deg+ and the foot up some too. I fiddle around a bunch to get the two side in the middle tucked under and then lower the beds. They become nice and tight and wrinkle free! Making these beds is a bit more difficult than making a regular bed that's in the middle of the room - but worth it.

    • @JS-es5ep
      @JS-es5ep Před 2 lety

      @@franceengeorge6075 I got all excited when you said "palatial king", thinking I could find a 120 x 120 mattress. :) But, I see that you mean the comforter is palatial. But while researching, I did find that there are Texas Kings, Wyoming Kings and Alaska king mattresses (all bigger than a standard King ... and California king is not as wide as a regular king, so not interested in that). That being said, it'd probably be a pain to get bedding for those very big oversized mattresses...the l largest being 108x108.
      But thanks for the tip about the top sheets. My question is a year old. I have since purchased the adjustable bases. But I'm still using my regular king mattresses (the bases are synced). So, eventually I will buy the 2 mattresses, and I'll probably do as you suggest.
