The Name Of The Wind The Black Company inspiring Malazan was what caught me. I've not yet finished Malazan too. Sigh... Another work well done, enjoyed this.

If you haven't read The Second Apocalypse series by R. Scott Bakker, then you really need to. After reading that series, I am pretty sure that those books are the only grimdark books. I have read many grimdark books before and after, but none of them even feel grimdark anymore.

Definitely agree with you on Eleventh Cycle. Nothing felt gratuitous and everything serves a clear purpose. I think readers should know if they have trigger warnings or stuff they can do without then it’s up to them to not go into stuff blind and do their research! I saw a CZcams review for this book and in the thumbnail the girl wrote “this is why I don’t trust men” Just wrong on so many levels

The Black Company is one of my favourite books. I see the similarities between it and the Malazan book of the fallen. Great pick.
