The spare tire light is excellent. Having a c5 for a year now and discovering all the things chevy has done for their car, I am not surprised. My only related problem is the lack of a spare in my car. I am working on a solution, that is simple and incorporates the roof holdown. I will drive much more relaxed when it is done.

    Hey Lyle.
Interesting that they thought to put a light to illuminate the spare tire.
I never knew it was there, so I never looked, but now I'm going to have to check it out.
Off subject a bit, talking about lights, after getting caught out in the rain, I walked past my '96 C4 after a brief, but heavy rain, and the head lights were flipped up, and head lights were on. The car was parked, and headlight switch was off. There was faint smoke coming out of the vent above the headlight switch.
    Never did that before ......
I immediately removed a battery cable.
My guess is it must have an unknown leak, it got rained on ( it usually lives in a garage ) , and the headlight switch must have shorted out, and turned on the lights.
My car is an all stock LT-1 in reallying nice driver condition.
Have you ever heard of this happening to other C4s ?
Thank you for showing some love to C4s. Still my favorite Corvette generation.
    Take care

i'd love to hear your thoughts on the LT4 cars in 96, not just the Grand sports, but the Base cars with the 6 spd, these cars seem left out of a lot of conversations, with more than plenty talk about the LT5, and other special editions, seems to me there was a lot of engineering went into this engine, its not just a LT1 painted red, its basically a 1 year only engine and then retired , other than a 100 camaros in 97. My particular example is a torch red car, with torch red interior, with the LT4 engine in mint condition with 21k original miles. edu wright did an extensive research on the 96 car, the configuration and color of the car puts the production number of this car at 1 of 42 Red, Red LT4 roadsters, its not exactly rare, but its a car not often seen either, at least I've never seen another one.
Yes i drive it every week, and yes this is my 2nd c4, i had a 89 6spd convertible car also, whatever you may think, this car is far superior to my 89. although the 89 had just a bit better handling characteristics.

Hi Chris! The overall rarity of the LT4 and the fact that we don't do deep-engine or high performance work has kept me out of the loop on the internal differences between the LT1 and the LT4. For the work we perform on them (external engine stuff -- optisparks, water pumps, seals and gaskets) there is no substantive difference between the two engines. I have read all kinds of articles regarding the actual power that the LT4 made being considerably greater than the factory stated numbers, but as the only LT4's I get to drive are customer cars, I have never put one through a full performance test out of courtesy and professionalism.
The 96 is a much finer car overall than the 89, but you are correct that the 89 was more focused on handling than the later cars were. Lyle

@@csvette Hi Lyle, there is a bit of difference internally, the heads are different, the intake is different, it has crane type roller rocker arms, other smaller tweaks that a hot rodder would normally do to get a few more horse power, That all being said, i'm sure the engine is close to the stated horsepower rating, I've driven them both LT1 and LT4 , were the car shines is in the upper RPM, the engine mods allow the car to keep breathing at a higher RPM. The BIG difference between a HOT rod version of an LT1 car, and a LT4 car>? The LT4 is factory done! anyway I enjoy your channel, watch it everytime your on, thanks for all the good tips.

I agree ,Sir .I searched for a nice one for quite a while. Saw a car like yours in Cali in 2017 I think very similar. Too far. Found a white lo miler in Fla. Flew down and drove it home to NC where it was sold originally. Vette Source has a good vid on the motor differences. Was told mine Dynoed 342 back when. Hard to find one that hasn't been modded or beat up. Mine unadultered and I use only AC Delco parts if needed. 504 white ones made. Last trip I took it got 22.6 mpg , outran a mustang , and two folks wanted to buy it. Nah, but old knees ...fall in , crawl out. Thanks for y'all post and knowledge.
