Na China clone as you all say, and the real deal are identical and made in the same place. China just pissed on the patent like always and sells it under the table as off brand. Funny part is they stamp made in japan/ct china-taiwan is what the st part is!
Good deal man, I just started playing with these carbs recently and appreciate the content. I bought the "Chikuni" intentionally, but will likely go to the real one next. Subbed and liked man, keep it coming!
The genuine idle screw and fuel/air mixture screw are what looks to be copper or gold colored and idle screw has a spring on it, and they're on the side,..where the copy the mixture screw is on the bottom and the idle screw is small, silver and imbedded in the carb !!
Red Beards Garage did a Carb comparison video of 4 different carbs and the vm22 chinese carb made the most power of all the carbs because they are actually 26mm and out performed the Real vm22 Mikuini. He was doing it on an engine dyno....
Thank you for making this video. We ordered a Mikuni VM22 and received the Chinese one as well. We can not get it to idle correctly and I watched a ton of tuning videos and they all show an idle screw and I'm like WTF mine doesn't have a idle screw.
The chinese mikuni vm 22 has an air mixture screw on the opposite side of choke.. then a feul screw under the intake manifold side of carb. Not the air filter side its on bottom..
I knew there was something up when I got mine from Amazon the air screw and slip screw I tried adjusting them and they would not even change the idle it stayed the same and the throttle we had to modify it to work thanks for the video
I got a mikuni carb on my honda rebel 125 and its really old but it looks like the fake one. But the air intake is like bigger and not quite shaped like that and the fuel intake valve is bigger and it just looks different.
Funny thing, the clone VM22 looks a lot like these Keihin PD/PTG carburetors. If you compare these two they are almost the same. Even the jets are the same. Both of them have a 26mm diameter to the part where it connects to the intake pipe but in reality they are 22mm. I don't know if the Mikuni one packs better performance than the Keihin-clone one. Here in Greece these Mikunis are sold as "XT125 type"
Did you jet the carburetor or did you leave it stock? I just got a new mv-22 carburetor and it was popping at full throttle so I put in a 135 jet and it cleared it right up perfect 👍🏻
Curious how that turned out. A 135 seems large for 22. I'd go 120 at most. More like 110 or even just a 105. I run Chinese though. Same performance, quarter of the price.
@@tjtj3027 what is really messed up is they have lots of reviews saying how happy they are with purchase and some saying it's genuine, but its not it say Japan T/A on it, doesn't have not for aircraft use. It's surprising how many people can't tell the difference and your the only video I can find actually explaining the difference
Honestly if you are dealing with a stock to stage one engine then both carbs are awesome. I believe the genuine one is a little more performance oriented but they both start on the first pull. Both will run some good RPMs and they are both pretty tunable. The slide on the genuine one is bigger and the opening for the air filter side is bigger. Like I said with a mostly stock motor you'll be perfectly fine saving some cash and running the Chinese.
There’s only one thing, if you go to Red Beard’s Garage. He Dino test Both the clone and the original and on these motors the clone put out almost a full horsepower more it’s because the original is a big body carburetor made for a motorcycle. Anyway ride safe
I ordered two for both my mini bikes, and now neither one of the carbs will idle. And when they get warm they will not start again. I’ve cleaned the jets and added new fuel lines and fresh gas. Do you have a link to the GENUINE mikuni carbs?
Same I order the go power sports straight pipe and air filter and I put it on started it once didn’t start again even when I put all the stock things back on including gaskets
I believe the genuine has more flow capabilities if you're going all out. If you're dealing with a mostly stock engine then you don't NEED the genuine. They're both good carbs.
Could be true. I could see them being "related" but definitely are not the exact same. The way I see it is like Honda vs Acura or Toyota vs Lexus. All the same company just different.
@@tjtj3027 Can you recommend where to find tuning info for the chinese model ? They dont even tell us which way the choke lever is suppose to be for the run position, up or down ?
@@daretolive9357 down should be the choke position and up for run. It should be already tuned from go power sports for a fairly stock engine. I'm pretty sure they sell different jets if you need more turning. These are very adjustable as is with the slide clip adjustments. How can they legally sell counterfeit parts?!!! They don't perform the same cause the Chinese counterfit does not have an idle screw and can not be adjusted.
The idle screw is on the opposite side of the choke. It's a Phillips head screw in the side of the carb. The mixture screw is on the bottom of the bowl.
@@tjtj3027 I'm going to try to adjust that screw again. Last attempt had no effect on idle speed coming down. Screwing it in brought engine speed up but maybe I didn't back it out enough. Thanks for your help anyway! Great video
