Chorus:
(That's just the way it is) well, they passed a law in '64
To give those who ain't got a little more
But it only goes so far
Because the law don't change another's mind
When all it sees at the hiring time
Is the line on the color bar, no, no
That's just the way it is
And some things will never change
That's just the way it is
That's just the way it is, it is, it is, it is

What a humble musician who let the other pianist take the main solo, then during his own solo( while he is tickling the keys to death) he brings in a shredding guitar all for the sake of an absolute banger of a live performance… Bravo to everyone!
I don't care how Bruce delivers it he's the best they'll never be another Bruce Hornsby!
Here I am weeping at LAX. This is the pinnacle of song. Just, completely speechless. The musicianship, joy, lyric, melody all wrapped in one.
This is one the best live performance l have ever seen , the sound engineer here must be guven an Oscar !
All the band members look like they love what they do. This is as close to perfection as it is. I also listen to this group on a weekly basis. ❤
I dont know what it is about this version of the song but it just speaks to the soul
I like how Bruce had a little slip at 5:07, and completely embraces it in the next bar haha, just something I noticed. He's really is such a great artist
So grateful to you for pointing that out - it gives me a smile of joy (and a gasp of admiration) now each time I re-listen!
God bless you, Ethan.
In the context of this (truly) blessed music, your tiny comment has transmitted love to me across thousands of miles and 5 months of time.
These are the small miracles, and the signs that things matter, and nothing is random in a universe in which we are loved and treasured..
One of the rules of jazz improvisation: if you make a mistake, repeat it like you meant to do it!
I noticed it too! Amazing!
@@slickjames2541 My guitarist friend says "one wrong note is a mistake, two or more wrong notes is jazz!"
Thank CZcams for keeping alive the days of REAL & GOOD music. Today’s music is 🗑️
The song that started it all for BH. This version is the very definition of professional musicians seriously on their game. So damn tight. I had to listen again, especially that last few minutes. So much sound. Trying to figure out who is hitting it hardest. Bruce slaying the piano, the bass in the groove, the guitar player... holy shit and then, keeping it all together, the drummer. Damn.
the best
And the message of the song. Incredible. Truly
Edward "Sonny" Emory - drums
@@jazzbutterworth My new favorite drummer!
Absolutely!!! They smoked this!!
We should also appreciate the sound engineers and video producers, the performance looks as if recorded yesterday. Wonderful.
Oh yes..
It sure is tight !!!
Yes sir... Sound is often underappreciated.
Faccccccs!!! No lies told.
Absolutely amazing sound on this set.
What a performance! 👊
Brings shivers to the body and tears to the eyes 👌🏼👌🏼
This is incredible good. Every one is a genius on his instrument.
The guitar in the beginning....amazing👍🏻🤘🏼
Don't know how many times a week I watch this video, it's just that good! The atmosphere, the enjoyment you see on all of the musician's faces, that syncopation at the end...just magnificent! It's just an example on how to make a great song even greater!
I work on guitars for some world famous folks. Some of them "guitar heroes". Sometimes I work deep in the night when no-one else is around. No outside sounds. That's when I put on this band .. to get me happier and enjoy my work. ... and I do BETTER work because of the positive energy this band puts out there. SO co-supportive. SO communal and uplifting ... SO much in the realm of spirit, to me. This stuff is inspirational.
... WOW !!! .... THANK YOU Bruce and that AMAZING band.
That blew me away! Wish I had been there!!
The most amazing drummer .
Amazing!! The entire performance, the set crew, the videographers, the studio level talent is wonderful. I love the slide bass big smiles and the Mark Knofler influenced guitarist. The rhythm keyboardist looks like he is having the time of his life with that giant open smile! Such a departure from the original with the skill oozing from the piano just about 20 years later? I loved the original tune at 16 years old and this just takes it up a few notches to perfect! Nothing like a live revamp with every musican in the zone! But from 2004, this celebrates our love for the artist. ❤
This version really gives me chills. So incredible!
This is what a 'live' version is all about - it takes the original great song and turns it into something so much more. It builds and builds, bit by bit - never too much tension (noise), never too little (boring) - all the while taking us on a journey to heights we may not have thought possible.
Bruce and his band are of magnificent professionalism and quality - Something the average music listener of nowadays won't appreciate, but the music passionates will
Who are the "Noisemakers" ? What a band ! The way Bruce Hornsby de constructed the song and did it with this band deserves a standing ovation ! They are enjoying themselves and that is fantastic.
Real americana and real preaching coming outta that Steinway man they can never break us as long as we keep our arts alive it's what brings us together .
One of the most culturally telling and important billboard chart toppers of all time.
This song is ammunition against division ➗ ❤️ god bless Bruce and his band .
Brilliant! Genius. They are so tight and talented. And they smile and you can tell, they're enjoying the hell out of it!
Better say: "enjoying the heaven out of it"!
This is divine music, offering us just a transcending hint of that biggest of all big pictures.
The Holy Spirit allows artists to do that bit more with their God-given talents.
Bringing us truth=love.
I have loved this song forever, and now hearing this version just takes it to a whole new level. Sonny Emory on drums adds an unbelievable funk vibe to it never before seen, but is so magnificent.
Still awesome in 2020!
That was amazing! Love the mix of the original with the modern groove! Absolute masterpiece!!
Sonny Emory absolutely nailing his part on drums, for anyone unaware this is an example of some of the world’s finest musicians coming together. Absolutely incredible 👌👌👌
Sonny Emory came to mind, but I wasn't sure he was the one. The last time I saw him was on Drumeo's channel. I've always liked Sonny's neat drum notes.
Wow...incredible. The rhythm is amazing
Drummer and bassist guitar art just talent, talent in the most natural stage. A round of effusive applauses!
Bruce is The Boss. You and Mr Springsteen are my legends!
Nhlanhla Nene you love your Bruces!
2022,many years later, I still love this song. I guess that’s just the way it is.
I love this so much, man I would pay serious money for this experience
Incredible performance!!!!!
Bruce, and his many bands are my CHURCH and my renewal . I've worked on guitars for many world famous folks.
THIS guy and this band light me up / makes me feel joy/ and any degree of hope I might have left to hang on to. ALL these tunes are stellar. As I've always said about Bruce and his band memebers: "LOOK AT ALL THAT TALENT, AND LOOK AT ALL THOSE SMILES". ALL audiences get it,m and smile and laugh too.
Rest in Power Leasean Parish Jones
A great bunch of extremely talented musicians, one of the best versions of an already amazing original!
I agree - I was floored by this version and I loved this song in the first place. They are jamming and taking their cue from his exuberant, passionate piano playing. Incredible.
Love it - keyboards are awesome!!
Where to start on the majesty of this.
OH MY that B3 solo !! if you knew how hard it is to get a rhythmic sound like this ... such a fine player ( nice change up to a incredible piano composition). John J.T. Thomas. just looked him up... has the creds , chops and passion.Lucky me to land on this channel today...Im'a going to sneak another listen
Oh man...that bass intro at 1.30 and new drums rythm...👌👌🔝
I like when Bruce makes that little hiccup at 5:05 and then incorporates that into his solo a few seconds later. Nice cover!
WOW!!!! just WOW
That was a JAM! Great performance, as always!
Bruce...I love to watch you play the piano...really you are the best...!!!🎹🎹🎹❤️❤️❤️
I never seen such greatly Pianist....Master Bruce Hornsby deserves the best of the best....
this melody lasts a thousand years.. 💙
Just awesome..👌
What a band.
Dayum, that was goood ☺️
Gosh, such wonderful artistry by all in this live version.
That Ending has made the hair stand up on my arms since I first saw it in 2004! That guitar solo and tone gives me shivers!
One concert I wish I’d been at ♥️♥️♥️

Un fucking real!! If Bruce played with Mark Knoffler for an intro/outro... it would make world peace or blow up everything that we all know
This man is an underrated legend!! 🎹🌹
Only a deaf would undderrate Bruce 😁
Best live version ever.!!!!!!!!!
Are you sure about that? Check out Way it is tour 86-87 album. That live cut is pretty damn close to the album and so is the other tracks. There’s scenes from the Southside tour playlist on here too that version and tracks are pretty good also along with Hornsby and the range live during the night on the town tour 1990 on here as well all three versions are better than this. He’s still good but his material and live shows have become way too jazzy for me. I prefer his more pop mainstream commercial sound that he had with his four and five piece band the range.
@IzzyFizzy Thought as much !!!!
When I first heard this song I was four, in a dept store with my mum, listening in amazement. Three years later, I was learning Piano and loving it but not quite understanding why! Thirty-three more years later, I am a full time musician still in love with playing and performing. So I guess I owe you a high five Bruce Hornsby, a HUGE high five! Love you man, thank you for doing what you do! I hope you are great and can still feel fondly about all the amazing things you have achieved along the way. It was the greatest honour to be introduced to such a beautiful artform by such a beautiful person and performer. Thank you thank you thank you Bruce, will remember that moment forever! Amazing band too ;)
Wow what a genius Bruce Hornsby love his music
Killer version
Bruce Hornsby and the Range takes me back to my youth….love this song. The piano work, drums, the lyrics, those familiar chords and instrumentation… which drives it to its finish. Timeless. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿NZ
Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here ..
Brilliant song! Even better live.
Always loved this song 😍👏👏
So great ! Regards from France 🇫🇷
Love this! "Here Come The Noisemakers" has been my number-one-go-to-album for decades - What a group of amazing talent that have become like one thought over the years.
Cobra Kai Never Die
Very good band.
I love this mans music, Hope I get to see him live before I die
I am 63 and me too. Unfortunately, travel for musicians has killed this summer for everyone.
And with the way America has lost its mind-please don't visit Canada this year! Not until you decide on using some common sense-wear a mask.
Cheers, from Toronto ☮
Stedman Band He is spectacular live!
Well, let's put it this way, Stedman. If you don't see him before you die, you will probably get something a lot like this AFTER anyway. There is a little bit of heaven in the music, is there not? Thanks be to the immensely inspiring and loving Holy Spirit, whose multitude of works we can hardly even begin to understand....
WOW what a treat! Breathed new life into BH's classic song.
Anytime...anywhere...just the way it's..sound pretty good Bruce....!!!!!
WHAT AN AWESOME PERFORMANCE GREAT TO SEE ALL THE BAND ENJOYING THEMSELVES.
I learned to write music and decided to make the piano my instrument of choice I credit Bruce for having birthed the gift of music in me. Thank you Mr, Hornsby.Tim E wood
I had forgotten how good Bruce Hornsby & the Range are..👏👏👏👏
The Range? This is The Noisemakers.
An enjoyable version of this famous song.
Original piano version's still got me good.
Yeah, I was hoping to hear mainly piano in a Live version and not a bunch of guitars to drown out the sound of a beautiful piano..but I'm not one to hate this, this is 'ok'. Either way, I've always loved the song. It just completely relaxes me and makes me happy for some reason. Yeah I'll upload a good live piano version of it I just found, I downloaded it and changed the speed of it to pretty much match the original; the live version's speed was too fast. There ya go =) czcams.com/video/PXLxuz4GCG8/video.html
Absolutely fantastic!
Huge arrangement! Great songs live forever!
Awesome - best version ever
Reminds me of my dad I sob every time I here it, in a good way. Night dad xx

He's amazing. He seems to just try new things, and the band is SOOOOOO good they just pick up on it and it becomes this classic arrangement - that perhaps never existed before that moment!
Every song a thing of excitement!
