    "45 minutes... of this." lol Great season opener, Ray. I enjoyed the hell out of this. I didn't know what you meant by foaming when you initially mentioned it, but man when you brought out those foamed masks, what a difference! Great job on the history too. You always make the back story so interesting and it brings so much to the items you're showing. Nicely done as always. Looking forward to another season with you.

    Happy Halloween, Raymond! I've been eagerly awaiting the return of The Basement of Horror; it was well worth the wait. Great episode; very informative, and it brought back fun memories from when I was a kid. I hope we see a cameo from Billy in a future episode.

    I was actually going to post something to your FB page asking about those old thin latex masks you could find at Ben Franklin's and the like. I have such great memories of digging through bins of those back in the late 70's and early '80's and had hoped to find a video showing some. Until your video, I couldn't find anything on CZcams about them and assumed it was likely due to the fact none had survived. It's good to see some did. you should definitely preserve what you have left. Who else besides Bayshore would have made those ultra thin/cheap latex/rubber masks I fondly remember?

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Před 11 měsíci

      I think you probably saw Topstone masks at Ben Franklin. Could have been Bayshore. But Topstone was the king of cheap masks tossed into wire bins at the dime store.

    Very cool! I don't think that I knew that Bayshore was from New Bedford. That's just down the highway from me and we're there fairly often. Awesome to find out that a big part of Halloween history is so local.

It even inspired me to care about Bayshore masks and be on the lookout for them. Also good to know that there are others that like the bag crinkling sound too, lol. You should take the time to foam them all, and trim the rot off to preserve them.

    • @__-wm9lu
      @__-wm9lu Před 11 měsíci

      49:32 Maybe you could even send them all to him to foam if you think it’ll be too daunting.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, it would be very daunting to foam all of these. It would be a summer project, and I would have to just hope that I didn't ruin any of them. The guy who is the best at foaming old masks, Maskahuna, is semi-retired. He doesn't take on many new projects. And if he did foam these, it would easily cost me a grand to do all of them. A grand for masks that have almost no resale value is just not a responsible way to spend my limited funds. If they can all survive until next summer, maybe I can try to foam them myself.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Před 9 měsíci

      No, I wouldn't use any foam from the hardware store for filling masks.

  • @__-wm9lu
    @__-wm9lu Před 11 měsíci

    30:33 why don’t you take out the staples to prevent further rotting

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Před 11 měsíci +1

      In the case of that skull, it seems the staples are not the problem. The rubber is generally aging all over. That's why you see the marbling on the inside. But as for the other masks, most of those staples are heavy duty, industrial style. You can't cut them easily without damaging the surrounding rubber. When I do remove them, I typically have to cut the rubber to get them out. They're not like office staples that you can just bend and pull off. That skull has a different style of fastener, more like a clasp, so I probably could just pop those out.

  • @LannieLord
    @LannieLord Před 9 měsíci

    The great thing about these masks is --- NOBODY has any clue of the REAL value . About 7 years ago - I got a Topstone "classic devil" in , MINT SHAPE at a flea market for $5.00 (!!!!) Also got a deteriorating rubber "Girl Vampire" for $3.00 . Sold it - and the guy that bought it TRIED to "revive" it - but it crumbled.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Před 9 měsíci

      Did you sell the Devil? Most of my masks were purchased cheaply. I wouldn't have been able to build this collection otherwise. People have caught on that Topstone masks are "valuable," though they always mis-price them, trying to get a fortune for worthless masks and selling high-dollar masks for cheap. But people are clueless about Bayshore masks.
