      I've had better use with the older legos , the newer ones aren't as precise? So they tend to leak more.
      Also you can use toilet paper tubes for long pieces, making them a 1 cut mold :)

    These just blew my mind. As someone who would have no problem keeping halloween around all year, I always look forward to your videos. I wont have time to make these this year :-( I made a couple of your props from last halloween but now between working, homeschooling, and everything else, it would be alot easier for me to just purchase these. I will keep a lookout for when they are available :-)

    I once got a ping-pong ball, split it, and placed a glass marble in each half to get the same desired result. Granted the marbles weren't the exact fit, but it still did the job. I like how clean this looks.

    Have you thought about making Follow-me head busts like those at Disneyland's Haunted House? They use a reverse cast (or hollow) head inset in a cove (so you don't see past a certain point) to create that effect. And second question: Would a reverse cast of an eye also work as a follow-me eye? The eye really needs an iris to make it look more realistic... could a reversed eye do that?

    • @raymitchell9736
      @raymitchell9736 Před 4 lety +5

      Honestly... the more I think about it... how would you make a hollow head casting? Sound like it _should_ be easy . . . but I'll bet it isn't. -- And the entire head following you is perhaps more creepy than just the eyes?

    • @MonsterTutorials
      @MonsterTutorials  Před 4 lety +8

      Not that difficult. It’s the same process of making a plaster mold for latex masks from a clay sculpture. The resulting mold is a reverse cast.

    • @raymitchell9736
      @raymitchell9736 Před 4 lety +4

      @@MonsterTutorials Yes, I can picture that, but then there's got to be more to it, painting, etc... making the hollow head has to be displayed at a special angle, etc... besides I haven't been able to find a tutorial on it! Maybe you can make one? 😁 I think the effect is amazing, I have always been into Halloween haunted houses, special effects, and prop making ... At 12 years old our family went to Disneyland and I couldn't wait to get into the Haunted Mansion. I was taking a lot of mental notes lingering behind the crowds in the hallway trying to figure how they made the effects... (1) The lightning effects on the paintings (Still want to do that) and (2) those silly busts - At first I thought they had them on motors and were tracking me in a control room, but when I ducked down or walked quickly back and forth, they flawlessly followed me... I couldn't figure out how they had done that... now I know!!! (Of course the ballroom Pepper Ghost and the floating head are neat too) but I'll stick to the first two props since I think I could possibly make those... well, maybe...

    • @seandevine3695
      @seandevine3695 Před 4 lety +1

      Ray Mitchell This is super basic, but it covers the important points. Also, you can just get a cheap vacuum-formed Halloween mask and use the inside, instead of taking a head cast.
      www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Hollow-Face-Illusion/

    • @raymitchell9736
      @raymitchell9736 Před 4 lety +1

      @@seandevine3695 Yes, this is the sort of stuff I'm looking for, this get's you the hollow head, I am thinking of using a Styrofoam head as a form... Also I was thinking of using something other than plaster of Paris, Allen Hopps, (Stiltbeast studios) uses a few plasters, such as Hydrocal-30, to make his mask molds more durable (he doesn't recommend Plaster of Paris) -- This tutorial is very good, it helps, but it is not a finished "product: like those busts in the haunted mansion at Disneyland, to duplicate that effect there are more steps such as trimming the edges but will that weaken the hollow head? That's why I was thinking Hydrocal-30? And maybe painting black the reversed (the positive) side up to the edge you don't want visible, and I know from my research that (A) you need to up-light it to make it look like it is lit from above, (B) they need to be displayed inset into a cove (or something) to prevent seeing them from the angle that will give away the illusion, and maybe there are more details to this?

    Years ago, I had a wooden tribal mask with eye holes and I wanted to attach it to a tree but I didn't want to run fasteners through it. I solved this problem by using large washers fastened to the inside of the eye holes and I drove black screws into the washers to attach the mask to the tree. The screw heads were recessed into the eyes and would appear to follow you, I loved this effect but it really creeped out my friends.

    If you remade the mold, it should work. I’m guessing that the reason it was hazy was from your first casting which did not cure. The uncured resin probably left a thin film inside and when the mold finally cured the finish was no longer smooth. Hope that makes sense. At least that’s my guess at what happened. Great tutorial!!!! Plan on making a few eyes for creatures.
