- In this Walk & Talk I take you on a circular loop around Woldingham, Surrey. Woldingham is located near Caterham and Warlingham and I was fortunate to film it on a beautiful autumn day, in between some very wet weather we had at the time.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch this video.

I lived in Woldingham for many years, I still walk there weekly and will never get bored it 💚
It’s a wonderful place, it has a bit of everything!
I lived in Garden Village for a few years when I was about 10. I walked Madeira Walk so many times and your video went right past the bungalow we lived in although it is now a huge chalet bungalow. Then you walked down the bridle path I took every day to catch a bus to school. Thank you for the wonderful memories. I’m a long time retired now and live in Queensland.
Thank you Susan, I’m so glad it connected with some great memories for you. I’m planning some more walks in the surrounding countryside - we just need some decent weather over here!
Lovely walk nice part of the world I've not seen before cheers Phil. We certainly have a beautiful country that perhaps not appreciated
Need a cuppa after that walk
I too came off my bike on than corner when I was about 16! Wonderful Woldingham, I miss it terribly. My mum and sister are still there although I'm on the other side of the world now. The walk right over the top of the village and then down through Gangers woods and through the School is fantastic with some amazing views.
I'm glad I wasn't alone, David! I will probably do a winter walk in that area, as you say it is great for views.
Very interesting and scenic walk. I used to live in Purley before I moved abroad but i don't ever recall going to Woldingham even though it was so close. It is so nice to see the English countryside. Have you ever done a walk around Farthing Downs and Happy Valley?
I’m glad it provided that English countryside experience! I filmed a walk on Farthing Downs with one of the Ranger team (Tom), here is the link: Farthing Downs - Walk & Talk Special

Good evening Phil. What a very pleasant, quiet place to live. My wife and I often visit the Knights at Woldingham and across the road from there, especially during the warm days of Summer, we're often lucky to view Buzzards and Red Kites soaring on the thermals rising from the valley. The church depicted early in the video, St. Paul's Church with Agatha, is where I believe Katie Price and Peter Andre were married. Great video. Thank you.
Thanks Gary, there have been quite a few celebs over the years, I remember seeing Davina McCall at Sainsbury’s in Warlingham once! It is a very pleasant area for sure
Have been enjoying your videos, being a South Croydon/Sanderstead Resident :)
I’m glad to hear it! I have plans to revisit there to cover more areas of interest, things keep cropping up all the time 👍🏻
I thought the "old" in Woldingham was pronounced like old in hold and told, not like the "alled" walled. Is that the local pronunciation? I'm a Lancastrian living down here in the vicinity. I want to be correct.
Definitely “old”, that’s all I’ve ever heard in terms of pronunciation. Warlingham is nearby but that is definitely “war”!
@philswallow But you pronounced it Walledingham several times. I thought I had it wrong. I get loads of place names in the south wrong only to be corrected later, e.g. Plaistow, Isleworth, Leigh and others.
@youngmurphy7556 it must be the way I speak or the way it comes across. 100% “old” sound. I just repeated it to myself several times (in the safety of my home) and I am sure I am saying “Wold” but could see/hear how it could be heard as “Walled”. But to avoid any issues if you say “Wold” anywhere in this part of the country you will be spot on!
Love all the colours. I saw the Hop Pole but I was always told there are no pubs in Woldingham as the land had a covenant on it to stop pubs being built for the navvies building the railways? And still stands. Was the pub forced to close?
I never visited Woldingham as it was where all the rich kids lived :)
Lovely video. Still looks posh. All that block paving costs more than my house!!!
Correct, no pubs. The Hop Pole is the name of the stores but sounds like it should have been the name of a pub!
But there is the Woldingham Village Club on Upper Court Road, just off Station Road. Although it's officially a club, I don't think they object to random punters dropping in for a drink, as I did a a few months ago.

It was definitely a pub- it was closed down and became the local stores when William Gilford , a tee totaler, bought the entire parish - what you see in Woldingham today is a very rare planned late victorian village - Gilford also owned part of Chelsham Parish and Warlingham.
looks nice still 😂my old boss had one massive house 🏠 there 😂posh tit 😂
