  • In today's video I visit the Franciscan order in the town of Sümeg in Hungary who kindly open their doors to share with us how they prepare for Christmas and to express what Christmas means to them and their local community.
In Hungary over 50% of the population class themselves as Catholic, of which the Franciscan order is a small part of that. Often we think of monasteries as secret places hidden behind closed doors, but in Sümeg, it's very much about family and community.
I hope you enjoy this short documentary. Sadly it has been slightly delayed so is a little past Christmas, but if you'd like make the crochet Nativity Scene set I mention for next year you can find it on my website at www.happyberry.co.uk

Edit* For those commenting about Friars and Monks and who lives where, please remember this is a direct translation of the Hungarian language. Hungarian Franciscans do not use these words as they do not speak English. The information I have given is a direct translation of the Hungarian words so may or may not make sense.
