- This is the track saw I have been using for about an year. It make straight cuts and is at a price that hobbyist can afford. It will cut as straight as the track you use. This saw can be used with the Festool track but I find the Powertec works perfect. It is very durable as I was dropped it several times and still functions perfect.

I have the exact same setup down to the vacuum switch. I also had the intention of upgrading to a Festool saw down the road, if a track saw became a main part of my workflow. I see no reason to upgrade. This was a giant step up from using my old worm drive construction saw and a straight edge to break down sheet goods. With that said, the track saw will not be replacing my cabinet saw ever! Table saw is just better and faster, if you can complete the work safely. Track saw is very handy for cuts like you did in the video, and breaking down sheet goods. I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on a Festool. There are very established woodworkers on CZcams that use a high dollar Festool to make oversized plywood cuts, only to take them to a table saw to cut accurately, lol.

I own two sizes of the WEN saw and purchased the WEN track, the PowerTec track and a,ready had a Festool track and found that the WEN track is perfectly fine. I enjoyed your vid. Scott
Thanks for the feedback. I just finished cutting a butcher block countertop with mine. It worked flawlessly and had a better cut than the factory edge. I am not sure what more a person would want in a tracksaw, but I guess if I had money to burn or cared if I impressed other people, I would but a Festool.
Awesome thank you. Was thinking of adding a set of the PowerTec rails to my setup (Makita) as a dedicated 8 foot rail. Wasn't sure of the quality though. Impressive saw from Wen though too, I didn't expect that. Your videos continue to improve, hopefully you're seeing more traffic and results. Thanks again!
If I could find one without having to pay oversize shipping I would get the Makita 194367-7. The Powertec has worked good for me. I am glad people can tell I am trying to improve my videos. I have a new laptop and camera ordered. I hope that will help. I posted my first video 6 years ago. In March I had 900 subscribers I am at over 2100. I don't know how to express it but is humbling thinking about that many people listening to my Ramblings.😀

Thanks for giving a one year update on your use of the wen.
Dust collection was one of the main factors in my decision to buy a tracksaw. I mulled a lot over it and ultimately decided on the festool ts55 feq (I may have mentioned that in your other tracksaw videos). Most definitely an expensive tool, but after using it I have no regrets. It's just an excellent saw all around.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Festool. I do so many different things. I buy different tools every week. Sometimes I may only only use them a few times. I try to find tools that work at a reasonable price. If I find I use it often I will buy a higher end tool. I haven't been able to justify a Festool yet. Almost a couple of times. One day I am sure I will get a few.
@@ShopRamblings As much as I love my festool tracksaw, the tool from them I value the most is the ETS EC 150/5. For years I used sanders with basic sanding discs and dust collection. The ETS with good dust extraction is nearly dust free. Waiting for the tool to be justified is a good way to not end up with buyer's remorse.
@@NWGR I had planned on buying a Rotex a few months ago. Something came up. I like that it has a hard backer plate.
Do you have any experience with the difference between the ets 3 and the 5?
@@ShopRamblings A rotex 90 is on my short list. The rotex lineup is great for fast material removal.
From everything I read online and from what owners of both said on places like reddit and FOG, is that the 5mm stroke can do everything the 3mm can and give you the same surface finish quality the 3mm can, just faster. You'd just have to be more careful with more delicate surfaces to make sure you don't burn through whatever you're sanding.
In my use, it really hasn't been an issue. The 5mm stoke will get you through your sanding process a lot quicker, which is more important to me than the very few instances where I'd be worrying about sanding through something. There's variable speed to ease up on the aggressiveness.
One advantage to the 3mm stroke though, is that you can save some cash by purchasing the ets ec 125/3 and the 150 pad will fit it, so you could essentially have both a 5" and 6" sander for the cost of a 5" sander and 6" pad. That said, I haven't really run into any instances where I wished I had a 5" sander over a 6" one.
The hard pad is the only one I use on my 150/5. If I need a softer pad I just use the thin or thick interface pads. It's been a great setup.
I watched a show from festool about sanders. I never knew about hard and soft backers. I 3D printed a hard backer for one of my sanders.it worked great but did not hold up. I have printed a new one out of better material, I have not had a chance to test it out. I also bought some interface pads. It is amazing how the accessories make such a difference.

Not the best money can buy, but the best you can buy without spending 2-3times the amount.
I am thinking about buying the 7.25" version. Don't need the extra depth, but I like the other upgraded features on it.
I recently bought the battery power version. They both work great.
I have your setup but upgraded to the Makita b-07353 blade which is excellent. But I don’t have the auto start for dust collection so I may add that in the future. Thanks for your videos!
That is a good blade. I will concider getting it but so far the Wen is standing up better than expected. I hit a screw the first time I used it but it hasn't seems to effect the cut.
I may have missed it but do you have the CT1065 10-Amp 6.5-Inch or the CT1272 12-Amp 7-1/4-Inch WEN. They both look a lot alike. Thanks. and Great video - very helpful as Im trying to find an affordable track saw set up
I have the 6.5". It has worked great, but it takes a metric blade that is hard to find. If I buy another one, it will be the 7 1/4" one.
My WEN does a great job. The track is so so which I will prolly upgrade.

Ive used the Wen track to build soffits and cabinets and it works perfectly.l No need to upgrade in my opinion
I did upgrade to the Wen cordless track saw but still use the Powertec track.

Correction you description says 71505 55 on the link but when it takes you to Amazon it’s for the 71387 11
It is the same track for all Wen, festool, and Mikita. Powertec has them all listed in one listing. Look under the picture and you can see the different options. They all fit the Wen. Powertec has separate listing for Dewalt.

What am I missing?!? I got the Wen track and...no problems so far. I put a none-stick pad on the bottom, but I ALWAYS use holders anyway, so..what am I missing? Why is it "inferior"???Why is the Powerteck "better"? I don't get it.
On everything else, yeah, right on. If anything I might critique, "jesus, Wen, why not white-painted numbers?!?" But I understand their new saws have those...?
I'm in the Bosch and Ridgid battery line, but I hate proprietary crap, so...yeah, I'm screwed. Both of them have VERY proprieteray tracks, even though Bosch seems to be able to work on both, so...I will wait until Bosch makes a 6 1/2, instead of their...5 1/2??? Seriously? Come on Bosch...21st century, and all that.... Still, the have router bases that work on their tracks, for both their 1/2 in routers and palm routers. Expensive as hell, but...still...
The Wen track may work for you. I have had good luck with the Power Tec track.
I know what you mean about not wanting to get into another battery line. I bought the Wen cordless saw. It works extremely well. It is like the Makita and uses two batteries. It is cheap enough and works well enough for me to justify it.
I have the cordless Wen with the 110" track and the track is perfectly fine, I have not had one problem with anything yet.

track saws are junk
They are not for everyone. I use my table saw or miter saw for 99% of the cuts I make. Sometimes I find a track saw the better option. That is why I don't want to spend any more than I have to but still want straight cuts when I do use one.
They serve a real purpose, you clearly just don't have enough knowledge or experience to know that.

@@colemahaney4208 Honestly man I don't know what to tell you. This is a tool like any other and it has real world applications. Anyone who doesn't have a cabinet saw but needs to break down sheet goods with any degree of accuracy is going to find value in a track saw. Anyone who's shop is mobile is going to find value in a track saw. Professionals and hobbyists across the planet use these tools but I guess they should all just stop now because one guy on the internet thinks they are junk. SAD
Is the best option if you dont have a jumbo jointer, right now i need cut 3.7 meters of wood, this is the perfect tool for that. Also there is people that dont own a table saw and only work with track saws and guess what, they work perfect. See the Peter Millard videos...
