I absolutely love this book and I love the Dragon Republic even more. I can't wait for the spoilery review.
Is the dragon republic really better? Thou I enjoyed the poppy war, I just sorta dropped the series.
Ezzaldeen oh 100% in my opinion i was kinda apprehensive coz of middle book syndrome BUT it really knocked me out of the park (even more than the poppy war did)
I’ve just started reading this book and needed a non-spoilerly, contextualizing review and this was it. Thank you. I can’t wait to get back after I finish the book to watch the review you mentioned that has spoilers in it ❤
I absolute love The Poppy War!! One of my absolute favorite books ever. I also started to love Rin quite quickly! Something about her makes her so compelling, and even though she does some awful things, it’s easy to root for her, imo. The book overall is written in a way where I couldn’t put it down, and it gets better after the initial few chapters, I think. However, the third part of the book caught me off guard even though I read the trigger warnings. It was one of the most devastating things I’ve read. It was handled well by Rebecca Kuang though, and she portrayed the tragedy accurately, from what I’ve read about it.
Overall, it’s definitely a book I’d recommend (as long as you’re in the right mental space/have seen the trigger warnings). I would give it an 11/10 honestly, haha.
Thank you so much for the review, I've been wanting to read the Poppy War for a long time
yesss this is one of my favourite books of the year and has really got me into adult fantasy this year!! totally agree with all your thoughts, im the same in that i can't watch gory scenes but im okay in books but i so appreciated in here that it wasn't gratuitous. Can't wait to watch your gush!
I hope to get to this one very soon! Great review!
omggg I really want to read this series I absolutely can't wait to buy and read it especially after this review
YESSS I am ready to GUSH about this series!!
I'm so glad you finally read it and enjoyed it! : )
Love this trilogy so much! Can’t wait for the final book... already have it preordered!
This ended up being one of my favorite books I've read this year, except I may like the 2nd one even more! I can't wait for the new one to come out in November.
I haven't read this and I don't think I ever will (basically because of the trigger warnings on it) but it fascinates me and I like seeing how people who have very varied taste in books usually all seem to find it enjoyable.
I have actually read a lot about the historical events that inspired it (I didn't use to be as bothered) which is how I know this isn't for me. I can somehow manage better with graphic violence when it's in nonfiction than in fiction, although I still dislike it.
Anyway, one of these days I'll probably go ahead and spoil myself on all the spoilers, but I really enjoy seeing what different kinds of people get out of this one!
I have this book and have been putting it off. I keep hearing so many great things about it. After this, I might just have to pick it up and read it next.
i’m so glad you loved it, it’s completely unlike anything i’ve ever read. i haven’t grabbed the second book yet but you’ve definitely reminded me to make it a priority. great review sam!
I've been looking for more adult fantasy novels. thanks for sharing and THANK YOU so much for the trigger warning. It's super helpful to ensure I'm in the right headspace before picking it up.
you're welcome!
i need to read this!!!!
Just finished the book a few hours ago and loved it. What a wild ride but sooo well done. As an history and archaeology student the descriptions of war didn't unsettle me as much as they probably should (I've read a lot about stuff like that, the history of humankind is s dark place 😅), but I enjoyed how the author portraits war and what it does to people. There's nothing glorious about it. It's brutal, gruesome and shows how human's nature takes terrifying dark turns.
i have decided to get this book hehe. thank you
Ums I'm really excited about reading this book, I'm so glad you did the review 😊 I'm not so sure about the warnings, I have no issue with gore or violence but I have problems when the violence is focus on women or girls. We'll see. Right now I'm trying to reduce my tbr (my goal for 2020). I don't comment too much but I love your channel, I enjoy so much your content🎸
thank you :)
I think I'm gonna give it a shot thnx💕
How crazy that your reviewing this cause I just downloaded this on audible
good timing!
I'm so glad u like it! TDR is even better, u're in for a ride
I'm in the middle of this book and it went from a 5 to a 3 for me and I'm really....really hoping it picks back up for me. I'm pattering around reviews hoping that it motivates to finish it ^^"
One of my favorite books ever!!
This looks like a great book, Sam 📚
woop, There it goes, high on my tbr !

Wtf... On the triggers. I'm gonna take your word for it. Thank you for reading it so I don't have to... Love Love your channel!
thank you!
POTENTIAL SPOILER: I read this book last year or two years ago. I don’t know. All the years seem to be one big jumble now. I couldn’t get past the abrupt change from the school setting to the starting of the war. It took me out of the book, and I had a difficult time re-engaging. Of course, this is how it would be in real life. One minute everything’s normal and the next your life is turned upside down. I think I may listen to the audiobook. I definitely think it deserves a second shot. Thanks for the review 😊
I'd rather u didn't say there's no romance plot. Just as you were surprised, I'm sure some of us would like to be surprised it didn't go in that direction. Thanks for the review
(MAY CONTAIN A MILD SPOILER)
I am just beginning to read it and didn't understand someting. At chapter 2, did the child that Rin saw on the street get killed by the driver of the rickshaw?
No I believe they just got seriously injured cos tutor feyrik said that it’s smart to run if you cripple someone
yea, the tutor said it’s smart to kill the child so he doesn’t have to pay for the recovery for the rest of his life
I don't know anything about that sino Japanese war which happened in actual. Will i still get the book? Can I read it without knowing anything about it?
You don't need to know anything about it before going un
