UK Weekend Breaks | SURREY | Box Hill, North Downs Way, Greensand Way, Reigate Hill

- čas přidán 1. 06. 2021
- Discover the gorgeous English countryside of Surrey, just outside of London.
This is the first in a new series of short films showing off weekend breaks around the UK.
The silver lining of this last year is that it's encouraged me to explore more of my own backyard, whilst the borders for travellling are shut.
Gradually I'll be showing off more "staycations" around the country, but I thought what better to start off than by showing what's right on my front door, just outside of Redhill, Surrey where I live.
The three walks shown are:
- Redhill - Gatton Park - Reigate Hill - Colley Hill
- Dorking - Stepping Stones - Box Hill - Northdowns Way to Colley Hill - down to Reigate
- Dorking - Greensand Way via Brockham, Betworth to Reigate

Hope everyone enjoys the new video. This is the first one I've shot on my new Sony A7siii camera, so make sure your playback settings are set to 4K :)
Next episode in Dorset was actually filmed BEFORE I got the new camera, but after that it'll be 4K non-stop.
Looking forward to having loads more practice with the new kit, improving the quality and seeing the results :)
It's all good 👍 the best you have done .. Now u ave 4k.... When doing HDR... Lol what a load of 💩💩💩... Good film is not the pixel count... It's the way u shoot it... And u and I know the filming don't make the 🍿🍿🍿🎥🎥🎥🎥
It doesn't matter if it's a trip to a foreign country or right in his backyard karl ALWAYS makes really fun and uplifting videos.
Cheers Brandon :)
I am NEVER disappointed in your films. The UK really is a little slice of paradise.
Thanks very much :)
UK is so underrated . It's so beautiful ❤️
I can see how touring your backyard may be boring but for someone who lives halfway across the word in NYC, it's quite enjoyable
It's not an official Karl Watson Video without at least a couple of beers and a few Lord of the Rings references. Loved it!!
Haha cheers :)
I was born in redhill, its amazing how much nature and walks we really do have local too us, always take advantage of it at every spare moment you get!
Yeah I’m lucky to live here 😊
I am so happy to see you back with your travels. Cheers from Kansas USA
Thanks 😊👍
Loved the video, just returned from a weekend in surrey hills myself, so many beautiful walks around there. ❤
I rarely comment, but I was looking to go to University of Surrey as an international student, and you cannot imagine my reaction when I saw how beautiful Surrey was. I am also a photographer, and something tells me it will be magical
Thanks, Karl for a great tour of Surrey. I never realized how much open countryside there was around there. Good tour, thanks! Please have more exposed legs in the future. 🦵🤓
Hk2NY to the country side of UK...
I HAVE travelled the world with u karl ❤️
U r like a family 😊
That’s very sweet, thanks 😊
Thank you for this. I grew up on Box Hill and really miss the serene Surrey countryside now that I live in Chicago.
Great Travels !!!
Great video Karl. Good to see Chris Back!
Yep was so much fun filming with him again :)
Thanks Karl for another great video, greetings from the Netherlands.
Cheers John :)
great video & loving these UK weekend breaks series! thanks for showing us around 🍻
Cheers :)
I know the area so well and it looks so fine in your high definition video. Apart from Stepping Stones up to Box Hill I have not walked to the pubs, just used the Triumph Herald convertible, Cortina III Estate, Reliant Scimitar and more.
This video just makes me wish here in Australia everything was close enough that we could go on a "pub walk". The mix of nature and beer sounds intriguing.
Karl your hair looks spectacular
Haha cheers
Nice video planning to visit the UK Spring 2022
I'm going to be honest, I enjoy all your videos, but the ones you've done travelling around the UK are my favourite. I am an Aussie who secretly believes my spiritual home is anywhere in the UK so I'm probably very biased. Thanks for keeping me entertained while I am unable to travel :)
Thanks Dianna 😊
Loved these two videos, I lived in Horley and went secondary school in Redill many many moons ago. Camped with the Girl Guides in a tin hut on Reigate Hil for an Easter Weekend. And my first home as a married lady was on the Reigate Redhill border.
Lovely. I did my pilgrimage across the same route last summer too.
Thank you @KarlWatson for this Incredible video. Learning England 🏴 through you.
Gracias 🙏
Thanks 😊
Loved the country pub 🍻 crawl that was fun
A great watch 👍👍A tremendous start to the new Series. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Paul :)
4yrs ago we stayed in a beautiful cottage next to Gatton golf course and stables, early mornings whilst sat outside having a cup of tea the early riders would clip clop past the gate and a little robin would come sit on the wooden chair. The other birds would all march up and across the telephone wires. Magical
Nice little documentary, also been exploring more of my surroundings since the pandemic. Great to see Chris again!
Cheers Dave 👍
That was exactly what I needed today, thank you. We’re still pretty restricted where I live in Canada, so I’m also making more of an effort to discover the local area.
Thanks Heather glad you enjoyed it
Honestly, I’d take your 15-second walk to the next pub over 99% of travel content on CZcams
Haha thanks 😊🍻
I feel this. Ive spent so much time trying to find decent travel channels on CZcams with no luck. I’m only subscribed to Karl and suitcase monkey.
@@jeeb looks like I’m checking out Suitcase Monkey this evening!
@@jeeb just watched his “Japan 2” video and the first half was eerily familiar. Our itineraries were very similar, plus he shot his on a smartphone like I did!
Whoaa, what a nice suprise to get a great video from you today, i'm watching it on my tv and got to say, the quality is outstanding - and i'm loving the countryside. Cheers
Thanks very much! Glad people are noticing the difference with the new camera. Although the Dorset video was actually shot before this with my old camera 😊
@@karlwatsondocs i was almost about asking, what camera have you used for this? It was almost hdr like 😅
@@oldestpartofheaven it is HDR. Shot on the Sony A7siii
@@karlwatsondocs wow, that explains a lot 😁 the colors were really brilliant 👍
Great video Karl.
Valuable life lesson - Mum always knows better no matter how old you are. :)
True :)
Love it. We always take for granted what’s on our doorstep.
So true 😊
I literally do, I live at the bottom of Reigate Hill, yet hardly ever go there!
Very enjoyable video, always great to explore what's in your backyard!
Cheers :)
Class mate!
Cheers 😊
Hi Karl, what a coincidence, I was just watching this video half an hour ago with my friend as we were planning to visit Box Hill tomorrow, and I just saw you on South Croydon station. Time stamp 05-May23 @ 22:35
Cheers mate, thanks for saying hello 😊 enjoy Box hill 👍
Beautiful places. Rolling hills so lovely landscapes of Britain!
He's back! Top man
Cheers Kevin :)
Love this 😀❤ ... I'm actually going for a walk this weekend to see the local sites because of this video! Feeling inspired mate!
Nice one! :)
This pandemic has led us to discover so many beautiful hikes and walks in our own little town. It's amazing how much a place has to offer. Wonderful episode as always.
Thanks 😊
Love your friendships cool guys. You look like Hugh Grant in his younger times:-). Thanks for sharing your video. I cycled Boxhill from London return with my Brompton love the area so beautiful
Karl come to Norfolk! We have The Norfolk Broads, many nice beaches, and Norwich itself which is a beautiful city. Horsey beach is particularly nice and is known for the amount of seals that chill on the beach! We've got Pub & Paddle where you do a pub crawl from one pub to another in a canoe, there are loads of fun things to do and see around here. Kayaking on the broads is particularly nice, we'll hit you up! Bring James too 😉
Cheers for suggestion Rob, sounds great. I’ll make a note of it, like i said in the video will just depend on timings as to when I’ll get round to different parts of the country 😊👍
@@karlwatsondocs yeah all good mate, if you do get time it is well worth a visit! I can recommend all the best places and things to do - robfenton94@hotmail.com
Yo the quality of the video and editing is top notch. Your hometown looks super peaceful and beautiful.
Thanks :)
That was awesome, thank you.
Thanks :)
Cheers karl your style of editing and putting these together shines through once again keep up the hard work 👏👏👏
Thanks very much :)
Quality mate! Was born in redhill. Living in Scotland these days so amazing having a look at the old walks we used to do. Thanks. Keep the good travel vids up 👍🏻
Cheers 😊👍
Always inspiring videos, never had the chance to go to UK, but now can get a good insight. Nice series. Looking forward to the next.
Thanks 😊
love this ,, pub crawl ,, awesome ..
Cheers 🍻
Good to see u back 👍👍
Just what I needed! Thank you for the awesome video! I love the UK. I was lucky to be able walk the South Downs Way years ago. I'd love to return to do more.
Thanks Carolyn 😊
We never appreciate what's on our doorstep. Great vid Karl, greetings from Newcastle!
Cheers! :)
Haha "Don't worry Chris it's only 200m above sea level" Loved the video! It was nice to see Chris in another video
Thanks 😊 was great fun filming with Chris again
Moved away from England 3 years ago and this video made me miss home!
Really enjoyed watching it and look forward to the next one 🙂
Thanks Helen :)
Hi Karl. First of all, what a lovely video. Second, what a beautiful and peaceful neiģhbourd you have. That nature park, the stable and the sunset view from up the hill. Some things that money cant buy. One just need to experience.. Someday after the end of this current pandemic, whenever i get a chance to visit London, i would definitely keep a day or two to personally visit these places.
Thanks! Yeah make sure you get out of London when visiting the uk 😊
Awesome vid mate - they never dissapoint! Keep them coming!
Cheers 😊
Cool video! Have been waiting for this! Thanks, Karl!
Cheers 😊
Loved it ❤❤
Another awesome video, thank you! I'm looking forward to the next one in my own backyard of Dorset :)
Thanks, hopefully have that online for next week, will see how I do
New quality looked beautiful Karl! Brilliant video as always my man
Thanks 😊👍
OMG Karl yes! I live in Essex (work and entertain myself in London) and had the same geographic awakening. Now me and my sons go exploring the woods, or to the not-so-touristy beaches. We also found a bluebell forest :). I love this series already!
Thanks! It’s great discovering whats around you 😊
👍🏻 well done. I didn’t think I would move today after yesterday’s beer session.
But now I got inspired to go for a hike
Haha nice 👍
You walked right through my old boarding school! Royal Alexandra & Albert in Gatton Park. Lovely part of the world, beats London any day. You picked a good place to live mate
Cheers! Yeah walked through that school a million times now as it’s on the North Downs Way
Hated it at the time but realise how lucky I was now that I'm older. I'm born and bred London so was a shock to the system as an 8 year old turning up there. You brought back some memories as we used to do cross country up to Collie Hill all the time
Excited to see Dorset!!! ☺
love it - excellent : )
I live in Dorking, always good to just sit up on Boxhill to overlook the town.
Great Video Karl. Love it.
Cheers buddy 👍
Wow! cool you have that as your backyard
Yep I love it :)
loved all the air cuts
Fk sake that 'remember what Bilbo used to say' had me spat out my drink all over my keyboard... thanks alot.
Fantastic video! We’ve done the same here, exploring the Dollis valley green walk and a local reservoir.
Nice 😊👍
Yes Karl mate, Soon be back to international travels! Keep up the good work buddy 🍻
Cheers mate :)
Loved this..note to self explore my own backyard lol I might do that trail myself if the weather remains sunny. Looks lush.
Yeah make sure you do :)
Snake? In Reigate? Brilliant idea to do more of these inbetween your travels; more for us to look forward to.
Cheers Emma :)
Cracking that mate, what a pub crawl that is.
Cheers 🍻
Nicely done mate! Enjoyed this!
Cheers buddy 😊
Another great video! My family goes to Skimmington Castle every year for a christmas lunch/ drinks meet-up. A great little pub that one.
I bet their Christmas menu is amazing!! :)
you are doing a great job i love this
Thanks :)
love the edit and the energy, no need to go to halfway round the world for a great vid, good friday night on youtube with the new vid here in swedem keep postiong =)
Cheers 😊
I enjoyed the excursion! I loved the wildlife except for the snake. ( it was creepy. What was it?) I loved the snow geese. The beautiful flowers, especially the bluebells. Looks like you are a beer connoisseur:-)
Finally a video from the only and only legend ! Search the entire internet but I bet you can't find a better travel content maker than Karl Watson !
Thanks very much! :)
Me: "Let's go for a lovely nature walk through the English countryside!"
Karl Watson: "Did someone say country walk pub crawl?"
Haha! 😊🍻
Love your videos.
Thanks 😊
I live in Redhill too!! Nice place to stay, its the walks and surrounding area that kept me here. From Reigate hill can lead you to Leith Hill which has a circular walks and its fun and a few more. Love the drone shots. New subscriber too lol.
Cheers! Yeah Leith Hill is another good spot :)
So disappointing........only 36 minutes long!! Great video Karl, looking forward to the next one.
Haha cheers :)
Great new series, so cool to actually see places in your videos that I know, like Coley Hill and that London skyline view (you had an amazing clear day for it) but at the same time I never knew about Greensand Way, so might explore that next with my kids 😀
Yeah it's a good one reckon they'll love it, but like I said in the video remember to bring instructions as it's not clearly signposted.
@@karlwatsondocs yes, will bare that in mind, lately I’ve been using AllTrails app and it’s really helpful on finding and following public footpaths
@@LondonViewpoints yeah love that app :)
Hey man that new camera set up is so good! Great video, my dad always has a go about me travelling and tells me that England has everything you need. That's not exactly true but you've highlighted some great spots in the south. We still got you beat up here in the North though 😉 on a side note if you're anywhere near a lidl they've got saigon beer in this week for 99p a bottle. Not exactly as cheap as in country but a nice little drink to trigger some nostalgia!
Haven’t got any Lidl’s near me I don’t think. But yeah looking forward to showing off the north where I grew up in future videos 😊👍
loving your videos...and tge accent 🥰
Nice tracky daks Karl!!!
Ha! Thanks
Much needed im bored out of my mind here in London
Oh, the "Karl Watson: Hiking Documentaries" rebranding~ Pumped for that! 😁
Edit: I do wonder if this won't just turn into a "best pubs of the UK" series, haha~
Haha there will be a lot of hiking, although not in ALL of them. The next video was actually shot before this, so the pubs weren't even open :)
Thinking of doing the North Downs Way with some friends in the near future. We did South Downs Way last year. Looking forward to more UK weekend breaks, hopefully Lake District is on the list 🙏. ☺
Soooo many places on the list, will just see which ones I'll get to first :)
@@karlwatsondocs Whichever place goes first, we will surely look forward to it. Can't wait for the Jurassic coast. ☺
Well look at that, you had a drink at the Prince of Wales, not even a minute's walk from my front door!
A nice walk, easy terrain and not far from London.
Yep pretty much sums it up :)
Been waiting for this 👌🏽
Enjoy 😊
Hey Karl! Nice video - some great shots with the a7siii there. We shoot on the A7C - what do you use in terms of stabilisation? It takes us a few hours to stabilise everything in catalyst browse.
Yeah I decided to just use Active Shot, as it saves time in post and it’s good enough for most things. If I wanna do a more complex moving shot, then I’ll turn it off and sort it in Catalyst Browse.
@@karlwatsondocs thanks for the tip!
Very good, enjoyable. Looking forward to you going to Wales. Pen Llŷn is the place to go.
Thanks for the tip :)
When this popped up yesterday, it was the perfect inspiration for today's hike. alas, it's raining, so I'm watching it again in bed instead!
Really enjoy local videos. Have you been to Newlands corner and The Silent Pool yet. Great views, not too far, and a gin distillery. You may enjoy it there x
Thanks Karen. Yeah been to Newlands corners but haven't checked out the Silent Pool yet. At least the weather looks good for the weekend :)
visit the isle of wight karl .. the views are just as stunning
Yeah have been before but not filmed it 😊
Nice karl
