I will say this is a VERY important topic; because it has to COME out of the primitive time. The KEY to all of this is honestly!!!! We have been raised in most household as a relationship is one on one. When we as human can and able to LOVE, HAVE FEELING, ETC for more than one person. Thanks for the topic

Men/husbands don’t want to open marriages up because just like with everything else woman end up being better at the game than their egos can handle. Bloop!

You know MALES think they have MASTERED the relationship thang. But women can be more HONEST if we choose to; but most people don't think people can have more than one lover, partner, etc

@justUs podcast Ooh Wee yall have really only touched the surface with this topic. As an avid traveler and explorer of other cultures and religions, I often wondered are our thoughts a true representation of us as women or our Western Civilization cultural norms. We often say we are a product of our environment and a lot of how we think and things we do are a direct result of how we were raised at home, in church, taught in school, etc. This very topic was a thought that occurred to me on my first trip to the UAE back in 2014; where I did a tour and was told that men could have as many wives as they could afford as long as they could provide for them equally. I was told, the government pays for their first home after marriage and it is customary that the man has on average 3 to 4 wives; yet, adultery is illegal and punishable by law. So me as a territorial, protective woman I wonder would being Muslim and living perhaps in Dubai give me a sudden desire to want to share that which I cleave to and have become one with? For me, Ion't thank so!!!! But do these women, who have known this style of life to be a societal norm ever desire monogamy?

I LOVE this episode! To see two AMAZING women with so much knowledge and influence share discourse around a topic that they don't necessarily partake in with such class and grace is SO refreshing! I absolutely LOVE IT HERE! Thank you for holding space for all of humanity! As a married woman that some would deem traditional coupled with a love of lifelong learning I am thrilled that you continue to take up space in such an intentional way. THANK YOU!

17:26 I’m with Margo! I’m not judging or shaming anyone for how they decide to manage their relationships/lives. BUT…Where do the non-monogamous find the time to nuture a relationship with multiple people, especially if you all dont live in the same home?

Warren Buffett had an "unconventional" marriage. He started dating his second wife while he was still married to his first wife. They met in the 70s and didn't marry until 2006, after his first wife passed away in 2004. Supposedly, his first wife introduced them. Apparently, the trio even sent out Christmas cards signed "Warren, Susie and Astrid.

To the STI discussion, many folks in this lifestyle take PREP to ensure they don't contract HIV, have birth conrol to ensure no unwanted pregnancies, and figure most everything else is treatable and consider it a risk they are willing to take.

I think it is good (as the person with monogamous intentions) to have open and continuous communication and understanding with potential partners about said intentions. Then it is up to the potential partners to choose to be in a relationship with said person.
This is always one of the first things I lay on the table. If this is a deal breaker then that person is just not for me.
Ethical monogamy is having the hard conversations, negotiating (and sometimes renegotiating) the terms of your relationships and everyone being onboard and having their needs met.

It took my brain a while to digest the difference between polyamory and polygamy (a la Sister Wives). The latter has the community factor as it applies to running a household and raising children. I can actually see how some can find value in this from that perspective. Not for me but I can understand it.

Because discussing and agreeing to an open relationship is in direct conflict with his understanding of himself : he is a loving devoted husband who just get swept away by passion. Again and again. He doesn’t MEAN to cheat. So agreeing to an open marriage and laying down ground rules is exactly the opposite of what he wants.

    • @judieannozine
      @judieannozine Před měsícem +2

B side: if the marriage is open - that means the wife can step out as well.

Polygamy is actually legal marriage..where a man marries more that one wives....the other is not marriage it’s just both partner has multiple partners no legal joining

very pretentious humans. we select the things that are of the least value to us to "open". no one "opens" their bank account to the public, no one wants a home without doors and windows, yet "love " is claimed to be "OH! pen". Disguising our wounds.

really nothing to add because every time I wanted to comment you spoke in that legal way I'm familiar with my husband, in the sense that you cover your "well when they ask this im gonna hit them with the big joker" to make sure you get your "big 3 (points/statements)" across and the other person not speaking at the time chimed in with what I wanted to add lol great episode.
Being in an open relationship has made my relationship stronger in ways, with the amount of communication and how that's made the uncomfortable conversations easier to address when it comes to *just us* two (see what I did there?), though I'm still working on my delivery as I can be direct AF.
It's not an extended hall pass or permission to cheat because there's still rules and boundaries that are in place. You both spoke on "how do you have the time?" "What about STI's?" and a few other questions along there and all of those are the reason why I ask people to forget what they see on TV because some of us are picky (Ace here) and it's more like "you have the option to explore if you find yourself in a position AND want to because I don't own you." We are in bed early these days and up early with full schedules these days and it started as a third on occasion. I'm older and my husbands first relationship and thats going on 14 years, married 7. It's shifted to travel open...together or separate. Great episode.
