The MV's follow the tale of Cupid and Psyche, as shown in the painting. Cupid (Hoyeon) is a god who makes people fall in love with a glance, but is invisible to humans. The painting is the first time Cupid ever sees "herself" as she has no reflection. This causes her to fall in love with the next person she looks at - the man at the painting (Psyche). However, it's not until Cupid renounces her god-status in the rain that Psyche realises his love, as it is the first time he is able to see her. Tony portrays Venus - the parent of Cupid. Venus is mad at Cupid for falling in love with a human, thus punishing her by making Psyche forget Cupid and fall in love with someone else. NewJeans represent the Muses, who sang at Cupid and Psyche's wedding.
The cool part is Hesso from “Ditto” is much like a reflection of Boy (human with strong determination and morality) from “Cool with you”. From “Ditto” side A Hesso also walked into the Rain Alone to me it represented Hesso’s walk into her adulthood transformation into maturity which it validated in Side “B” (deer walked away represented maturity with image of Hesso walked with perhaps her husband, left Hesso’s alone without continued friend’s help)
I'm super confused though, why would Venus be a man? Venus is THE female goddes. She's the woman of women. I guess it's super symbolic so everything is whatever? Since Cupid is usually male as well.
@@nastasiacr3676 The roles are reversed in the MV. In the mythology, Cupid is male and Venus + Psyche are female.

@@nastasiacr3676all genders are flipped, as alskah said, but also greek gods were able to take any form they preferred. They were not tied to one specific physical form or rules like mortals. Many deities of many cultures were similar, per example Loki who once turned into a female horse and even gave birth in that form. So... yeah 😅
"Why the fuck is Tony Leung in this video" - that was my reaction too, HYBE apparently has the budget to feature A-list actors for just a few seconds for no apparent reason. And i desperately want a full version of Get Up, everyone and their mother has been releasing their own extended versions.

@@nickbuHis old translator when he was in Korea was Min Heejin's friend, Min heejin contacted this translator to ask if Tony could consider appearing in the MV. After reading the script, Tony agreed to star in this MV for free as a gift to his fans in Korea.

Tony Leung appeared for free by the way. It was revealed that Min Hee Jin, who produced the music video, personally arranged Tony Leung’s casting. She delivered the music video script to Tony Leung through an acquaintance. After going through the script and checking the music video’s story, Tony Leung agreed to take on the charismatic role despite its shortness-and he offered to do it with no pay. He even went as far as showing how passionate and professional he was in preparing for his brief appearance in the music video where he even suggested ideas for his character. Tony Leung is truly a legendary actor!

Actually, Wooseok Shin, the director of this MV who directed the MVs of Ditto, ETA, and OMG as well, proposed casting to Tony Leung with saying that he expected working with Tony for a long time since he started his career more than 10 years ago.
Fun fact, Tony Leung appeared for free for his Korean fans.
So as far as I know the painting depicts the forbidden love between Cupid and Psyche, which is what we actually see happening in the music video. The protagonist is actually supposed to be extended for Cupid and falls in love with the guy. But but she can't be seen by him, so NewJeans grants her the wish of finally becoming human and being tangible. But ultimately things go awry and that guy makes him forget that she existed and uses some sort of power to make him in another woman be attracted to each other.

apparently tony asked hybe if he could hear the song, he liked it, said that if they could shoot on location where he was a the time, he would do it. he did all the character research himself and brought his own costume pieces and wig to set with him. it's crazy that they got him to be in this video.

The use of Tony reminds me of the use of the deer in Ditto. It brought Heesoo to face the reality that she was alone. No matter who Tony is supposed to be, he also brings reality to Cupid. She has to face the fact that she will always be a goddess, only an inspiration for the artist. His love for her was more artistically inspired than real love, and he will move on.
This is an adaptation of the story Eros(Cupid) and Psyche from mythology. New Jean's represented the muses that were guides sent to inspire the human race in the arts and sciences. The actress was Eros that fell in love with Psyche and became their muse. Tony represented Aphrodite who was the parent of Eros and came down to remind Eros of their place. This was beautifully done!
The unique part is Tony from “Cool with you” much like similar role of “deer” from “Ditto”. Here tony walked away (punishment) Cupid from the boy. In “ditto” deer (maturity, long-lasting, marriage) walked in judgment with her husband take care of Hesso.
So she's cupid and she wasn't supposed to fall in love with the guy, she was supposed to continue her job of making people fall in love. When she gets naked under the rain it's like she leaves behind her responsabilities as cupid and allows herself to be "human".
And what i've read and what makes the most sense to me is that Tony Leung is some kind of god or another cupid avobe her (he has more power clearly), and newjeans are his muses and have been following her around to tell Tony about the things she has been doing wrong, like falling in love. So yeah he wipes the guy's memory to punish her or smth.
yeah so basically, tony portrays cupid's mother, venus. in the original story, venus was jealous of psyche (which is who the boyfriend plays) and ordered cupid to make her fall in love with someone unworthy but fell in love with psyche himself. the muses are deities that basically inspire like, creativity, artistry and the sciences and stuff (which im pretty certain are actually from greek mythology, hence why ive been debating whether the MV story is actually based off the roman story of cupid and psyche, or the greek story of eros and psyche) so with that information about the muses, they werent informing venus (tony) really.
Their vocals and the way the instrumental combines with their voice sound so ethereal and it matches the angelic vibe sm
i'm still blown away by the fact that that they got tony leung in the mv. as others have pointed out, its meant to be eros and psyche with tony being zeus and taking psyche's love away from eros and giving it to someone else. and then newjeans are some of the muses. so i imagine the part at. the end with 'get up' playing is absolutely eros reminiscing about psyche and trying to move on without truly wanting to. meanwhile 'get up' are her thoughts. 'meet me back in 5 if i matter to you' hits so hard with hoyeon's acting after all this heartbreak.
Tony Leung is Aphrodite or Venus. Cupid and Psyche have been gender swapped. So has Venus.

I wonder if Tony is supposed to portray Zeus, king of the gods, who realises that Hoyeon’s iteration of Eros/Cupid is not doing her job correctly.
Personally, I think it makes more sense for Tony to be a portrayal of Aphrodite. Firstly, it seems the main characters are gender swapped from their mythological counterparts, so it would make sense for Aphrodite to also be played by a man. Second, in the story of Eros and Psyche, Aphrodite is very jealous and angry at Psyche for her beauty that rivaled even hers. And Zeus is the one who gave her immortality in the first place because of her devotion to Eros, so I think it's unlikely he's meant to represent Zeus.
THIS IS THE DIALOGUE I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! I knew this channel would serve up the threads to better piece together this intricate and mythological storytelling.

everyone keeps saying this story is based off the story of cupid and psyche in roman mythology, which fair enough. but ive been debating because theres the belief that newjeans plays the muses but the muses were of greek mythology. its easy to get mixed up between greek and roman mythology because theyre almost practically mirror reflections of each other but since the muses are greek, i think this is based off the greek story of eros and psyche. its pretty much the same story that everyone here has said so i wont relay it. the muses were pretty much deities that inspired creativity, artistry and the sciences. in the mv we see that psyche is an artist right. so theyve pretty much influenced their story, i think weve all got that they had an influence. another thing to note, is how in 'get up' eros/cupid looks at the muses (newjeans) with like a bit of like, distaste or something of the like. i saw a comment mentioning how psyche, as an artist, just used cupid as his muse and inspiration for his painting and he didnt actually love her. with what we know about the muses job in mythology, its slightly their fault in a way, hence why cupid/eros looks at them that way.

@@Jaundy The Korean pronunciation is also the correct one here, that's how it's pronounced in any language when talking about the goddess, it comes from the Greek. The pronunciation "sy-kee" comes from Latin (where it came from Greek), and refers to the mind or soul, not the goddess in the panting.

PD uses they/them pronouns. I think PD is mostly a video producer, but I think they do mostly private work and not necessarily public music videos or anything like that.
His girlfriend adresses PD with he/him pronouns most of the time so both he and they are fine.
Yes, they're a video producer and there are actually several short films they've directed right here on this channel. If you sort by most viewed you'll find the first part of '1 in 10,000' which they've written and directed themselves.
So unfortunate that the recording sound of the songs is still not fixed. It's sounds so dull with no bass. You can really hear the difference when you watch the original ‘Cool With You' MV in comparison
