The main issue is that Ukraine can’t buy BlackHawks directly from the US because it needs Pentagon approval which is still pending.. …. Russian tactics in a nutshell :
1. Send in the tanks anyway, with no infantry support.
2.Tanks blown up.
3. Send in the infantry after the tanks.
4. Infantry killed.
5. Russian trolls then boast how well the “SMO” is going and how badly Ukraine is ‘losing’
In many cases, those that are mobility killed/ abandoned Russian tanks are then salvaged, repaired/ parted out and added to the Ukrainian army.
Reminds me of the 1939 Russo/ Finnish winter war in many regards.
It will be interesting to see how the three new Ukrainian mechanized armored infantry divisions perform.

It's almost May, so training starts next Month so the spring offensive will probably be a late summer offensive??
I dont think abrams will be in offensive anyway and summer is more logic. UA need earth be ideal for vehicles to drive now it is still muddy. My country send 37 modernize tanks T72 last weak and will send more. Also many armor vehicals is send these days from poland, neatherlands and many places.
The Abrams are supposed to arrive in the fall and should hopefully offset the expected losses of modern western tanks. They will be joined by
a couple dozen more Leopard 2s (Germany has 22 in deep storage at Rhinemetal that should be restored to service by the fall,and they are trying
to get tanks back from Italy and the Swiss) and well over a hundred (and possibly, much more) Leopard 1A5s restored to service from Denmark
as well as 90 in private hands in Belgium. It's also possible the Brits will part with another 14 Challenger 2s to offset any losses among the 14 already
sent to Ukraine.
And don't forget the French have well over a hundred AMX-10s they could send to Ukraine to replace those AMX-10s lost over the summer.
Those tanks would still be delivered no matter how the offensive turns out. If Ukraine has to negotiate, the Russians must know that equipment losses
will be made whole and any cease fire would have no restrictions (outside nukes) on the weapons provided to Ukraine,including modern western fighter

The best way to use those tanks is to concentrate them in open areas and blast away at long range. That is the main advantage they have...longer range, better targeting and better armor. If they get too close, Russian tanks and a multitude of anti-tank weapons can stop them. Yes they are excellent weapon systems but they need to be used right and not just thrown into the fray.
You use them at long range with supporting APCs and infantry.

Modern is relative. The tanks of spain and many other sending nations are on the state of the mid and late Eighties. Only the tanks from germany, sweden and portugal are newer versions.

Our tanks are harder to maintain and require more training. There is more involved with the Abrams, and we are a continent away. It was easier for the U.K.

The biggest supplier of foriegn tanks to Ukraine have always been the Russians. Mostly T-72s, but alot of T-80s, some T-90s, and more and more

As more German-made Leopard 2 tanks and UK-made Challenger 2 tanks are arriving in Ukraine for their spring offensive, next month America is sending 31 Abrams tanks for Germany, where Ukrainian tankers will train on them so that later this year they will be on their battlefield. Many believe they are going to take back Crimea this year, which Russia stole in 2014.
We need to send more Abrams. We have 2300 in long term storage. They were designed/built to fight the Soviets (now the Russians). Send hundreds. That fight is finally here and most of the stuff sits in warehouses. I applaud what we've done so far, but why not more?

Germany is already working with Poland to build the first repair facilities for Leopards and Tanks in General in Poland on the border with Ukraine. Even good tanks are not invulnerable and free of technical maintenance. The same should apply to the Abrams, the British Challenger or any Western MBT, infantry fighting vehicle or self-propelled howitzer.
After all, if these vehicles are to have an even greater effect in the war effort, then logistics and ammunition supply must be assured. Apart from the superiority of weapons against the aggressor Russia, this makes the big and important difference.

The Brits sent 14 Challenger 2 tanks out of existing active inventory. The Brits are upgrading only a slim majority of existing Challenger 2s
to Challenger 3 models,so those tanks sent would have been scrapped or placed in storage anyways.
The US has to strip down it's M1A1s of advanced armor protection and fire controls before they are shipped to Ukraine.
Why?
Because the US doesn't want a captured Ukrainian Abrams to be studied by Russians leading to their finding a way to compromise it's
most advanced systems.
The Brits see themselves keeping their edge by upgrading their remaining tank fleet. The Americans want to keep their edge by both building
a next-generation Abrams, and by keeping the best features of even an older model Abrams in American hands only.

There was a project in the nineties for cheap airborne tanks made of what was once considered as "plasteel" or similar material like for one use and disposal (MANPADS, anti-tank missiles) . Now such vehicles with AI can be modified to become "wingmen" for commander's MBT . Technology of swarm bots (like small robots ) acquiring certain formations according to commander's orders . Formation , primary opponent target , cover fire , protecting , on point for mines.....
Cheap and nowadays maybe even with parts produced by 3D printing .
