I believe he implied that it was just more nuanced than believing those kind of concepts are as black and white as “all or nothing”. He’s obviously been dealing with a lot since then thats hard to articulate in a short video, but his “empathy bar” getting filled the way it did evidently has a lot to do with him coming face-to-face with his viewership. Something pretty intense has obviously happened to him.

Maybe, but not everything has to be viewed so cynically. A lot of people’s humour has changed substantially since 2016. I was edgy, immature, and childish then and I look back on it with some embarrassment. People change and they reflect on their past.
The ONLY reason I don't subscribe to the idea of this man experiencing "personal growth" and doing a complete 180 of values, has not so much to do with the actual change in content. If I don't like the videos he makes, I don't have to watch them. Plain and simple. Rather, my issues lay with how he only started championing these "politically correct" values when the """edgy""" humor ceased to be a viable source of $$$. I think your first comment summs the Ian situation pretty much, we're transitioning to a world where you no longer have the freedom of consequences of groups of people taking what's been said as a joke personally. However I find his videos are funny, comedic and repulsive at times, it may be overly edgy sure, but we need variety on YT, if you've read 1984 by Orwell we're coming closer to that state everyday and you can see it on social media censoring things as they become "offensive" to certain groups and must be censored so someone doesn't get in a lawsuit.

I loved the absurdity of the old idubbbz videos. He did things that I, and most normal people would never have the guts to do or say, especially in public. What I love about this is that I’ve noticed most CZcamsrs that played a role in my teenage years have grown up and matured just like I have. It’s wholesome and I love it. It makes me not feel as weird for maturing. Seems like we live in a world that promotes immaturity and it’s a crime to own up to mistakes and actually grow up. I’m proud of you Ian!
For me personally who's been watching you since the very beginning. The most entertaining bits were never really the takedowns or the name calling but the skits you would do in-between. To this day, I still burst out laughing at you pouring peaches in your mouth in a sewer or doing McDonald's reviews in your car but the shot is from outside. That was gold and it showed that your humor extends beyond the meanness.

Watching this video feels like a part of my less-than-socially-well-adjusted years came to a very neat close. It's never too late to gain a sense of empathy for other people.
