cool with you mv is absolutely amazing. the mv follows the eros(cupid)-psyche-aphrodite story, except it's gender-swapped and i am obsessed. love the whole ep. newjeans are my absolute fav group.

ETA turns out to be a banger. It slaps.
First thing first, interracial love depicted in a kpop music video between a Black and an Asian person, I am here for it. I remember them doing the same in "Hype Boy" with Minji and her love interest, I love how NWJNS actually cares for diversity in the kpop industry at times. ! Also, it seems that “Cool With You” portrays the Roman/Greek mythological love story of “Cupid and Psyche” but instead of Cupid being a "he" they made him a "she" (played by Hoyeon). Cupid and Psyche is a story found in an ancient Roman novel called "Metamorphoses" by Apuleius (he was a Roman citizen and a latin-language writer). His most widely known work is his Latin based novel “Metamorphoses.” However, even though Apuleius wrote the story, I read that this same story can be found in many ancient Greek works of art, indicating that the story was FIRST told in Ancient Greece rather than Ancient Rome. I don't know I am not a historical researcher lol but anyways... the main takeaway from the story of Cupid (also known as Eros, a Greek name for Cupid) and Psyche is that Cupid (a god) fell in love with a mortal who he found to be the most beautiful woman ever. Not to mention, Psyche's beauty even rivaled with Cupid’s mother, Aphrodite’s beauty. It was said that Psyche’s beauty caused many men from many lands to travel just to be graced by the looks of her beauty. Aphrodite (also known as Venus which is her Roman name) is the “ Greek goddess of love and beauty” as we know in Greek Mythology. Therefore, she was both jealous and furious that a “mortal woman was the subject of the admiration of so many men.” Aphrodite then took it upon herself to tell Eros (Cupid) to “descend to the world of mortals and poison men’s souls so that they no longer desire Psyche.” Eros went to do as he was told however before he realized it, also found himself falling in love with Psyche’s beauty and failed to carry out his mother’s orders which led to Cupid actually being with Psyche. The whole story is actually really good if you ever decide to look into it and does have a happy ending! Moreover, the MV depicted some of this story along with some CHANGES and twists. Furthermore, you can see when Hoyeon looked at people and made them fall in love (2:30), you saw that she indeed was Cupid. Also, the painting all of them were looking at symbolizes the story of “Cupid and Psyche” which is an oil painting by François-Édouard Picot (3:58). It depicts the part of the tale when Cupid would leave Psyche’s bed-side before she woke up every morning as he would only visit her at night. That is also the same scene we saw Hoyeon in at (5:50). Now, at the end of Side A, Hoyeon (Cupid) goes outside naked looking up into the night sky assuringly asking to be granted her wish as a mortal that way she could live her life with Psyche as a mortal. Fast forward, in the b-side they are together until mystery man, Tony Leung (who appears to be Aphrodite/Venus) in the end. He turns Cupid (Hoyeon) back into Cupid again and making Psyche forget all the time they had shared together which is why he walks past her in the street and smiles at another woman. NWJNS MV has more of a darker turn than the original story which I like because they decided to still take their own route of things. But just know, Cupid actually DOES end up with Psyche in the very tale's end.
I bet they didn't even read your comment cuz they didn't even bother trying to understand what Cool With You MV was about lol. I have no idea why they have so many subscribers when they are just clueless and superficial in reacting to MV

its a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid
(hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony).
this is the painting of love and psyche they were
looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her
guardian angels i believe, because they are the
only ones that can see her. hoyeon is cupid, her
job is making people fall in love. but she fel in
love with a human- micol. and she abandons her
job and just follows him around hopelessly. he
can't see her, no humans can see her. (when she
looks at the mirror, she has no reflection). at the
end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in
the rain and looks up at sky, it symbolizes her
asking to become human, her own way of
striking herself with cupid's arrow.
side b picks off where side a ends, she is now
human and we can see that because yes her
clothes are different, and people can now see
her- micol can see her. they start falling in love
throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/
aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoyeon into
a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status
meaning micol can't see her and he forgets
about the time they shared. ultimately, tony
made him fall in love with someone else (that
girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job
as cupid
its such a heartbreakingly beautiful music video,
with a deep meaning and a retelling of
mythology. everyone wants love and deserves
love, whether they are human or otherworldly
deity/being❤
Technically this is not the story of cupid and psyche, but a new story featuring the characters. The Greek story is very different from what happens in the mv.
In the MV only slightly changed but still the story of Cupid and Pysche
Don't even bother trying to comment and explain the story of Cool With You because they didn't even try to understand what the MV was about, they just went off topic and then immediately watched ETA. Their reaction of ETA is that Eva is a SHAPESHIFTER LOL, like what the hell are they talking about? Both of them are so clueless especially Ryan lol, dude is dumb as a doorknob.

Personally like Cool with you a lot but not ETA which I dun understand why they make that song ( cos its less fit their image / song that from them, its more like "KPOP" song ). And now I see, cos some might prefer a simple dance song without complicated storyline. 😂

I think they put eta on this album bcs koreans like u said it is close to original kpop sound and koreans prefer those music l see many koreans don't like super shy or cool with u cuz song is not fast dancing song they used to hear they mostly like eta the most

i think it fits perfectly w newjeans, like said before they are a group who expirement and want to try new sounds and styles, eta is just one of the very few songs that give a new sound to their name. eta also goes very well w their storyline! im not gonna say much bc i wont be able to put everything down here, but u can check out KPOP Novice's theory on the mv. newjeans ever since ditto have represented that they are "friends" with the main charecters in their mv's, but they were actually never friends or even there with them from the beginning. newjeans is just a kpop girl group that give comfort and some sort of essance to other people, which is what we see with eva in eta and ban heesoo in ditto. they all connect to one another, newjeans giving support and understanding to the girls during their hard times, all of this reflecting to the irl fans. i got confused w what the eta mv was at first too but once u check out the theory video it will make a lot more sense 😭
yup exactly ETA and Super Shy was made for tiktokers and people like Ryan and Tiana who just enjoy a simple dance track cuz they didn't even try to understand what "Cool With You" was about.
