I agree with that. I think the 2000 season gave us the best season of MNF. We got Rams vs Bucs, HE DID WHAT??? and The Jets comeback vs Miami all in 2000. But this game was right up there with the best MNF games of all time
Growing up in NC, as an 8th Grader, this game (and the Colts next game against the Panthers, as well as the Chiefs/Packers game), solidified my fandom of the NFL. These are the reasons why the 2003 NFL season will always have a special place in my heart, as it was the first season that I followed the sport on a consistent basis.
Ive been watching the NFL since 2000. This is the first and only time Ive ever heard the Leaping call. Im actually surprised with player safety being more of a factor that leaping isn't called more often
@@AmirKhan-yv8jm that kickoff return was the momentum changer. A lot went right for the Colts, but they made virtually all of it happen and didn’t really get lucky outside of recovering the onside kick after the initial score
On the scorebug ticker, note the Red Sox/A's ALDS Game 5. Between that and the Peyton MNF all-timer of a comeback, this was a memorable Monday sports viewing night.
Yeah the refs blew the call. What Rice did happens on basically every FG or PAT block attempt. I remember Al Michaels specifically saying "What is that? What kind of a call is that?".
You've heard of the Music City Miracle, right? This is the first Circle City Miracle lol; the others being the 2006 AFC Championship game..Colts/Patriots, and Colts/Chiefs when the Colts won 45-44
The most ridiculous comeback I've ever seen in the NFL. Three touchdowns in three minutes to force overtime. Ansolutely insane. And frankly this game changed the course of both franchises for years to come.
I remember this game like it was yesterday. I had a big exam in my history class my junior year in college so I went to bed with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter seeing that the Bucs could not lose this game with that big lead....oh how I was wrong. I wonder how much you would have won if you put $20 on the Colts when they were down 35-14 with 4 minutes to go, that would have been a very good bet to have made.
Does anyone know the music used here? It was never used for NFL Primetime. Usually was reserved for Sportscenter highlights of NFL and NCAA Football games.
This game was the beginning of the end for the Bucs title defense. That Tampa 2 was prone to getting burned deep. Keenan McCardell would make the Pro Bowl off this game alone tho
Indy last year won on the road at Denver in a snowstorm, blew out Philly at the Vet. Both impressive. But THIS is not just a great road win- this is an all-timer of a MNF win. They and Kansas City at this point are the AFC's two best teams so far. Next week may be a battle of unbeatens, but Carolina is a much less impressive unbeaten in comparison.
This was an unbelievable comeback. But the successful onside kick shouldn't have counted. The kick didn't bounce; it popped straight up, so the Bucs legally should've had an opportunity to fair catch it.
I know the NFL admitted after that there should have been a penalty on the Colts. Maybe the refs just didn't remember that it applied in that situation or something, since onside kicks typically are bounced along the turf.
I wonder how many Colts fans in Indy went to bed before the comeback with it approaching midnight especially if they had to be up for work only to midd the historic comeback
Remember the last time Indy played on MNF and how bad they looked at Pittsburgh last October? Peyton more than redeemed himself for that Steeler clunker
Tampa.................... BRUH. You can shut down a lot of good QB's, but can't figure out Peyton for just a few minutes? I would not want to be in Washington's shoes next week.
One of the most amazing MNF games of all time.

Fun fact: Not only was this Peyton Manning’s first and last game in Tampa, he was also undefeated in his career against the Buccaneers.
Tony Dungy's homecoming game. Dungy returns to TB as a Colts HC for the first time since 2001.
Sweet revenge for him.
This game was one of many examples as to why Tampa didn’t repeat as super bowl champions let alone make the playoffs
Yup, the vaunted TB defense blew that big lead!
First meeting since 1997

It hadn’t been called in a half century
@@marcusmcgraw3519this game shouldn’t have come down to that, the Bucs should have been able to capitalize on that big lead with that vaunted defense!

This was a helluva game
The game Peyton Manning took his play to an elite level
Yessir
@@playoffexpert3938 he earned his first MVP and playoff win that season!
To this day that leaping call is one of the most bogus calls I’ve ever seen called. I swear that happens every game.
It is egregious
Yeah the refs blew the call. What Rice did happens on basically every FG or PAT block attempt. I remember Al Michaels specifically saying "What is that? What kind of a call is that?".
It shouldn’t have come down to that, the defending champs should not have blown that big lead!
Back when MNF started at 9pm on ABC!

Yup, the Bucs wouldn’t win another playoff game until TB12 arrived!
Terrible snap on the re kick
I wonder if there was ever a mic’d up of this game because Peyton’s audibles must have worked wonders against that Bucs defense!
That defense blew a big lead- post SB hangover!

So how did the bucs get the ball back for the game tying score???
Indy basically exposed Tampa that night. No ifs ands or buts about it.
4:19-4:22 Warren Sapp's infamous untied black and red Nike cleat that resulted from all that foot stomping he did after the leaping call.
Sapp trolling the Colts during warm ups 🤣🤣🤣
Boy that colt defender who fumbled his own int for a td better have sent peyton a Christmas card.
James Mungro (Jerry)

That's why they play............ the whole game
this loss started a down trend that basically took them until last season to recover from

And they ending up losing 41-0 to the NY Jets in the WC round the prior season (2002)! Lol😂

This really shocked the Bucs that season where they didn't recover after this one.
This was an unbelievable comeback. But the successful onside kick shouldn't have counted. The kick didn't bounce; it popped straight up, so the Bucs legally should've had an opportunity to fair catch it.
It makes me think the rules were much different back then.

Leaping?

Peyton more than redeemed himself for that Steeler clunker
Sure, he landed on players after his jump, but it’s not like he used leverage before his jump.
Tampa.................... BRUH.
You can shut down a lot of good QB's, but can't figure out Peyton for just a few minutes?
I would not want to be in Washington's shoes next week.
Maybe Peyton was able to see the coverages pre-snap and audible to whatever formation he liked to beat that Tampa 2!
You know I don't think tampa has it this year.
