Thank you so much, it definitely meant a lot to me, he was in the hospital the same time as my wife with the same time, but he had had the jabs and the boosters and I feel like that’s probably what killed him, as I was already having an adverse effect on him before entering the hospital

What a memorial, LG. Oh, if Browning would only get Miroku to make those and the '92s again... Your friend must have been quite a man and awful decent to have left that rifle for you. It's a blessing to have folks like that in one's life.

When those first came out in 1986 I spotted one in our local gun shop I wanted it bad but it was over twice the money that I could afford and with a wife a two kids just starting school it was only a dream, I did however found an old beat up and shot out original 1886 a few months later and spent the next 32 years refurbing it with new 45-70 barrel, wood and mix of blueing and rust browned it all, I hunt with it and shoot it as much as I can, it will get handled down to my son and grandson.

What a great story and a beautiful rifle. I always loved the lever guns as well, although in 1986 when Browning brought out the 1886 my friend at the local gun shop showed me one and I could believe how much bigger it was compared to the 1873 and 1894 guns. If I remember that gun was $600.00 and I passed on it. That was another big mistake.

I know the special attachment that you have for that rifle. My grandpa started taking me hunting with him when I was 6 years of age in 1955. And I'd better be still and quiet or I'd find myself back home with grandma next hunting trip. I inherited his old pre-64 Model 70 Featherweight 308 with a Lyman Alaskan 4X cross post scope. I can't help but feel a little of my grandpa's soul still exists in that rifle due to the many memories of the times we spent together hunting as I was growing up under his patient but firm instruction. I would not sell that rifle for anything as those memories of him are still so deeply planted in my heart and memory.

So for me the long time goal is the model 71 in .348 Winchester, and I want to replace a mistake I made by selling a marlin. 444 I had. I have seen that Winchester has now produced some. 444 marlin.
On another subject I have 2 bullet Molds with 8 different test bullets for the .31 cap n ball Remington, and as of now own a 1849 colt as well to test them in. 5 out of the 8 work as they should loading on the gun. 3 of the on the Remington, 5 on the colt. Weight range 63, 67, 72, 77, and 90 grain. All 8 are able to be loaded off the gun using my tower. The 3 that only load off the frame are 70,75, and 80 grained that looks like a baby kaido. Was not my intention, however that's how the result the 80gr came out. I also am now in the posession of a test mold for the .36 cal. Test weights of 126, 2 @ 130, and 150 gr. On order is 2 molds for the .44 cal. 1 for colt/Remington, the other for ruger/walker. Remington weights 170, 195, 220, and 225 gr. Ruger/walker weights @ 240, 250, 260, and 270gr.
The big question is would be interested in taking a look at any of these as they are available?

I just finished Nathan Gorensterin's excellent book "The Guns of John Moses Browning"...read it if you get the chance...the only drawings he made of his firearms were for his patent applications - when he started to design a firearm the design was in his head...he'd make facsimiles of the parts on paper and cut therm out to see how they worked before making it from steel...he started from the breech and worked he way forward ...he'd stand by his half brother, Ed, as he was making the prototype and tell him how to cut/shape the part with (at first) only hand tools...

What is your thoughts, ideas, experience, etc. in the different brands of the 1886? Winchester vs Browning vs Pedersoli vs Uberti. I know this question usually brings on arguments but your experience with and use of the 1886 would be good insight on the subject.

Browning and Winchester reproductions are basically the same thing, The newer Winchesters have a tang safety and a rebounding hammer both are made in Japan, The original Winchesters is a different story, The Italian made 1886 more closely resembles the original, I have no real experience with their 1886, but as far as experience with other Italian made guns they usually look good but sometimes they have mechanical problems, My brother bought a 1876 probably 10 years ago for about $1600 The tubular magazine won’t stay in place the barrel rifling is different depths on different sides of the barrel making bullets out of round, some of the internal parts had to be reworked to get the gun to function properly, not saying that’s everyone’s experience but I’m going off of my experience and it was a Cymarron which is supposed to be more highly finished and refined than the standard a Italian made firearm, I think they’re decent guns but you might have to do a little work to it, The problem is is they usually cost more than the Japanese made guns which are usually far superior in my opinion, I have never needed to work on one to get it to function properly, however I do need to get a Italian made 1886 so I can make proper comparisons, because they may be trying to keep their quality control up on them better than other firearms that they produce, most firearms produced in Italy are made by one manufacture but renamed when they’re imported. I feel you should take this with a grain of salt like I said I haven’t actually tested any Italian made 1886s, But I have talked with other people that have re-barreled them to 50-110 and they load them hotter than I do, so technically they should be OK

My Stepfather had an original 1886 in .45-70 but I don't know where it went at his passing...

JMB's first upgrade of the Winchester lever action with a locking block design that allowed the rifle to withstand the pressures (black powder) that would have destroyed the older toggle link design.
