      I guess only time will tell, but I bought two DC HOUSE LiFePO4 batteries about 6 months ago and they are still holding capacity like when I first got them. They were the cheapest ones at the time and I just needed 200ah for my RV residential refrigerator at the time. I am sure the expensive ones are better, but by how much? 3x or 4x better? No. If I can get 10 years out of them I will be more than happy with it.

    The manufacturer labels Amp Hours because that is what people know. The measurement for capacity is standardized for Watt Hours.

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Right. Everything is labed 12.8v and amp hour. Some batteries though have the watt hour listed too.

    Test could be skewed due to crazy inductive loads. Both inverter and AC unit will cause hi frequency spikes of current drawn from battery. Most meters don't see those. I believe using a pure resistive load is the best way. Use 12 volt DC water heater element(s) would be the best way. Must put elements in circulating water bath!

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  Před 2 měsíci +1

    What amps was your first test that got 102kwh? Batteries are normally rated at a 0.2C discharge so for rating a 100kwh the rating is at a discharge amps of 20. Your test shown was almost 50a or 0.5C so would expect a small drop in delivered capacity.
    As others have said would be good to see a tear down.
    Thus is what I think LiFPo4 batteries should cost but still seems too good to be true.

    • @jasonbroom7147
      @jasonbroom7147 Před 6 měsíci +2

      This is a 100ah battery with a 12.8v nominal voltage. That means it should store 1,280 watt hours. That is 1.28kwh. You would needs 78 of these batteries to equal 100kwh. You're right about testing at .2C, if you want to see full capacity. At this price, I would be happy with anything better than 95% of the rated number, but most of the time really cheap batteries like this one are built with resleeved used cells.

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@jasonbroom7147 I think it's 2 part.
      American companies need/want a much higher profit margin from a product. Think Apple that charges $40 for a wall charger they source from China for 18 cents. There is some/few good reasons for that, but most of it's just to raise stock prices.
      Small chinese companies are now figuring out they can cut some of the middleman out and selling on Amazon. In this case think TEMU.
      But those companies charging $800 for a 12.8v 100ah LiFePO4 battery are just looking for the most profit they can squeeze and passing some of that to the marketing department to sell those.
      There has to be a middle ground there where you get a good product for a good price. That is probably about $250 I would say.

      The inverter is at most 95% efficient. And the AC is at most 70% efficient but probably in the 50-65% range. So basing the expectation from BTU to watt calculations the results were correct.
