My Grandfather was a foreman for Capitol aggregates and ran a drag line that helped dredge that area of lady bird lake. So cool to see a story about that history of Austin. Thanks KUT.
Calling it Snake Island to discourage unnecessary visitors is okay. It would probably be more effective (and accurate) to talk about the lead and other heavy metal contamination that is soaked through all the soil on that island due to its location downstream & downwind of the old Holly Street Power Plant.
