Devil's River - The Most Beautiful in the State of Texas.

- The Devil's River, fed by numerous springs, is clear and cool as it flows through the eastern edge of the west Texas desert region. This is a great area for explorers and nature lovers. You can spend the day fishing, hiking (off-trail hiking allowed) , swimming, or going for casual kayaking along the park boundary between Finegan Springs and Dolan Falls. More adventurous folks can head upstream for a more challenging kayak journey (permit required).

I grew up in Texas and spent weeks camping in the summer along pristine waters. I hope these beautiful waters are preserved for many generations to come.
I did too. Sometimes we would both with a tent and just counted tons of falling stars laying on old army cots listening to the coyotes. Great memories
Are you still in Texas? We’re do you reside? Just curious on how people move on in life…life is beautiful
A lot of these rivers barely have any water at this point. We have a property in Medina TX and it is barren.
@@adrianc6534 Don't worry, the rains will come eventually!
@@trevorjameson3213 yep, droughts happen about every 10 years since I’ve been alive here Texas. Ya’ll keep the Llano and Medina on hush hush.
Indeed. This is a beautiful river and park.
This is where the TX Hill Country, the South Texas Brush Country, and the Chihuahuan Desert all intersect.
james bendele - a fellow geography fan; well done! as a geography nerd, my best guess is the chihuahuan desert would be across the rio grande, into mexico a few miles.
@@z-z-z-z This desert goes from Del Rio throughout most of New Mexico and south through Mexico covering parts of Chihuahua, Coahuila, and a little of Tamaulipas. Big Bend National Park, the Davis Mountains, Guadalupe Mountain National Park, Carlsbad Caverns, and the weird UFO town of Roswell are in this desert.
@@jamesbendele9818 - i am aware of where the chihuahuan desert is; i have looked at countless maps of it, over the years. my comment was where the desert was in relation to del rio. del rio is technically in the south texas brush country, but extremely close to the chihuahuan desert and the hill country as you mentioned.
How on earth have I missed this place?! I grew up near Kerrville, and was a HUGE river rat. My buddies and I used to get my dad's maps (he was in the oil business), and find all the back dirt roads that led to interesting, beautiful and fun swimming spots that haven't been over run by tourists OR locals. We spent endless summer days road tripping to the Llano River up towards Mason (found a GREAT cliff diving spot!), or the Frio, or of course the Guadalupe... Any number of places, going a couple hundred miles or more.
And yet, I don't recall, admittedly in my older age, the spot in THIS video!
Wow, you listed some of my favorite rivers. My Dad too with the paper maps. I was so excited by this video, and the fact I have been down around Del Rio and had no idea of this place. I'll see you on the Frio, I have a powerful need to do some swimming!
After a good rain, the Llano river is awesome!
Devil's River is the purest water in all the state of Texas. When I was there a ranger alerted me to the fact a cougar had recently made a kill near the river and trail. It had covered the remains over with debris. Another hiker had spotted the cover up. Had me on high alert as I was hiking. The water was absolutely perfect. Turquois in color. I captured many a good photos during my trip of the area. Camping was fantastic. The camp sites are like a mile apart, so no one bothers you. It was hard to go to sleep at night for the star gazing was out of this world!
WOW!
So can we camp here¿. It looks like a serial killer might just sneak up on you AND they said it was a cougar. Idk??. Scarry nobody would find us
@@elisaramirez8668 Yes you can camp there, it's good. That area is so incredibly remote, there's nothing to worry about. Except for rattlesnakes. Now that is a valid concern and you have to watch your step.
That's okay, I'm used to cougars coming after me, I don't mind, especially of she's a good ole... Texas girl.
Just kidding 🤠
Stunning place, nothing can beat spending a night under the stars !
Beautiful and thirst quenching. No need for mineral supplements here. And that gorgeous light aqua color - paradise in a parched land!
I'm sure you could drink that water coming straight out of the spring he shows in the video. I mean, when we were kids, we would drink out of the creek. Nothing bad happened.
A friend and I floated the Devil’s from a place called Baker’s Crossing, further up Hwy 277. It was 3 day float of the best small mouth bass fishing I’ve seen. My thumb was raw after the first day and had to learn how to take the hook out left handed by noon the next. If you think what you just saw was impressive, there’s much more to see. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Please tell how much more there is to see.
@@karkule5919 it’s been a few years, but there are several caves, places to get out and swim and a few shoots in the shallow water for a little fun.
Dude you gotta tell me how to find this spot..lol
How was the flow rate ? Did it get shallow to the point where you had to drag ?
Did it get shallow to the point where you had to drag ?
I lived in Texas for 2yrs and found it has some of the most beautiful rivers!!...
👀i,m like what tha what what lol soooooooo beautifull
Not anymore. Drought is killing rivers like this now.
@@adrianc6534 The rivers will be back. Every drought here is followed by floods. The worst drought I remember was in the mid 1950's, but in 1960 it ended, followed by several years of flooding rains.
@@trevorjameson3213
He's just saying that to keep people away, kinda like naming it "The devil's river". 😆
In 1977, I pulled off the asphalt road and cooled off in the Devils River, on a road trip from San Diego, CA to the Rio Grande Valley. This part of Texas is beautiful.
This is so beautiful omg I just wanna go sit on the side of the river. And be left alone 😎
I was thinking the same thing, get disconnected from Society.
i know im randomly asking but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Kevin Leonardo instablaster ;)
The Devil has nothing to do with that river....beautiful place
It’s the devils river. It’s literally the name of the river.
I call it God’s river. The devil is not a creator! 😇
@@czap1465 i like that mentality
Yeah..
go their @ night see if its still gods river lol
I'd like to float that river some day. Very beautiful place.
Be in good tip top shape if your going to kayak that river in summer . Bring lots of water .
Think about all the Indians and cowboys passed through there in 1800’s. Would love to hear those stories
Yea I can see it trashed out with plastic everywhere!
This is Texas, no stories, just battle cries.
As a native Texan I promise you I think about that all the time, so many ghosts!
@@jamesphillips5868 that’s just dumb statement.
@@kelleymcbride4633 would be nice to just listen to them , ❤️
Texas!!!!
GOD made so many awesome places.
Amen
I agree
God is not real
Nature made then, not a God.
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 I’m not saying he did or didn’t, but how do you “know”? I love how most people just think their opinions are facts. . .
Usually non Texans that travel through the entire length of Texas complain about the arduous boring flat landscape that extends for miles and miles . You just have to venture out of the well traveled highway to find these beautiful spots .
Texas is the most beautiful state I have ever traveled to. I'm from up in the North East, the White Mountains of NH. But Texas has my heart. Nicest people I ever met were down there as well. Last time I went was San Antonio in Feb, the friends I was visiting were cold " Its freezing, better wear a jacket!".
Lol. I was in paradise! Walking around on a t- shirt. Amazing.
Back home here we have 2 feet of snow and cant get our cars to start.

Super beautiful place.. the people and history with that river is long and interesting I'd bet
Looks beautiful!
Did the 3 day trip solo in 2004, was an amazing experience! Was on high alert for who knows what, it’s spectacular.
So beautiful. Thanks for sharing; subbed. I lived in Arizona just out of college (in Maine!) And miss the sunshine and culture of the southwest. My dad grew up in El Paso and Gillespie County and spoke of the river near Del Rio.
Sadly growing up in Del Rio, I've never been there, but now I must make it my mission to see this beautiful place😮
Is a paradise!!! Plain Gorgeous
That is so beautiful river. Thank
OMG! Sooooo beautiful! I hope to make it someday! I thought the Hill Country springs were beautiful......this takes the cake!
Great video 👍👍 I live 500 miles away in East Texas, and I don’t see myself driving that far anytime soon, but I’d definitely love to make it there someday. Thank you for showing us this area of Earth 👍👍❤️
I've always loved the water carved limestone cascades like at Mc Kinney Falls and the upper part of Bull Creek park but, Devil's River looks spectacular.
I won't be able to do the really strenuous hikes I used to do so thank you for taking us down there. And great adventure for you and your son.
Wicked beautiful. Thanks from Massachusetts
Breath Takingly Beautiful 😍
Fantastic and so beautiful, off the beaten path and thank you for sharing. The best part was the "Wooo hooo !! " on the rapids. I was right there in my mind ... so fun. 😂
😍 MARAVILLOSO !!!!!
Very beautiful...I’m now planning on going here after watching this for the 2nd time today 💙
Have fun!
That is a beautiful river. I floated it about 40 years ago. We put in off of 163 and floated down to the lake. It took 5 days and 4 nights. Had to portage at Dolan Falls and one other, very narrow spot. The first day we had to drag our canoes through some shallow spots, but after that it was fine. We slept on the river bank, below the high water mark.
What a beautiful river .
Thanks for sharing. So many places to see in Texas.
I’ve lived in this diverse state since Jan 1981, living in New Braunfels & working out of Seguin as a Driver running west to Ca & the La basin & east to deliver the perimeter of Fla, I’ve seen quite a bit of country thus far. But nothing as quiet & serene as west Tx & its rivers, I don’t swim because of deformed feet but you Sir make it easy to “see” what I can’t from the Hwy !! I thank you for posting these master pieces
Wow I dint know about this river its amazing.
I could almost feel my body immersed in that cool, spring water! Yeow!
That's really awesome. You did a great job.
Thanks for sharing. Looks great.
Thank you for Devils river...

Amazing 😍 is beautiful in there
That’s beautiful! It’s out in the middle of nowhere. That’s probably why it’s so pristine.
As a new resident of Texas I'm always interested in discovery all the beauty this state has to offer. So glad I found your channel and looking forward to more discoveries.
If you're a commiefornian you do not deserve this state's greatness. I speak for all Texans. Please leave.

Gosh! Such a beautiful place. I live in East Tennessee but I love Texas in Big Bend area and of course I've hiked the McKittrick Canyon Trail also. Thank you for sharing this. I'll have to come back out to Texas and check this out.
Great. I'm glad I gave you a reason to come back. I love East Tennessee! I've done a lot of hiking there.
Awesome, not everything is big in Texas but also The most beautiful 😍. I live in Southeast of Texas, and as a Travel Vlogger I love Texas forever 💖
The water looks so clear and clean!
That river is known as the most pristine river with the cleanest water in the entire Southwest.
Fantastic park, amazing share, nice lake, great upload.
Have a wonderful day to you.
Thank you. Im a river rat. Been bed ridden for 7 months due to my second love, motorcycles. This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you. Oh yea im a 3 gen texan.
Thanks for visiting. I'm so sorry to hear that. I can only imagine how difficult your situation must be. I hope that you're back in the saddle again soon. Since you're a river rat, I've got a video coming out tomorrow morning that I think you'll enjoy.
I’m so sorry that you’re injured. I too love motorcycles and rivers and water. Add camping and hiking, too. I hope you fully recover and can get back out there. Take care.
So beautiful
Wow... !!! My best friend, It's always great. We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks
Texas has many places as beautiful
Nice! We have some rivers here in NC, but this one has a unique and magnificent Tex look. I must visit and explore!
Come on and explore it! Just not in July or August, it's brutally hot then. Best time is October through December, and into January. Nice, cool, and dry.
So beautiful.
Amazing
Wow amazing please keep it clean an beautiful

Devil’s river is definitely on my list, this video helped it move closer to the top. Nicely done :)
considering your name, I'd say this should be at the very top. Best fishing trip Ive ever been on.
@@jsull2891 well ‘tis the season for planning the upcoming year’s trips!
Never been on the Devil's river before. But someday I do intend to check it out. I know I'd love it!
That is beautiful. You mentioned camping ? I'll Google it.
Thank you for sharing this
Beautiful
I was thrilled to see your video. As a kid in the early 50’s, I fished, swan and camped this river with my dad. We would hike from the highway bridge downriver to our fishing spot and fish all weekend, sleeping under the stars. What a wonderful place. Thank you for bringing back some fond memories for me. 😎
Good job 😮😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The river water looks like a tropical beach! Crazy. I only ever go to New Braunfels 😞
Awesome 👍😃🇺🇲
Beautiful wishing I was there😊
THANKS -- Happy New Year!
Just came across this video. I grew up in Texas and never knew about the Devil’s River area. Fantastic video and fantastic channel. Subbed!
