Comparing most Mario music to Sonic music is an apples to oranges comparison.
Completely different vibes for completely different feeling games.
Most Sonic music is made to hype you up, and to play off that signature aura of "cool" with rock, edm, etc. With a preference for high energy, the music tends to steal the show when it really gets going
Mario takes a much different approach most of the time. Light jazz inspiration for some of the early games, straight up jazz for plenty of the modern games' music, and grandiose orchestral pieces aplenty. It's overall much more focused on being funky and whimsical, more interested in being supplemental to the game rather than the focus.
But, when they do go rock, they absolutely can nail that too. Just take Break Free (Lead The Way) for example. A much more fitting comparison

Yeah, I also think Super Mario 64 aged poorly and I own Super Mario 3D All-Stars (before I had a Switch!). At least I can listen to the soundtrack whenever I please.

Scott the Woz is great at a lot of things when it comes to CZcams. Release dates are not one of them.
It's funny how Scott the Woz complains about video game release dates being delayed, but he himself has been infamous for delaying big videos or ambitious videos.
