It's nice to see that at least back then, people really did win these contests. So many of them were bs just to get your info to spam your mailbox. I'm glad this was legit, and you have this awesome story to tell the rest of your life. Congrats!
This is such a cool story, even though I;d watched it before, still gives me joy listening to it! Thank You for sharing it, hope You're still having that guitar! \m/
Dude, this video is awesome. For one you still have the guitar, 2. you are a real guitar player and fan, and C. just guessing but the guitar may be top of the line for dime style. Pretty cool pretty cool.
i remember that contest and had every korn magazine and Dean Guitars just returned and was hunting for artist so i purchased a avalanche 7 string and sent them a a song from my band and pics of me with guitar never got answer but i still a a avalanche 7 in my arsenal its my favorite guitar
This shit made my day...I don't know why.....well I mean...I guess it's obvious why even though it doesn't "feel" like it is. Basically.....Dime was a great dude.....every fudgeking piece of footage you can find of him when he's only turned up to 10/10 instead of 37/10......he is nothing less than a genuine "dude".....always right on the verge of laughing or making a humourous statement, or summoning his alter ego "Getcha'self a pull Paul"....just go watch all the footage of him slumming it....standing around an armpit guitar store playing, talking, and sincerely trying to hang with the plebs. I like to think that if he were here today, he'd have shown us all over these lost years without him just how cool he really was. Shit was still so crazy and "top of the world" back when he passed that we never got to watch him settle down and do what the fuck ever he would have wanted to do with his time. When people ask that stupid fudgeking question "If you could have dinner with any three people that ever lived..who would they be?" My answer is: 1.Dime 2.Nikola Tesla 3. Mark Twain(optional sub in: Hunter S. Thompson)
Awesome story. So Jealous. I had a chance to buy that EXACT model, black n everything, about 6 yrs ago. Dude wanted like $450 for it, but hold on...reason I decided against it, was he had broken the headstock in half. I still wish I had gotten it from him, even with it broke and repaired. It was something I had to trust him on as far as it played fine etc cuz He had to ship it. It was just too much of a risk, if i could have tried it out in person and it was ok, I would have prob got it. it did have slight other damage to it too, but these are so rare, Id kill to have a fucked up one, lol. If he woulda done like $300,maybe $350 I prob woulda got it. The damage looked kinda severe, like it was a bad crack, so I just passed. My only other sorta relatable story is when I was like 12 yrs old, I used to collect baseball, sports cards. And I had gotten a SUPER SUPER RARE Autographed by like Mickey Mantle Upper Deck card in like 1990 in a pack of cards as a promo/ contest.. You could obviously keep the card, or they had this contest sorta thing where they said on the package if you sent the card in, they would send you the entire yrs like 500 card set with the Mantle sent back with it. Issue was you had to send a baseball card in the mail to some address to a Corpo office and just HOPE with no talking on the phone or anything, that you'd actually get the set back and the autographed Mantle back. The set was worth a few hundred I think which was alot back then for a 12 yr old, and I got the card back to. So I risked it and sent it in and MADE SURE I put the right address etc. I NEVER got the shit returned ,meaning I lost the card and set and never was able to get it resolved. I was PISSED. That Mantle alone is worth a fortune, or atleast it was when i checked like 10-15 yrs ago, cuz he only signed like 3 cards, and kids in 1990 were buying baseball cards by the wheel barrel, so out of millions of cards, 3 were signed so they were worth a ton immediately. like 5x what the whole set was worth at the time, so I shoulda just held onto it. Was an article a yr later about that contest stating only 1 of the 3 were ever known to be found, or the other 2 that were werent reported to the Baseball Beckett mag that helped with the contest. Was complicated, lol. So the other 2 MIGHT still be inside unopened packs somewhere, as alot of older collectors at the time were buying cases of the cards and keeping em sealed and put em away. So that card would be worth a fortune now. I woulda sold it for beer $$ anyways a couple yrs later when I retired from racing motocross and baseball, and became a musician, lol.
