Dimebag Darrell met his longtime idol (besides Ace Frehley) Eddie Van Halen for the first time just several weeks before his death in 2004. Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul got picked up in a limo sent by Eddie and brought to a Van Halen concert, partied backstage with Eddie and VH, Darrell even got to play Eddie's guitar at sound check. Dimebag Darrell offered Eddie $30,000 for one of his striped guitars, Eddy told him instead he'd make him up a special custom guitar just for him. When Eddie heard about Dimebag's death a few weeks later, He called Vinnie and asked if there's anything he could do, Vinnie told him he couldn't decide which guitar to bury his brother with in his Coffin. Eddie said he'd bring a striped guitar. Vinnie told Eddie his brother liked the look of his black and yellow striped guitar on the Van Halen II album. Vinnie was so touched that Eddie Van Halen offered to personally make up a copy of of his guitar to be buried with his brother. Eddie then showed up at the funeral home. But he did not bring a copy of his guitar like he told Vinnie on the phone. Eddie Van Halen instead brought the actual ORIGINAL 1979 Charvel Black and Yellow striped "BumbleBee" guitar pictured on the Van Halen II ALBUM. Eddie told Vinnie, "An Original for an ORIGINAL!!"" Which that guitar is buried with Dimebag Darrell in his Custom made KISS Coffin sent personally from the man himself Gene Simmons along with some other items in the coffin to this day. Only someone as great as Dimebag could have commanded this much respect from the Master himself. R.I.P. Darrell and Vinnie..........and now in 2020 R.i.P Eddie Van Halen. So sad these legends went way before their time. Unbelievable losses to the Rock world.
I'm not ashamed to say I shed tears watching this video over and over again....I can't imagine what Vinnie Paul feels to watch all these memories and to know that he wont laugh and joke like this with Dime again....if its hard 4 us like fans just imagine how it's for his family or close friends....THUMBS UP IF YOU MISS DIMEBAG!!
"We wont be doing a pantera reunion in 5 or 6 years" PFFFFT I can surely bet ANYTHING that Pantera would have reunited without any problems if Dime was still alive.
Dimebag didn't care how long he was going to live. He truly lived his life to the fullest. And now both Darrell and Vinnie are jamming forever in the afterlife with EVH. RIP
i met him and shook his hand once. another time while doing security at a pantera show front and center the band gave him the stage to rip a guitar solo. i play guitar too so i was having my mind blown listening to this maniac just burn the place down. however,my job was to catch crowd surfers so they didn't crack their heads open on the concrete floor and that alone was keeping me plenty busy. he kneeled down on the stage right behind me and kneed me in the back of the head. when i looked up there he was shredding that washburn rebel flag guitar which i had never seen. i was stunned at what was happening right before my eyes for an unknown fraction of a moment. just then a crowd surfer fell right in front of me and landed on his head. i was moved to a different area immediately. ive been trying to find that guitar to add to my collection just because of the impact it had on my life. but finding one has become a major PAIN IN MY ASS !!! laying eyes on that guitar with dime playing it literally took my breath away and time stood still for a moment. that at the salem armory in oregon when they played with anthrax and atari teenage riot or something.
so sad the way it went down. you can tell from miles away they love each other and they really have a true passion for music. thanks for all the kickass jams, Abbott Brothers. here's to Dime & Vinnie ...rock on!
I think that the first time I heard about Dimebag's existence was in 2007, when I was 13 years old and I only got deep into Pantera in 2011, at the age of 17. However after watching this and other home videos of the kind I feel like I've known Pantera and Dimebag ever since they released Cowboys. It feels like he's someone I hung out with and known personally for many years.

Pantera the baddest metal band that ever existed
RIP to the Abbott brothers. They are truly missed!!!
Dime was as beautiful as a person as he was as a guitarist
Sadly the guitars they donated were lost in a flood. :(
"We wont be doing a pantera reunion in 5 or 6 years" PFFFFT I can surely bet ANYTHING that Pantera would have reunited without any problems if Dime was still alive.
Probably the coolest dude that ever lived. I mean that literally.
His heart is pure and he really enjoyed life for what it was. RIP Brother Dimebag Darell.

I seen Pantera 10 times live. I grew up with them, watched all the VHS tapes, and their music was so much a part of my youth.
