Lots of other small changes. Like how naval myth units are detached from minor gods now, and unlock for everyone as you age up (only exception seems to be Oceanus's Servant cuz they're in the classical age). How the Egyptian major gods give their monuments different effects. That building a Wonder powers up your god powers and makes it easier to re-use them, helping you with that final push for end-game. A bunch of techs and god powers got updated too, like how Loki's tech Eyes in the Forest now gives you some lingering line of sight whenever one of your units passes trees or animals, or how Heimdall's Undermine and Sobek's Locust Swarm now travel in a line that you direct. Overall I'm loving the game, aside from the occasional crashes and pathfinding issues.
My only real gripe is the voice acting in the campaign... most of the voice acting from the first 5 scenarios feels so flat and dull. Krios has no personality, Arkantos's snark and arrogance are gone, Agamemnon sounds bored with himself; Ajax is the only one who sounds fine imo. And not just in the cutscenes, but the voice lines that play as the narrative in the scenarios sounds bad too. All the lines from the first mission about "Black sails!" have no urgency, no gravitas. I hope these aren't the final voice lines (I fear they are)

    • @Baddaby
      @Baddaby Před měsícem +3

Changing the voice acting is such a dumb decision for a remake, as it was for AOE 2 DE
The main reason a remake gets any traction at all is nostalgia and changing the voices totally breaks that sentiment
It's the same reasoning as why you shouls not change the "Skipas, Metalef" etc.

    1. bring back the OG voices for campaign heroes
    2. improve the pathfinding of certain units
    3. add to human units the visual minor god given tech upgrades as well ( sword of deimos, sarrissa, axe of vengeance, apedemak's tusks etc ) for more in depth visual enhancement
    4. make the AI have more personalities like in EE and be even more dynamic and stronger ( current AI attacker is good but it can be improved )
    5. add maybe lower population cost for human ordinary soldiers than 2/3 and give us the ability to select more than 100 troops and make us choose formations like in AOE 4 or Total War games where you can drag them and select how long or short the unit line can be

I'm mixed about the Norse units. Not sure the Ulfsark needed to turn into "Berserk", and didn't feel like there needed to be a new spearman unit when the Ulfsark already filled the anti-cav role. That being said, I kind of like there's female Ulfsarks, and those Frost Giants look so much better -- much leaner, but way meaner.

@@VITAS874 Shield maidens are historically accurate and even if not, then heavily depicted in myths which is the aim of this game. I would have preferred female warriors to be named shield maidens, but I understand why they would not change a unit's name sorely based off their sex. That only serves to confuse the player.
The alternative is to add a shield maiden as its own unit, and when turning female gatherers into military units, they become shield maidens instead of berserks, but then we have a balance issue at hand, as they would be 2 different units based on the sex of the gatherer. But maybe that's something worth looking into. Until then, having female berserks seems fine to me.

What calls my attention is that the Units that were added in the Chinese DLC are now missing which nerfs some of the factions quite badly
The Greeks lose Hippocrates, which means that healing wounded troops would be more difficult to do now and is now almost Impossible to the Infantry Units of Poseidon (which have no access to Athena and Apollo and thus, no access to Restoration or Temple of Healing). Of course this is partially compesated by the fact that Restoration can now be casted more than once (but that will cost extra per use as well as having the units positioned correctly to benefit from the God Power) and Thracian Horses now regenerates hitpoints of Calvary Units when they attack (but that's the thing, it only affects Calvary and, since we don't have an actual Calvary Archer with the Greeks (you can access the Centaur with Poseidon. But that unit does not count for Thracian Horses since it's a Myth Unit and not always you want to advance with Hermes), then we actually have no Anti-Infantry Unit that benefits of this tech. And that's not to mention you don't always want to advance with Dionysius). So. Poseidon is recieving a major nerf to its durability by losing Hippocrates that can only be trully compesated by either giving the Greeks a Calvary Archer or by moving the Minor Gods around so they give Apollo for Poseidon (and with that, giving us the Temple of Healing) and Aphrodite to Zeus
The Egyptians lose the Khopesh Warrior and, with this loss, the Civilization, once again, loses its Ability to actually raid opponent camps in Classical Age since the best option after it (the Camel Rider) is locked behind Heroic Age
The Norse lose the Bogsveigir which could've be a major issue since if they didn't give us the Godi since, otherwise, we would be having a lot of Trouble dealing with Flying Units (specially the Styphalan Birds and the Phoenixes)

Having God powers with cooldown, being able to rebuild the Titan, and have the Titan able to walk through water? That's awesome! Not having those things were almost the only complaints I had about the original game.
It was a bit funny that even back then, the developers realized that having the god powers to be only one time deals was too limiting, so... for the Atlanteans, they gave to some of their powers additional charges. But only to Atlanteans, they didn't add the to the original factions.
And even back then, I was like - did they not hear about cooldowns? I mean, some powers were so pathetic, they barely did anything, so it would be in no way overpowered to use them repeatedly.

What I like most about the new Norse units is that with the Godi as a ranged anti-myth unit, there would be no need for bogsveigir to return. Norse are back to being the civ with no archers, having to rely on throwing axes and ballistae as their ranged options. That would also imply that physicians, onagers and khopesh won't be coming back.
