- The Pantera legend offers an intimate look at his riff and solo secrets in this heavy and often hilarious lesson, which originally accompanied the June 2006 issue of Guitar World.

Dime could have and would of, 99.999%, had a CZcams channel doing exactly this kind of thing for his fans and aspiring guitarists and musicians. CZcams came out the year we lost him to the nut job. I remember when streaming was just starting to become a thing in 02/03 and Dime was home, off tour, with friends and members of damage plan, answering fan questions...he literally picked up the phone, called the guitar company, and told them to repair his fans guitar, after that fan had submitted a question and told him his washburn was messed up. That's the kind of guy he was. He didnt have to do that at all. He did. And he did it right then and there. Incredible. Rest easy.
Dime was one of those guitarist that could do it all, killer rhythm but also insane lead, with oceans of feeling. It's extremely rare to have a rhythm genius that solos like a true guitar God.
Not that rare xD
That’s because he is a guitar god lol
Like Eddie!!! 🤘🏻🔥🎸🇺🇸
I'll miss Dime til the day I die.
@@Glamosapien his level.. yea it is
Wrote some of the most brutal heavy riffs of all time. Thank fuck we will always have his music. Absolute Legend.
Pisses me off we have to live in a world without Dimebag and Vinny. Both were glorious legends
You got that right brother 😢
RIP Dime. Taken from us for no reason whatsoever.
Gitcha’ pull… rest ez Dime
And he was just one everyone loved as a person not just as a guitarist.
Except for the fact that he lived in the mass shooting capitol of the world..
@@saddyfrownertonamerica
All the Legends die soon dime bag Jimi Hendrix and other Legends passed away too soon
This world will never see another man like this guy. He’s a one of a kind, that is also greatly missed.
The world we live in now would never allow it.
@@thisisbeyondajoke6748 that’s sadly very true 😢. Especially since he was such an amazing soul. You never hear anything from people saying they were mad or upset with him and if you do it’s never anything super crazy or serious, usually just complaining because he made them drink and party to hard with him 😆
Machine Head's been picking it up for him pretty good I've gotten pretty attached and been really since Burning Red, for me was on when "This Love" was on radio,
18 Years since his passing😢 ABSOLUTE LEGEND, AMEN!🎸🤘🏻😎🥃🍻
I cried smoked, and drank about 10 Blacktooth grins. Texas
Tell me about it. Cemetery Gates is still a bit emotional to listen to. Sure the hell was the next day.
Dime was your best friend, next door neighbor, somebody you loved, your favorite family member, when he talked it was like he was talking directly with you... and you never even met him. A special soul that graced the earth just from his existence. Gosh I miss him. Got a big ole tat of him on my arm.
Nobody will ever come close to this man’s talent, style, and finesse. Put a guitar in his hands and he becomes other fucking worldly
RIP Dime. Getcha pull!
I remember buying this issue with the lessons included . Takes me back to getting home from school and playing along to Pantera riffs. Rest in Peace brother.
I did the very same thing! Played all night until lights out…
Editing out “semi-gayidity” is sacrilege.
💯
It's not metal at all
Sounds fully gayidity 🤷♂️
I miss him.. What a force of nature he was.
In my opinion, there has never been on never will be a better Guitarist than The Legendary Dimebag Darrell Abbott. RE-SPECT 👊
We need more Dimebag for the spirit and the memories
I noticed yesterday that I, at age 40, outlived Dimebag. I've been going through a midlife existential crisis for awhile now...but Dime only got to 38. Who am I to freak out about dying eventually... probably 30+ years in the future...when my hero didn't even get to see 40? Did his hair even start to go grey like mine?
It's just humbling, ya know?
#perspective
#PanteraForever
I'm gonna go play guitar.
None of us are getting outta here alive brotha 🤘
I feel you, but if you feel like that now go and check out the Club 27...
@@jimmyjames7946 One day we are gonna die,....
... but not all the other days!!! ♠
Dude I'm in the same boat. It's unbelievable how fast time flies man
Yeah I was thinking the same. I'm 43
Stil in shock about the way we lost Dimebag Darrel R.I.P man you´ll be missed forever
Rest up Dime. Never gets easier. Spent most of the day in tears yesterday. Xakk is doing you proud. They all are. LORD DIME UNMATCHED
Getcha-goddamn-pull!!!!! Sorely, sorely missed still. R.I.P Dime.
18 Years Gone... Rest In Power Dime.
Unreal ain't it my daughter will be 18 this week Dime was stolen from us a week before her birthday it's a beautiful time of the year but also sad knowing he is gone but with us for ever thru his music
I met this man and his brother Vin Paul in Dayton Ohio hara arena way in the day. We went backstage and the brothers were the only ones to stick around and meet us, the fan's. They were so chill and laid back, really down to earth. I'll always remember mentioning Vin Paul shoe attire which were snake skin Eastlands. Can't remember what snake he said it was but they were awesome. Rip bro's
Miss you Dime... no one did it quite like you brother.
🪛 you guys for waiting so long to put this up, *but* , thank you for doing it.
im happy that there is still videos of him on youtube. sad that hes gone, but the vids like this one keeps him alive.
Thanks for posting this. RIP Darrell, you were a great man and one of the best metal musicians to ever walk a stage. Humble, happy and very selfless.
As much as I am excited to attend the Pantera *tribute* concert at ATT I just wish that it was Dime just to witness greatness in a musician and human being.
He’s so inspiring. I’ve been learning guitar for less than two months and Dime makes me want it bad!!! I’ll miss this guy forever. Great video ! Thank you for posting this!! I’m so glad that we got to have him in our reality. Dime changed the game for all guitarists. He’s STILL making us all better. What a legacy!!
He was always an encouragement to me for guitar playing to keep exploring my guitar playing ability, skill & creativity.
"Thanks Dimebag Darrel for sharing your skills on metal guitar & thank you & the band for Pantera & the awesome music & awesome times slam dancing & moshing along with the music."
Dime was a trooper!! You could tell he lived , breathed, and loved the guitar!! An amazing player and person. From what I've understood he loved to make people happy!! His heart was one of a kind!!! 😁✌️🤘🤘🤘
Dime is one of the people who make me want to pick up a guitar. His shit is some of the most fun to play
rip
Get out there, pick one up, and kick some ass brother!
@@JohnDoe-zx1ck did just that, restrung my razorback and ripped it up today
@@scottadams5858 I meant RIP but you probably know that, but yes rip it up for Dimebag please
He is truly missed
I wish you were still here Dime ROCK ON BROTHER!!!!!!
Our very own metal legend...one who touched the talented players with impressive style and the educated listeners with impressive output!
so glad Dime always had a video camera on him filming or bring filmed, otherwise we wouldn’t have these great memories to look back ok and reminisce .
Thank you for sharing!
Dime and Vinny two brothers two legends the best at what they loved "music" rip guys and thanks for the good times and memories.
These videos of Dime are gold!! We were all so robbed of his genius and unique personality 😢
Legends never die
Dimes guitar was truly a second vocalist in the band.
To be a fly on the wall in that room.
Saw him many times from the covers in clubs to the Arena's. One of a kind.
RIP DIME🤘🤘🤘
I think I come to watch this at least 3 times a year. Just to hear him play again at his house.
Man I remember getting this issue back in the day and watching this on my computer with headphones on with guitar in hand mesmerized
Rip my favourite guitarist ❤
Rip brother ty for sharing your awesomeness☮️🙏✨✨✨🕊️🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥
We lost dime before he even hit his prime and yes I know he was playing shows in the 80s when pantera was a glam band, and I got to see them 4x in the 90s, he had so much more to give to metal. Would give anything to see him once more
I don’t know squat about playing guitar, but I just love hearing Dime talk to me.
I loved his music, and I’ll always him.
There will NEVER be another like Dime!! R.I.P!!
I can only imagine how awesome his CZcams channel would of been man. He was already making videos before CZcams was a thing. It came out in 04 I think. He definitely would of been a music blogger and teacher. Reality really sucks sometimes.
jedes mal wenn ich DIME sehe könnt ich fast heulen. Ich bin mit Pantera aufgewachsen dürfte Sie 2 mal Live sehen und ich danke Gott dafür. R.I.P. Dime + Vinnie.
He is missed everyday!! Rip dime 🎸🤘
The best all time, forever DIMEBAG DARRELL! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
We get to see these vids again
One of the greatest ever.
Miss him 🙏 greatest guitarist 🎸🤘
Aww man, makes me want to listen to some Damage Plan. Love you Dime. Keep rockin'.
rip my g. man he'd be mind blown by the technology today. so many pedals so many different amp programs, iphone video for recording. the man the legend
Wow I was just thinking the same thing bro. Cheers
Can’t believe this man is gone ! We miss you
seeing him made me smile. this guy, alexi laiho, and the singer of angra, it feels like theyre still alive, because theryre still having an effect on people
This was great. I’ve seen it before and I appreciate you editing out the part about F#. We don’t need 2022 attacking Dime. He was just fine the way he was. 🙌🏻🎸🇺🇸🎸
Lmao I love that clip it’s hilarious 😭
You appreciate taking away someone's character and FOS to appease the soft and sensitive snowflakes... man that's why this world sucks now. Bunch of babies calling the shots because of their hurt feelings
Thank you for this post. R.I.P. Dime. that last part really I hits you right in the throat..
DIMEBAG DARRELL FOREVER
KING & CREATOR OF GROOVE METAL
PEOPLE ACROSS THE GLOBE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR HEALING MUSIC OF THIS MISERABLE LIFE ON EARTH
ALL HAIL TO DIMEBAG DARRELL FOREVER
👍🤘🥲🫂😢🫂😭🙏🙌
amazing talent
The Damageplan stuff was really good. I remember at the time Dime and Vinnie taking a ton of grief over it. Basically starting from scratch, playing small clubs and having to shrug off fans who couldn't get over Pantera. I think in hindsight a lot of people have changed their minds. I just hope that when he went he knew that this community loved him so much that they'd mourn him almost 2 decades and counting
I liked Pantera. I liked Damageplan. I was a fan of Vinnie and Dime… period.
Damageplan was trash. They were hanging out with Drowning Pool too much. And I’m a devout Dimebag follower.
@@CasualT840 they had one album.
@@CasualT840 🙄 "trash"
@@CMFL77 correct.
I never met this man, but he helped me through my teenage years and continues to help me even though he is no longer walking this earth. Thanks, Dime! I owe you, brother! \m/
Greatest metal guitarist of all time.. 🤟
What a great human bean. Awesome lesson, too.
Love this!!
Not going to lie this made me cry a little. Such a great talent lost for no good reason. May him and Vinny rest in peace. The real heart of the band.
18 years and I still tear up. Such a shame. 😔
Dimes taste, and groove are like chips and salsa! Just can't get enough. Gotta feel that $#it in your cajones! Or whatever you got down deep inside....
God I miss Dime!!
Forever STRONGER THAN ALL 🤘🤘 we miss you Brotherman 😔
Getcha pull brother Dime. Miss ya man. Had so many awesome riffs left to share with the world but cut short by someone else's suffering and mental illness. Rest in power Abbott brothers.
this year marks 18 years since we lost one of the greatest heavy-metal guitars of all time, in 2024 it will mark the 20th anniversary of his untimely passing, guitar world better do a whole issue dedicated to him, along with songs and lessons and the whole 9 yards, I feel sort of kinship with Darrell. I almost died the same month he did. I got bit by a brown recluse spider 🕷️ while working at a warehouse the weekend that he was killed and a couple weeks later after that I was in the hospital 🏥 fighting for my life I survive but Unfortunately Dime did not. I almost would trade places with him just to have someone as awesome as him back, rest in peace brother See you again soon.🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶👊🏼
06:20 God DAMN. This cat is just too awesome. His words were MUSIC. I wish we had more of this musicality in these modern times of processing and computer augmentation. Take away the shimmer of technology, and Dime would be left with the purest musical perfection. Legend.
I own this video and have been searching high and low for it. Can't remember what it looks like. At least someone got it up on CZcams
I owe you a big one Dimebag; I owe you so many cherished moments with my friends, with my family, with my 4year old kido; I owe you man. You gave me reasons to be in good spirits anytime. Love and respect
I have this feeling we will see a LOT of Dimebag Darrel/Pantera footage the next few months 😁😆
... and so we should! Really hope the guitar magazines start featuring him again
Amazing
Watching this is so cool but it also makes me extremely sad.😢
Rest in peace my man
We really did lose the absolute GOAT... 🔥🔥🔥
RIP my hero
He came to rock… and rocked like no other, with the heart twice the size of Texas, our beloved brother, companion, mentor, idol, and friend…we love you Dime…until we meet again.
If you love dime pour one out and slam back a blacktooth grin, getchya pull!! 333
Hell yeah
Man I miss Dime! Why him to be taken so fucking early? He really was a great person/musician. He was my guitar hero, and always will be.
G.O.A.T. Dimebag . Metals finest. The King of the Dean guitars.🍺🍻🥃👍🤠🎶🎛️🎵🔈 It looks like a signature model by Washburn guitars.
If only Dime was still here!... just.... damn man!... we all know he's left a massive gap, and the gap got deeper when vinnie passed, and the gap will grow because of the amount of music that could of been... RiP!
This man right here is the main reason I play guitar...I always loved music and playing music (I played trumpet and the Clarinet in middle/high school) but never really wanted to play guitar until I heard this man play...been hooked ever since I even bought a cheap non Dime headstock ML and put "DIMEBUCKERS" in it and strung it up with DL Dime strings... Unfortunately by the Time I became the hardcore Pantera/Damageplan fan that I am Dimebag had already been murdered by Nathan and I never got to see him live (I was only 12 years old when he was shot)....So what I'm trying to say here is Dimebag is the GOAT of Metal IMHO and noone will ever change my mind!!!! GETCHA PULL!!!!!
A legend beyond anyone's imagination.
No kidding man.
He came and conquered
The man
Wow, what gift to those who had a chance live through the years of Dimebags life. Outside of Eddie VH, no one more special. I want a black tooth grin.
Miss you Dime 😔
Miss you Dime. Fucking legend.
wish this man was still hear taken to soon
Thank you for this upload. Please find any by Alexi Laiho
Active pickups sound great, but his tone overall is stellar
We all know dime like doing his home videos, just imagine if he was alive, he would definitely have a wild CZcams channel, getting up to his shenanigans haha
One in a million
Legend
Love that tone
Chug chug chug chug. You too can have that tone. Pick up a chug pedal and just turn your gain, overdrive ,and treble on your amp down and let the pedal do its job. 🤘
Getcha' Pull!!! R.I.P Dime
saw pantera 3 times in the midwest -i consider myself lucky !
so much new creations we miss... sad
