    • @Gungho73
      @Gungho73 Před 5 měsíci

      @@yukikimura8204 The number one thing about that team offensively to me that made it successful that year was it understood its parts as well as any team in history. Its tackles offered great protection on 7 step drops because both had great lateral movement which allowed Cam to go deep into the pocket and see the field more effectively reducing some of his wild aggressively off and wild misfires. This strategy also allowed a wide receiver core to attack the middle of the field, and because no wideout was considered a number one option coming into the season it allowed for true 1v1 matchups and negated the benefit of the recent trend of drafting high power lockdown corners to set the defensive chessboard across the league. Which was balanced by the fact that teams wanted to attack this run offense, which was physical to begin with without a bowling ball x factor in Newton in the redzone. Which is where one of the best centers came in, and a physical set of guards allowed them to stuff the ball down opponents throats. They weren't the best lineman across the board, but they understood what they needed to do to excel in their offense well understanding gap control (both blocking run/pass defense schemes, and guiding defensive lineman "free" to allow Newton to achieve optimal 1v1 run matchups when exiting the pocket). Their 3rd down conversion rate was consistent at home and away vs some of the other high powered teams like Arizona (iirc a near 8 percent difference which is huge) that year, which was a much bigger factor, which indicates their coaching staffs initial scratch, or first 15 plays scripted to set the offense for later success, was made well understanding their opponents, with the ability to adapt before the opposing defense corrected.
      The team, the staff, and players worked together well in summary not because of the ??? coming into the season, but the maximizing of the best aspects of the talent there and the almost alarming level of self confidence it brewed. Its in hindsight a shame they went against Denver, with multiple rushers who would win 1v1 deep rush matchups, and a secondary that could win matchups on their own without having to run specific guide/follow schemes on a top receiver. That was their worst matchup specifically for them they could get that season, especially when you could feel that confidence begin to crater. Fun team to watch, hated to watch them win ^_^

    Those 2011 Packers were one wild case. One of the greatest individual QB seasons ever, one of the greatest team offenses ever, but they also were the absolute worst in defensive yards allowed that season, allowing nearly 5,000 passing yards in particular. However, their 38 takeaways led the league and they also fancied a +24 turnover differential. 118 of their 560 points that season came off of defensive takeaways (21%).
    The defense's major claim to fame that season went absent in the Divisonal Round. The league-leading takeaway defense only forced one turnover, and the YPG problem for the Packers finally ended up being their undoing, allowing 420 yards to the Giants, with Manning airing it out for 330 yards.
    The Packers offense also ended up dropping 6 passes that game, a fifth of the total amount of drops they had throughout that entire regular season, and lost the turnover battle 4-1, the only time all season they lost the turnover battle.

      The 2018 Chiefs were similar. Top in the league in both points scored and yards gained, but fifth-worst in both points and yards allowed.
      Yet the 2012 Saints were the real champions of bipolar offense and defense. They were no. 1 in the league in terms of yards gained (7474), but if every team that played against them counted as one team, then the anti-Saints would've been no. 2 in the league in terms of yards gained (7042). That's a special achievement. 👏

      Not to mention that the 2011 Packers became the first 15-1 team to not win a playoff game. An argument could be made that this was Aaron Rodgers’ best chance to win a second ring.

That game, the 2015 collapse against Seattle, and the 2021 loss to Tampa Bay in which they allowed another Hail Mary right before halftime, were Rodgers’s three best chances to get a second ring in Green Bay.

      The Packers defense forced 38 turnovers that season, setting up their offense well (as someone else in the comments said, over a fifth of the Packers points came off Turnovers). The Saints defense were the second lowest in the league with 16 forced. Their defense was mainly ok at keeping offenses out of the end zone. The Saints averaged more yards per play and more points per drive while starting with worse field position and having a few less drives to work with. I think they’re 1A and 1B, if not the Saints being slightly better.

    So let's see 1 time has the #1 offense won it all and 3 the #1 defense? What I take from this is balance is key. You can't rely on getting into shootouts to win in the playoffs and you have to be able to score. It takes too much luck to win with just one or the other. Even the Chiefs last year neededd a strip sack and a huge punt return setting up a short field touchdown to beat Philly. Be good on both sides of the ball instead of elite on just one.

    If saying defense wins championships as opposed to offenses then I would agree but other than that, I think there should be a huge asterisk next to that statement because that was something you would hear more often back in the early to mid 2000s (when teams could actually hit & be aggressive on defense) Now the league is more geared towards high powered offenses making it far. If you look at which teams have been in the conference championships & superbowls in the past 5 seasons just about every one of them had dynamic offenses - Brady on the buccs & pats, Mahomes with & without Tyreek then Kelce, Rams with Stafford, OBJ & Kupp, Eagles with their outstanding O line, Hurts & AJ Brown, etc..

Wasn't the end of the game, wasn't a long play, and many other reasons why this is alarming to me. I've been noticing many instances of players, I don't want to say "giving up on plays" because "acting like they are playing" fits better for what is being witnessed but odd enough "moving as if computer generated" is even more fitting.

    The 2021 cowboys only had more points than the Bucs because they had a bunch more defensive tds.
    The biggest flaw with scoring ranks is that they included both sides.
    So defenses are penalized more for having bad offenses that turn the ball over into points and offenses get extra credit for good defenses that create points off of turnovers.

    Please do a video on Top 10 pick WRs and whether they actually impact their team’s Super Bowl appearances. I have a theory that first round WRs rarely make the Super Bowl. At least with their original team. I know it’s happened but it’s rare. So why draft a WR in the first round?

    • @fortynights1513
      @fortynights1513 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Also, I’ve noticed that receivers who get 1,500 yards rarely get rings in the same season.
      It’s so far just Charley Hennigan in 1961 for the Oilers in the AFL, Michael Irvin in 1995 for Dallas, Victor Cruz in 2011 for the Giants, and Cooper Kupp for the Rams in 2021.
      My theory is that your passing game can get predictable and easier to disrupt if you are throwing to one target (and likely one side of the field) too often.

      @@Josh_StringerJulio didn’t have 1,500 yards in 2016 (1,409). In fact his two best yardage totals were 1,871 in 2015, and 1,677 in 2018.
      The former was for an 8-8 team that had a 21st ranked offense and the latter was for a 7-9 team with a tenth ranked offense.
      In retrospect, the 2012 team that lost the NFC Championship Game to the 49ers probably had the most well rounded receiving corps Atlanta had in those years.
      Roddy White had 1,351 yards, Julio had 1,198 yards, and Tony Gonzalez had 930 as a third target.
      In 2016, after Julio’s 1,409 yards, Mohamed Sanu had 653 yards as a second target.
      No knock on Julio Jones, who is an easy Hall of Famer, and made the All Decade Team, but it’s the way it turned out.

      @@fortynights1513 Man, those are some deep cut stats! Love it. I find it fascinating when you look at actual data (like you've presented) and check that up against wins and losses, particularly playoffs and super bowls. There's very little correlation. • @fortynights1513
      @fortynights1513 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@Josh_StringerThis is also why I argue that the success of the team shouldn’t be considered a factor when judging whether a receiver belongs in Canton.
      In just the last 25 years, we’ve seen Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Cris Carter, Andre Johnson, Antonio Brown, and Steve Smith put up at least borderline Hall of Fame careers and none have Super Bowl titles.
      And if you want to include tight end targets, you can add Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, and Jason Witten to that list.
      As for Kyle Pitts and Drake London, they seem like solid targets from what I can tell (London slightly better this year of those two), but not players you’d hope a first round pick would become.
