#BarrySanders #playerhighlights #Collegefootball - Sport
Rushed for 2600 yards in 11 games, with 37 touchdowns in 1 season! He is, hands down, the greatest running back of all time for both NFL and college football.
It was actually over 2,700 yds & 39 touchdowns. Either way, the best back in history
And thatâs with him sitting out several 4th quarter games because it was too easy, he was just doing too much damages.
@@viperguyz Definitely. He had FOUR 300yd games for fuck sake. It's Barry baby
%100 agree
2,850 yards in 12 games.
A generational player in a league of his own. Greatest running back i ever saw, college or pro.
If you include the bowl game he had 2850 yards and 44 TDs. If he played 13,14,15 games like guys do now, heâd have had like 3400 yards and over 50 TDs
Good point! I think Melvin Gordon in 2015 had 2587 in 14 games, the closest threat to Sanders' record. What's unfair is that Gordon, whose bowl stats would have counted, would have been credited with the record had he eclipsed 2628, which was Sanders' regular season number. It's time for the NCAA to go back and update records to include bowl stats.
way more than that remember he didn't play in the 4th quarter some games
He also did it against the best run defenses in college football
I remember at the 2018 Heisman Ceremony when Chris Fowler said: (in a room full of heisman winners) âAll due respect to you other guys, but the best guy I ever saw play on the football field was Barry Sanders.â I guess thatâs true đ
Barry was better than Emmitt. Smith could run hard, but not cut corners, spin on a dime, make so many defenders miss and look silly trying to tackle him, etc, like Sanders did.
@@MrLifetime9rfan I agree. I just wish Barry played for a better franchise than Detroit. Smith got the benefit of playing with a franchise, that, at least in the 1990's, was committed to winning. Barry did not have that, and often did what he did without the supporting cast Smith had.
@@tmarsh0307, If the 'O' line Barry ran behind, which was an absolute joke, would have been half the blocking ability of what Emmitt had, that rushing record would be UNTOUCHABLE at around 30k yards or more.
@@tmarsh0307 czcams.com/video/7ARepw8RV6Q/video.html
Put Barry with those Cowboy teams in the 90's and they would have won 10 championships and he would have easily had averaged 2000 yard seasons
In 87 Switzer told his defense that no matter what you do donât hurt Thurman Thomas. You donât want the backup running back in the game.
I can definitely picture that
Anybody who loves football will tell you that this back is the greatest.... and he was so humble! Still today he never takes glory!!!!! I love this man!
There was nothing like watching Barry Sanders. Most talented and unique player ever to play.
Minute 1:42 to 1:43 sums up Barry Sanders: Greatness and humbleness. Athletes nowadays could learn something
Started watching/understanding sports around '91. Grew up around Detroit. It was good time to get into them then around there.
Barry, Isiah, Stevie, Fedorov, Trammell, Looooooou, Chuck Daly, heated rivalries...
His ability to make men miss will never be matched
Incredible moves and juking ability.
I'm trying to break his records on NCAA 14 still
U ain't lyin
to hell with your football records. you are a great man. i admire the hell out of you barry.
I heard from a bartender that he was an arrogant asshole
@@dc7236 lol cool story bro
Barry Sanders is the GOAT
BlackMusicGenre nope Walter Payton is
If Barry would've had a decent 'O' line, like Emmitt Smith did, imagine how far out of reach that NFL Rushing Record be right now, with Sanders name on it, then he wouldn't have prematurely retired. I'm guessing 25-30k yards.
Khalil Mack #52 you keep telling yourself that nonsense. Walter doesnât hold a candle to Barry.
@@daveb2256 exactly maybe if that was the real Khalil Mack I might want to even engage in an argument but since it's just some dude stealing the name he has no relevance
@PRESIDENT OBAMA Barry played one season as a starter in college and ran for 2,628 yards⊠wrap your mind around that. The guy couldnât be stopped! Walter fans are like people who think Pepsi is better than Coke. Barry is Coke and Walter is Pepsi. Also, Barry averaged 100 yards a game career. Walter averaged 88. Also, Barry played for The Lions! Lions are the worst team in NFL history
Barry's college career at OSU is proof he can run through holes. He just didn't have any with the Lions. This was the true Barry Sanders. He ran with a FB in a more traditional offense. That stupid Lions Run and Shoot offense actually hampered Barry's career. In 1997, they switched over to a Pro offense with a FB & suddenly Barry ran for over 2000 yards. No coincidence.
People really donât realize how bad that franchise wasted his football life. Barry was a pure football player
"We don't need a competent running scheme, we have Barry Sanders." That pretty much seemed to be the attitude. Only a handful of all-time greats are that good.
Best comment
Sadly the Detroit Lions have ruined 2 of the All time greats careers. That why Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson both retired early. And the Lions were stubborn assholes and wouldnât trade either guy. Look what happened to Stafford as soon as he got traded!! Lolđ
You mean the year Barry had 32 yards in two games out of the I form with a fullback leading and they switched back to single back and he went for 2,000 yards the next 14 games?
The Greatest Running Back in College and NFL Football History!!!!!!!!
I disagree
@@chaseknuckles2455 Hall Of Fameer Rod Woodson's ACL and MCL agrees with me.
Sean thatâs cool! I think he would be the greatest RB ever if he kept on playing. The lions o line was just terrible and he didnât have a lot around him. Lions waste talent đ. Jim Taylor Barry sanders and Calvin Johnson. Lmao. If we could see more from Barry sanders than I would call him the goat of all running backs. Maybe even just one more season. Get another 2000 yard season and break Emmits record. (Not saying that Emmit Smith is the best rb.)
@@chaseknuckles2455 exactly E.Smith had GREAT O-Lines HOF O-Lines and Barry had terrible O-Lines and E. Smith had to play 150% longer than Barry just to beat Barry.
Sean agreed.
the way Barry ensures the Ref has the football... i felt that đ«đ
He was a class act.
Yeah, that moment also spoke to me lol. How he realized his slipup and immediately corrected it, just so polite and courteous, perfectly normal tbh though I feel like that's not super common nowadays at least, though I really dk though
OSU was running many of the same plays that the Dallas Cowboys ran with Emmitt Smith.
Barry was LETHAL with a fullback in front of him, and was fearless in goal line and short yardage situations.
Barry is the GOAT. PERIOD.
Great Running Back and an even better human being đ
I'm privileged to have seen Mr. Sanders play.
Class act.
Emmit Smith the all time rushing record was the gift
James Lowery what
Barry is amazing. Still have not seen a more electrifying runner ever.
like how he never spiked the ball , and always made sure he handed to the ref. what a man.
Humbleness let your work, talents, gifts, crafts attributes speak for themself and true sportsman and entertainer Yah,God,Eli,etc .... creation what's greater much credit and acknowledgement to the greatest athlete at that particular position check out his dunking ability as well just an suggestion all the praises to the almighty we're the offsprings
Barry was awesome. I used to laugh when I saw him run because I couldnât believe the crazy stuff he did. But I went to Miami, Christmas Eve or Christmas night, and watched Barry and the Lions take on My Boy Marino. Barry was around 1900 yards or more and was going for the record. Barry only hit around 48 yards from memory but it was the best 48 yards youâll see. (My wife said Barry ran like a bunny rabbit. I think thatâs a good comparison because he could change direction on a dime.)
I don't care what anybody says! This man is a straight video game! By far I mean by far the best running back ever period! End of discussion! Have a great week everyone!
Herschel Walker is betterâŠ
â@@Ainsi110No he was not how much proof do you haters need. You just saw him breaking all these records and you talking about Herschel Walker. Cut it out!
@@antwandukes because hershel walker is the greatest running back in college history? đđ
I have a throwback Barry jersey from Ok state. White with orange numbers / letters. FUCKING SICK
How chill was Barry? Nothing was a big deal. Loved him.
Amazing RB. Shout out to the O line/FB, great blocking!
Whatâs incredible is how many times he should be buried in the backfield for a loss, but he already sees it and jump-cuts the moment he gets the ball and all of a sudden heâs running free.
How many times did this guy make up for horrendous O-Line play by doing this? Itâs unreal.
Love you barry....
Not only the greatest running back ever but a class act !!!
Barry was, and still is, the pride of Detroit. We've never had as good a team as having him on the roster, him and Wayne Fontes built the Lions into a machine that could have eventually taken the Super Bowl with the talent they accumulated
Barry was Bo Sanders Tecmo Ball level in real life in college and the pros
The GOAT đ
To quote John Madden, "There may have been a better running back, but I have never seen him".
Damn...I felt that
He had the best field visit there was he is the goat hands down
2628 yds rushing in 11 games. Bowl game didnât count towards rushing totals. Add his bowl game numbers to make a 12 game season and it comes out to 2850 yds with 42 rushing touchdowns. Now, take his per game avg and add that for a 13th bowl game like they have in todayâs college football. Pretty sure it would tip the 3,000 yd mark with 45 or so TDs. And to top it all off, he made it look easy in the pros as well. Barry wasnât just a great college player that flamed out in the NFL like so many other Heisman winners
Ok Oklahoma is amazing i was raised there, but Barry Sanders was the best RB of all time hands down
Simply the best!
Hands ref ball....ref drops it....retrieves ball and hands back to ref. That one moment speaks louder than any choreography today's players do in the end zone. Pay attention and learn how greatness is defined, fellas
And, incidentally, also the greatest running back in NFL history. Not too bad, eh?
What I loved about Sanders and Derrick Thomas of Alabama, who both had record-breaking seasons in 1988, was how humble they were. Sanders may have had the best single season of any player at any position in NCAA history. Maybe what Joe Burrow did in 2019 was comparable. But Sanders just was so cool about it.
Iâm a lifetime Sooner, and Iâll tell you firsthand, he truly was the greatest.
Only man besides Michael Jordan that I saw can take on a whole team by his damn self. I miss him til this day.
đđđđđđ MGay never took on a whole team by himself. Are you stupid?
Tom Brady had a 25 point comeback without Gronk. Pippen is 6 for 6!
He was a much more north-south runner in college, because he didn't need to be anything else. I think this is a glimpse of what he would've ran like if he had Emmit's line in the pros.
He was sometimes literally running for his life with that Detroit offensive line
That stupid Detroit team didn't use Barry much as a receiver. He was a good receiver in college
@Dr King last time I checked you need 5 guys on the O line. The lions had 2 good guys on the O line but the Dallas Cowboys line was wayyyy better. You would be an idiot to say differently
@Dr King really? Then why he lead the league in missed tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Those O lines of the Lions gave up the most pressure behind the line of scrimmage. Know what you're talking about before you talk
@@lt6245 Those Lions offensive lions were better than Natrone Means line in San Diego and he played outdoors. Not in a comfortable dome like Scary Sanders.
Scary ran like a bitch for minus 1 yard in the playoffs.
Scary Sanders fans always have excuses. Scary ran in a wide open offense with nickelbacks on the field in that run and shoot offense in a dome in a pass happy offense.
Minus 1 yard in a playoff game
âSmall guyâ hilarious
It's like he was playing Madden Rookie mode it just doesn't look fair đ.
Best running back of all-time!!
All those great highlights from his Oklahoma state days and this is the only thing you can come up with
I was in HS. Prayed the Lions took him. His secret weapon was his free hand. He used his free hand better than anyone I ever saw.
did it in the Big 12 too, tough league
My favorite player if all tme.
On the next play Barry is getting the ball ...break
Barry sanders breaking ncaa Records 2658 yards and 38 tds Like Me đ„”đ„
The GOAT...Mike Gundy handing it off to that guy
Iâm a man Iâm 40!
@@cheesegyoza thatâs not true!
Barry Sanders was THAT DUDE
Barry could catch the ball too. He would translate perfectly to todayâs NFL.
He definitely had the greatest season of any college football RB. But you canât be the greatest if you only started one year.
Not true. His NFL career shows you that
@@michaelellison8244 thatâs not even relevant
đđđżđ
At the end they holdin the coach up on everbody shoulders like he the greatest running back in college.
GOAT EN COLLEGE AND GOAT IN NFL
28 carries... Averaging 8.1 YPC... That is an insane stat for a bowl game.
Barry was the G O A T rb. I'm a Dallas Cowboys since the mid 70's. Now argue amongst yourselfs about it ....
Ricky Williams ripped off 50 yards all the time at Texas. No Barry sanders, but he is one of college football's legends.
"It might be a better running back, but I haven't seen him"... John madden
My dad told me a story. He said he was at a Georgia game (my family Georgia fans) and he got a call from his friend in Oklahoma. His friend starting talking about Barry Sanders and that he was a beast. My dad asked him who to compare him to and he said Herschel Walker.
There is nobody to compare Barry too. He really didn't even need an offensive line
cool story bro
The Original Madden RB. THE GOAT.
I think Hershel Walker might have something to say about that. However I love Barry Sanders
When are they going to open Barry Sander's BBQ? They already have Billy Sims BBQ.
Jim Brown. Barry Sanders...everyone else
Love how humble Barry is, but he might be too humble. Takes away from his aura, with stats like that there should be no debate
The best running back in history.
If they gave him a FB and ran him on the goal line in Det from his 2nd year on like he had in college he would have over 20k yards and over 235TDs
The only running back that comes close to barry is bo, if Barry played more than 10 years in the nfl, and bo didn't get a career ending injury which he only played 3 and a half year, who knows. Sportsfans would be saying emmit who the leading rusher in the nfl which i think is a joke. These are the facts, when barry switzser was the head coach at ou he told his players dont hurt Thurman or else Barry is going to play. The funny part about this is he coached the cowboys after, he knows whos the goat lol
The greatest escape Artist the world has ever seen. Yea he was TFL quite a bit but what rb isnât? He could run 20 yards behind line of scrimmage and turn it into a 60 yard td
Barry Sanders is the most unique talent in Football history ! ( college or pros)
''Barry Sanders makes a move, that Akoya Baryshnikov couldn't make in the finals.'' - Mark Champion
Barry could run faster than his legs could stretch
It would be fitting for college players to get a lil' respect after all these years. I've got a GED.
holy shit
Those old school announcers really said nothing the whole time. Jeez i would watch tv with the sound off back then.
Thanksgiving day nfl games will never be the same without Barry Sanders
His blockers got blown the fuck up. But really all they had to do was get in the way and Barry would find way thru lol
As Barry sanders dad was a huge sooner fan, I will always wonder how Barry wouldâve been in Barry Switzers wishbone offense. Iâm not one to be crazy and say he wouldâve been even better Bc I feel like thatâs impossible lol.
Barry's Dad was a Narcissistic asshole .
This is coming from a obsessive Barry fan as a kid and till this day .
Barry was an amazing RB. I enjoyed watching him in the nfl. He is by far the best ever. His cuts and the speed he had was unstoppable only if the lions cared to give him a line that was worth a crap. They did not take care of him like they should. He would have all kinds of records. Sorry barry wish they did
bee gees stayin alive
About to break his record on NCAA Football 2004. 2,578 yards for my running back from Clemson with 1 regular season game to go
They didnât give him player of the game!
Barry..may not have the all time rushing record..only because he let his good friend a gift of his life time ...something Barry didn't want the hype anymore than he likes it now with the what if...?? Just one more season or two or three..than who would have ever in are life time or ever break that record...or if he had the line Smith had..or maybe it's a dream..us as fans of Barry wish we could have seen it mean that much to him as it did for us to see him take that title like the ball and twist ankles and turn heads century's from now ..the fun like Payton had watching kids come up and break his title ..not takeing any thing away from Smith....paper says Barry Sanders gift to his friend is the best..but in the hearts of true football fans ... Thanksgiving and Sundays have never been the same ..never will be....comes close but yet to see that kinda of flame or roar from a king of the hand off..
What gift was that? I don't understand.
@@radconserv68 I'd assume the rushing record? Not sure
Lions had two pro-bowl OL's in the Barry Sanders era. Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover were credited for Sanders early success
Aswell as Jerry Ball all-star one year. Let's not over do it with the "No o-line at all" ..wasnt like he was Earl Campbell on the Saints or Blair Thomas with the Jets..those were border line ASSAULTS
PLUS â let me add..if E Smith wasn't as athletic or instinctive and apparently "ANYBODY could have put up stats behind that line" why didnt Tommy Agee, Lincoln Coleman Daryl Johnston and Blair Thomas put up the same numbers with the same O Line??
Amen to that. Sundays and Thanksgiving day games haven't been the same since Barry left the game.
Gino Khalifa; Herman Moore, Johnny Morton, Brett Perrman. Yeah not hall of famers but the Lions had one hell of a potent passing attack on the 90âs. A rotating cast of big arm quarterbacks kept the defenses honest. Barry Sanders is one of the best pure runners of all time. But he was not a one man show.
The qb is the current HC for OSU
Only two players made me stand every time they touched the ball- Barry and Devin Hester
Id add prime to that list
Billy Sims
This!
If sanders played for cowboys Brady would still be chasing aikman for rings
How? Barry Sanders totaled minus 1 yard in a playoff game. LLOLOLOL
None of those guys should feel bad. Barry made everyone in the NFL look foolish.
I just thought to myself one thing that Barry and Emmitt had in common. They were both Cowboys.
Greatest ever not just college. Barry wasn't great he was like Jordan he's in a class by himself. Miss ya BS
2.7 combine look it up
He is to offense what LT was to defense
Trill.
I cant even do this shit on madden
Mike G tho
Not even berry could help the lions
Right?!
Yeah minus 1 yard in a playoff game
Mufasa2021
Hi I am Barry Sanders, I am going to score 5 touchdowns and quietly go back to the bench.
2:44 guess the fullback didn't see what he saw because he didn't use that block.
