Every year, life in a few of Scotland's prisons gets particularly tense as its annual prison hairdressing competition gets underway. For most of the entrants, winning first place is the ultimate goal, but for Francis, the current champion, who’s soon to be released, the competition is a glimpse at a life of freedom and responsibility. For some of his fellow entrants, the competition might be the only glimpse they get.

This is a good way to rehabilitate prisoners and prepare people for the outside world by having them learn a trade. And having a haircut is so simple but so humanising. This is a step towards what prisons should be. Class from Scotland.

People are in there for stealing when their families had nothing due to abuse. Your small mind will only get you so far in this world. Yes there are people who don't deserve freedom. However, our system ignores the people trying to rehabilitate their life. And guess what. No one helps and they re-offend because they believe there is no other way. People are forced to steal to eat after being in prison as nowhere wants to hire you.
I know certain situations happen etc but what a sad state of affairs to see grown men living like that
