  • Disassembly of the R51 is a pain in the butt but it's even worse when putting the pistol back together. I show you how to do both and I will also show a simple fix to the original Remington magazine.

That is the same disassembly procedure as the old model Remington 51. At first I could not figure it out. So my Dad told me to ask the armorer of His old guerilla outfit in WWII. In just a few seconds, the old soldier took the 51 apart. Both my Dad and his buddy have left us already. This video brought back good memories. Thank you Sir Mixup98!!

Reloading my own and using W231, and adding about.2 grs. of powder, to what I normally load, that solved that issue. Buying the 124 grn. ammo that costs a little more, also found to be very reliable. Wow!! What a pain in the neck. Engineers usually try to make things easier as they develop new firearms/technology. My favorite pistol to disassemble/reassemble is the S&W Model 5946. It is an all metal, heavy, well made pistol that requires no tools, no pulling the trigger and no springs or other pieces that require attention when taking down/putting it back together. I guess some firearms are very different so that makes their disassemble/assemble different but I could never understand why most pistols weren't made more like the 5946. It's simple, quick and intuitive. Thanks for the instruction on the Remington R51. This is definitely not a pistol for a lot of people.

Good demo of the disassembly/reassembly process. Remington used to have a vid on YT that showed the process. The guy who did the takedown and reassemble in that vid must have practiced it about 1000 times to get that smooth at it. I haven't experienced the 7th round issue with either of my mags, but the fix you applied is very simple and I'll keep it in mind if it starts being a problem. I also have yet to have a FTF, FTE, nosedive, stovepipe, or any other stoppage with any configuration of ammo. Mine must not have been made on a Monday. I've put about 200 or so rounds through it. Maybe another 100 and, if there are no problems, I MIGHT consider it for CCW duty.
We're due for a cool-down tomorrow and on the 4th - down in to the low 80s. Don't think we get as warm here as you in sunny southern Nevada do, but low 80s is a bit unusual for early July. Stay safe out there. Cheers.

It is going to hit 102 here on the Fourth, which is actually pretty cool for this time of year. Seems like it is usually 110-114 on July 4th. Have a great 4th and it's always good to hear from you.

Too bad, because the gun is a dream to shoot. Accurate, points well and soaks up recoil well. I have the same model pictured in the video with the grey frame and black slide. It looks very nice. The video misses a crucial piece of advice when taking this pistol down and putting it back together again; have some bandaids handy because you will pinch yourself and bleed a lot. I will never sell this pistol unless the buyer is aware of the problems. I will never carry this pistol for self defense. I will keep it as a range toy and as a magnificent failure. I bought a Russian made camera for the same reason. I would never try and make a living as a photographer with it, but it does get a lot of attention.

You have the patience of a Saint. There are so many problems wrapped up in to 1 gun that it boggles the mind. How this thing made it from concept to production without somebody saying why is this thing so complicated and what are we thinking, is beyond me. Was the extractor rubber ball inspired by an ear plug? It is comically riddled with problems. The reassembly would have made me crazy. Had this design been the 1st concept of a semi auto handgun 150+ yrs ago it still would have been abandoned by most. It's so badly designed I'd be ashamed to sell or even give it to someone that may accidently have to try to defend themselves with it. The lowly Hi Point is an engineering masterpiece next to this thing

@@mixup98 They launched the original model 51 went from 1918-1926 and afterward a few years of parts guns. They made 50,000 + guns in the time it was made. It was a slightly different gun made in 32 ACP and 380 ACP. It shared a lot of the same ridiculously tedious disassembly/reassembly system but no rubber ball under the extractor and a few other changes. You would think they would have learned from this gun but no, let's make it even more difficult and create a quasi-model 51 in 9mm. Good review. I, too, did the same to my three mags to give them more room, but the gun has been absolutely 💯. On reassembly, I use my little finger to align the barrel. Then, push it ahead approximately ⅛" and rotate slightly, and it'll stay forward, allowing the breach block to simply drop in. Once it's in, rotate it back, push it forward, grab the end, invert the frame, and it will slide on, as easy as it came off! It's so easy, I've done it with my eyes closed many times!

I understand that they had a recall on the first one before 2016. So if you have one you should write or contact Remington. It seems the problem mainly is that extractor cushion if you could call it that. Instead of a spring. Does anybody know who might make a spring that'll fit in there? By the way I took it apart and put it back together again and I didn't use one foul word. It is it was actually easy for me after your video which was excellent thank you. Thank goodness to God he took care of my sinful problems when I gave my heart to him. It's always possible for me to lose patience with some things but to cuss and throw the thing out the window no. Just remember Peter after he denied Jesus thrice the third denial after the woman told him that surely thou art one of them thy speech betrayeth thee. At that time he wept sorely because he knew that the bad language the cursing that he used was a sin. Christians don't use foul language after they get saved. Maybe a few words here and there after they get saved accidentally. But after a little while God washes us clean of that kind of language. I can hit my head on the corner of a table or whatever and there's no s-word that comes out or there's no f word anymore. Thank God for salvation. Since it's Christmas time I invite you to think about your soul reader. If you are saying that you are a Christian and you're doing things that are against the commandments that Jesus put down then you don't love him according to the Bible. Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments. In the same chapter he says that my commandments are not grievous. The hypocritical preachers out there today are making it impossible for you to believe this I know but the word of God says that you must depart from iniquity. Let him that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. Behold old things are passed away All things become new. Romans chapter 6 verse 1 says shall we continue in sin that Grace May abound. God forbid how shall we that are dead to sin live any longer there in. God will help you to live right he promises us that. There has no temptation taken you that such as is common to man that with the temptation God will make a way for you to bear it. That doesn't mean give into it that means he will help you through the temptation if you want to be helped that is. Just remember Jesus died on the cross he suffered and bled and suffered much pain to save us from our sin not in it. These false religious professors are giving you a license to carry around with you in your back pocket that allows you to commit sin and go to heaven. Your conscience bears witness with you if you have one left anyway that this is false. Jesus knows the way ask and Merry Christmas

You'll still have a bit of a fight on your hands but less frustration and a better pistol.
