20 years later, I’m watching this, and it’s hitting home. I wasn’t in Iraq but I was in Afghanistan almost 10 years now.
Did ur grandson ASK
@@claudiaclaudia936 No grand kids yet lol, still young
Same here Marine.. I was an Abrams TC with Army 1-64 Armor during Thunder Run 20030405, took 2 tries to get up Hwy 8. Lost a LOT of Battle Buds over there. I can't imagine trying to deal with today's bullshit.
Thanks for your Buddy- Oorah

I was but I wouldn't want to have been in Afghanistan .and yes just grateful my 21 year old son has yet to make me a grandpa yet but captain spot on ,but I'll be on my deathbed before I tell him the truth😢
I work a normal civilian job now. But I look at my time in Iraq, 06-08, 1st CAV, and I realize that was one of the most important periods of my life. I am thankful for those experiences and the friendships that I made. It took a lot of readjustment once I came home, but ultimately I am a much better person because of it.
Thank you for your service. Please be well and take care.
thank u brother
Idk why people say ''thank you for your service''. After all, it wasn't you that planned to invade a independent country. You were forced. I feel sorry for you and all of your friends that died for nothing.
@@War_Gaming_RUS Funny words from a Russian person. Look at your history of invading countries with no reasons.

I was in 5th grade in 2001. Fast forward to 2014 I was deployed to Afghanistan. Crazy to think how long this conflict went on for.
bruh are u still alive ?
Thank you for your service. I hope you’re well now. Please take care.
Damn i feel old lol..thank you for your services
Haha Afghanistan. So how was it to hear that you lost the war and a lot of your friends died in vain?
@@War_Gaming_RUS Umm, yeah, and Russkies won there..? You guys got your asses kicked during Winter War, Continuation War, Afganistan, and now in Ukraine.. 😄

I had been working as an interpreter with U.S Army in iraq Especially at the Mosul's Airport for up to 4 years from the year of 2007 _ 2011 ,

Still can't understand why the shit they bombed Iraq
regardless of how anyone feels about the Iraq war, our troops we're still there and had to obey orders so no matter what, much respect to all service members and thank you for your bravery and courage, love y'all
you lied to invade iraq !...you destroyed a cohesive and controlling secular stable regime !...you caused a chaos and an occupation resistance war !...you provoked intentionally a sectarian war to make the iraqis fight each other rather than fighting the occupation , and unfortunately you succeeded !...you caused an atrocity that massacred at least 500,000 iraqi people !....
and after all that , somehow you are the good guys !؟ , and somehow you are convinced that you could make the iranians abandon their nuclear , missiles and chemical programs , so you can do it again !؟
Lol ever heard of the Nuremberg trials. There excuse was I was just following orders. They still were hung.
@@Jack-oz4bf Lol ever notice that the guys who were hung were the losers of the war?
@@talebdaas Wasn't Saddam the one who murdered people's family members for talking bad against the government? Not to mention SKUD missiles are classed as WMDs and Saddam had a nuclear reactor along with the fact that Isreal has been hit by tons of SKUDs sent by Saddam.

I remember how Iraqi people were so happy and friendly with the American troops in 2003..Iraqi people used to welcome American troops and invite them for feasts in the rural areas..

We still have troops in Iraq.
We all did.

Great intro, understanding as a conquering power he's is responsible for maintaining a sense of law, order and governance to the best of his abilities. Something missing in the early days of the Iraq war.
That’s because in “the early days” it was about killing people and breaking shit which is what the early days of war are Supposed to be about! Damn!
That war was so unnecessary all based on a lie
Actually l remember it to this day ,some odd reason l miss that country

I was there in 03 and no matter what the local natives and jundis told us we ( my platoon). Never trusted a word they said, we left that up to our rupert, who thankfully was a tour wise already
The General at the beginning of the video is General Richard Natonski.

I was 5 years old when Iraq was invaded.I don't remember it like you since I was too young to even understand what was happening at the time.I do however remember seeing and hearing about the Iraq war on the news.I even remember seeing 9/11 on the news.Anyway im 20 now and going to enlist soon.
I was six when they captured Saddam. I remember my dad telling me that a coworker of his (who is now my boss) was very happy when it happened. He and his brother and parents are Iraqi, they spent quite a lot of time on the run, hiding in caves, only coming out at night, using grenades to catch fish on the occasion.
I think I was as well about 11 or 12 I think I'm 31 one now. Time flies, nothing has changed though. Still can't stop watching these videos.
Does it seem like the troops were wearing less gear or something here? I've just been watching a lot of war videos from Iraq and Afghanistan, and it seems that by 2008 - 2012, everyone was wearing twice as much gear... Idk, I'm just a lowly civilian!! Thank you for your service... the videos I've seen, though they can never compare to the real deal, have definitely provided a lot of insight into the hell that you guys endured...
Yeah, it's because this video was early on in the war before the insurgency came and different kinds of weapons were introduced and the Marines had to adapt. In some other early videos, you'll see Marines riding in Humvees with no armor or even doors since IEDs weren't a problem yet. Merely adaptation is what it is.
I don’t think so, I’m a bit of an equipment buff (also civilian) but I think they might be wearing more here than they do now, I think your confusion might come from a lot of newer gear and clothing is a bit more bulky because it has more internal padding, now a days everything is on a modular system using plate carriers and packs, back then it was flak vests with web gear and Alice rucks, also they had to carry chemical suits and masks back then, they definitely carry more today and in early Iraq war period than in Vietnam. Still to this day it shocks me how little those guys actually carried, just seemed like nothing but ammo and some water
Post invasion 2003 was still different
Early on in the war, you can tell by the uniforms and equipment. Im a civilian who has never served and I can tell you that.
ACU's, for the Army, began being phased in in 2005 I believe. I was in Baghdad 2004-2005. My unit still had the Tri Color Desert uniforms and the green camo (woodland) IBA. New guys came to my unit toward the end of the tour and they had the tri color desert IBA as well as the DCU's. In 2005 after we got home we began having to wear the ACU's.
I think woodland camo BDUs and PASGTS looked way better than ACUs and ACH helmets. I don't like digital camo and ACH helmets look too small.
ACUs sucked, they literally blended in with nothing
Lol that guy at 38:45 us straight up speaking Maltese, very rare language. Surprised to hear it come out the mouth of a US Marine.
First thing I said when I hear him speak

20-30 years from now that kids still fighting the same fight
Because the MARPAT had not been fully phased in at that time. When I went to Iraq in March of 03, I had two sets of desert BDU's and one MARPAT. Hope this helps.
My cousin was there in 03 also. Fought and died in the battle of Nasiriyah

The "ACU" was first introduced in 2004, some Army units started wearing them in 2005, and about around 2006-2007 the "ACU" comepletly phased in all Army units! I used to live on Ft. Bragg in NC, so I know! I myself is enlisting in the Marines in a few months!

I believe that was Lt. Col. Pappas at the beginning. I was there with "C" co. 1st platoon in 2003. And just so you know, this footage is the camera man hanging around the com/log element. A lot of it seems pretty nonchalant, because they are within secured areas where the line platoons are operating nearby. C company was not there for long, just march thru june LAVcommander, but we were there for 4 months, not weeks. this film follows the command not the main force of "c" co and Tarawa.

I was there in 05 , and just the sound of that apc made my legs start to hurt , by far the worst part of OIF and was those long rides in a convoy of APC and hummies , digging in every night and back in the metal box with wheels. , They did do there job and got us from to our objective safe and sore as hell I always thought of them as a mechanised grunt , not pretty , never gives up and when the suck came they were ready get some and some more than the next day , again and again , no complaining doing it's duty and what it was made for just like a USMC grunt, the devil dog kennel. good to know you guys were as bored as the army after the push to Baghdad i was 1/64 armor 2bct
Pretty weird to think that this was going on whilst I was one month old.
The main reason they are so lax is because they are a reserve unit and not an active unit such as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd LAR. I served in 1st LAR and it was nothing like this for us. Also, this was around the first invasion when the insurgency hadn't really begun. They were thinking more conventional and became complacent after. My unit was extremely strict with everything and we carried way more gear. With being an active unit and with changes after the invasion we were way more disciplined.
That T64 hasnt moved since 91...lol

That Iraqi Man At 10:06 Earns My Respected
i havent found anything posted from artillery yet
I realize this is from 2003. This video was very odd to me. Why were none of these guys carrying a full combat load of ammo, grenades etc.? Why did the radio guy only have a pistol, and looked like he was wearing a flight suit? I know it's the Marines, but their load bearing gear, flashlights, K-bar, flaks look like they were vintage Viet Nam era equipment.
That was just kinda how the Marines were. Old gear. Even in boot camp and MCT in 2005 we had old 60s and 70s gear. When I was there in 2006-2007 we wore flight suits because they were supposed to be more flame retardant (roadside bombs) than the regular marpat utilities. Then in 2008-2009 we were issued FROG gear to wear both in vehicles and on foot patrols. I remember getting yelled at for leasing a patrol and letting Marines wear regular cammies despite PCC and PCI…SMH. Even between the 2 deployments our flak jackets were MUCH deferent. They became heavier and bulkier. “PPE prevents proper engagement”….. oh and the flashlights with the 90° angle are still common and definitely have their uses to stay relevant to todays warfighters needs. As far as a full combat load goes, idk what the ROEs were. This is some sort of LAV unit. I read up in the comments they were reservists, so that could have something to do with it. I was active duty AAV and we had a minimum ammo requirement wether we were in vehicles or on foot. Most of us carried 6 or more magazines plus the one IN the rifle and SAW gunner had 300 round and then A gunner would have maybe 200 more. Hope that explains some stuff.
God honor their sacrificed and keep them all.safe home in Jesus name amen
