To require a chaperone to ensure there’s no physical or mental abuse for a supposedly light hearted dance competition, just shows that this does not fall under the label of entertainment but rather a programme which creates enormous amounts of money for the channel no matter the consequences. There is a massive cover up by the BBC as we have seen in the past and the integrity of the producers and those who create these programmes needs to be fully examined.

I am at a loss, as Zara and her boyfriend included her Strictly dance partner in their Instagram account, even after finishing the show. I haven't followed them for several months, but they seemed to be friendly. However, what made me unfollow her and her boyfriend was that it seemed to me he and his friend Pete were kind of jerks with her in their content and she just stands and takes it. I'm surprised James Jordan wasn't fired but that was back before caring about women was fashionable enough. He was absolutely vile the way he shouted at and berated his female dancers. In one case he made a female actress cry and Strictly just allowed it. You can see from how he speaks to women on reality shows that he's a vile misogynist. Horrible. No idea how Ola tolerates him. If you knew about abuse and victims (especially in a power imbalance situation such as parent-child/older-younger siblings, schools and professional sports/dance) then you would know that it ALWAYS takes a long time for the victim to speak out.
There are a lot of reasons for this but the main one is (a false sense of) shame and a feeling that you "should have" done this or that eg. told someone at the time.
You are also cowed by the idea of confronting the abuser (or meeting them again, even in court) and it's tempting just to try to put it in the past and try to forget about it because the LAST thing you feel like doing is re-living the painful memories...

I’m going to put a different side to this …I really feel its unfortunate that great dancers like Graziano & Giovanni have left the program, I feel there’s a situation of jumping on the bandwagon because Amanda Abbington couldn’t cope & the training was more than she anticipated. If these personalities had an issue they should have spoke to HR on the program at the time & NOT all this time after the event. When you think how long the program has been running & the amount of tv personality ( I resist the word stars as in recent yrs their not particularly high profile people) have been through i have to say I’m not feeling the sympathy. Yes it’s stressful their out of their comfort zone.. all celebrities have said previously they didn’t realise how hard work it would be. These celebrities are not shrinking violet’s they are, where they are, because they have pushed themselves forward & have a voice. They should put it behind them & say “ that wasn’t for me”
    I support the dancers.

I don't know the details of this case but it's common knowledge among counsellors that abuse victims - especially those who "got used to" abuse from a partner or relative when they were younger - become easily attached to their abuser.
They're sadly conditioned to being the victim of controlling narcissists and so it's their "normal" 😢
We should be glad that Zara appears to be on the way to breaking that conditioning and "waking up" (so to speak) to the reality of what she suffered and the fact that she doesn't have to tolerate it.

Out of all the competitors on Strictly, we have two ladies, who say they felt bullied, one post a professional dancer being fired, having being friends with him on social media since the show finished, which is confusing, because surely if you felt bullied and abused, you wouldn't be friends with them for 2 years.
Someone making you do something, which is hard work and tiring, over and over again, until you get it right, is just part of any sport
Alison said that there was always someone around and I am sure that the number of people asking the contestants if they are OK, from hair, make up, costumes and producers, that if something wasn't right they had the space to say "actually no"
Coming from competitive dancing world, I know it's hard and for someone who's not been in a competitive environment may not understand how it is and find it hard.

Multiple people have reported both Giovanni and Graziano's behaviour to the BBC. In Graziano's case, it wasn't actually Zara that reported him, they contacted her as part of a WORKPLACE investigation.
The BBC has reviewed video evidence of Graziano kicking, hitting and spitting at Zara. Graziano has even admitted to it. Why on Earth are you defending this kind of behaviour?
Your comment and others seem to suggest that it's ok to abuse colleagues because your work is stressful. In what other profession would this be acceptable? At the end of the day we are talking about dancing - it's not that serious, is it?

@@piptig5327I completely agree with you. Also the lines have become blurred between a tv show and competitiveness. This isn’t a formal dancing competition. The professionals are there to teach and support and bring out the best in the celebrities. Feels like it’s just become all about winning at any cost. The behaviour reported (and admitted to) whether it happened once or 10 times is totally unacceptable.

    • @Themoonsaballoon
      @Themoonsaballoon Před 25 dny

To be fair, it has not been proved at all that Giovanni oGraziano did those things. Graziano admitted himself that he did a kick one time, the other things are hearsay. Not saying it’s right to do that - obviously isn’t, however I’m wondering if ‘kick’ in the sense we may understand it is correct. To be devil’s advocate, I can imagine a dancer giving a hard nudge to one of your feet to guide it in the right direction and this could be misinterpreted. The professionals do move and twist the contestants bodies quite forcefully anyway in the rehearsal rooms. Apparently, Graziano is extremely depressed and was put on suicide watch by his family. I do think people should be careful how they judge & condemn others until there is definitive proof. I’m not saying bullying didn’t occur, but just because someone is a woman or a celebrity shouldn’t make them believed outright with no proof. We all saw that happen with poor Johnny Depp and the vile Amber Heard accusations. Look how that all turned out. Just sayin’

This conversation segment is completely missing the point about what in fact is an example of domestic/partner type abuse just in a work/teaching setting. Something which has also been a problem in male female partner competitive activities like Ice dancing over the years and sometimes between coaches and athletes. Including in tennis. The point Alison raised about professional boundaries is absolutely right, it is an imbalanced relationship and there should be an absolute no relationship rule. Which is clearly outlined and agreed to by all involved before they start. But Strictly and the BBC have always used that "element of chemistry" and the are they/aren't they storyline about couples, especially younger, single attractive celebrity, professional dancer couples as a selling point and attention generating method. So they really need to look at that dynamic as well.

It's very hard to describe why you continue in a situation where you're being abused. It's really complicated, there's usually a power imbalance and you're often made to feel like maybe you're misunderstanding the situation. Often gaslighting is involved so you doubt your own perception of abuse. Unless you've experienced it, it is hard to understand.
