  • My K5LA Locomotive Airhorn on an Ex Victorian Railways X class, With some echoes at the end that would make the American horn collectors blush!
    Skip forward to 5:58 for one of the best K5 Echoes ive personally ever heard!
    Thanks to some fellow crew members who i was able to organise for this horn to be fitted for a weekend in July 2014.
    This is an Ex Union Pacific K5La I brought a few years back, and this is the first time it has been on a Locomotive, and is also the First ever K5LA on any Locomotive in Victoria, Australia, with Excellent sound Quality and some brilliant echoes through hills and buildings.
    This Horn was temporarily fitted and has since been re fitted with the original Nathan NC P5.
    The end of the video shows Steam Locomotive R707, an Ex Victorian Railways Hudson Steam locomotive, on a Heritage train excursion blowing its whistle with a brilliant echo across the Flinders street Viaduct, in Melbourne Australia
    Special Thanks to Dave and Matt for the Impressive Horn work.

Train's in Australlia and trains in the U.S.A have alot in common, but Australlia is even better, cause when you have steam engines running through the downtown area of a big city, you know it's gonna be spectacular! Adam, a question. I know that the railroads in Vic., don't share US Railroad practices but the one thing is blowing for someone or for a road or grade crossing. I notice that you only blow the horn once where as here we blow 2 longs a short and a long for someone or a road crossing. so the question, why do the railroads in Vic, and elsewhere only blow the one time instead of more of a warning, thus giving more notification a train is about to you and also so we can enjoy the horn? Just curious.

    • @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
      @AUSSIETRAINDRIVER  Před 10 lety +9

      Jim the Standard in Victoria is a minimum of one long, one short before each crossing. But any more is at the descretion of the driver/engineer, If the trains prescence is seen to be un noticed or ignored by animals or people on or near the line, using the horn more frequently is required. after all it could save someones life, or keep the locomotive crew safe or out of jail when an investigation takes place after an accident.
      The sound of a long whistle should be distinct, and used in
      proportion to the distance at which the whistle is required to be
      heard.

    • @Scotford_Maconochie
      @Scotford_Maconochie Před 5 lety

      The 2 engineers at the end only blows the horn for no reason. Its running grade separated and there's a very unlikely there's a crew working on track as the train goes.
