HOW DO VIETNAMESE PEOPLE CELEBRATE THE LUNAR NEW YEAR 2022 (TET)?

- Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet) is the most important holiday for Vietnamese people. People go to shop for flowers on New Year's Eve, redecorate their altars and make sure their house is clean to be ready for the new year. Vietnamese people follow a lot of customs and traditions when it comes to the first day of Tet, such as choosing the first footer, setting up the five fruit tray, avoiding sweeping or breaking anything, etc.
The five fruit tray is an indispensable item on the ancestral altar during Tet holiday. Five different kinds of fruits represent 5 natural elements: metal, wood, water, fire and soil. The five fruit tray also symbolizes the wishes of the homeowner for a good life. Traditional fruits include banana symbolizes family gathering, finger citrons symbolize Buddha's hands protecting the whole family, grapefruits symbolize peace, red dragon fruits symbolize fortune, and papayas symbolize prosperity. In each region, people choose different types of fruits based on its climate, specialities and family’s perception. And the fruits on the tray can be more than five.
The last meal of the year is called "Ăn tất niên". What goes on the table really depends on the family and where you live. For my family, we have xoi gac which is red sweet sticky rice, boiled chicken, chicken glass noodles, bamboo shoots with ribs soup, nem ran or cha gio which is vietnamese fried rolls, jellied meat, traditional square and round sticky rice cakes, banh chung and banh tet.
7 years being abroad definitely taught me to cherish every moment with my family and appreciate what I have and the people who helped become who I am today. I’m grateful for you guys who support me on this journey of making youtube videos. I’d love to stay connected with you so don’t forget to tell me your stories, dm me on my social media:

Van, thank you for your channel. I am Viet American, my dad is from Vietnam and hasn't returned for 40 or so years. I am half Viet and your channel has helped me connect to my roots as I grew up Americanized. If covid allows I am moving to Vietnam. For the time being your channel makes me smile, connect with my ancestors, and learn about myself. I feel proud to be Viet American. Thank you and all the love. I am going to keep binge watching your videos. :) :)
Hope Dad come back Vietnam one time before He fass away
Your dad spoke Vietnamess with you??
What is there to be proud of? Can you elaborate?
Do most Vietnamese-Americans hate the new immigrants from Vietnam??
@@sutannguyen8599 I hope too, and only a little. Thats why I feel uncomfortable and not confident in Vietnamese
@@RollerBladingSuxs not proud of the corrupt communists.
I am from India.....and nowadays I am curious about my neibhouring country Vietnam... Vietnamese people .. food...and their lifestyle.....I am getting valuable information and experiences from your channel....

As an English Teacher teaching Vietnamese students online this video has given me a great insight into your culture and to be able to see the things they are talking to me about. Thank you for this video please keep producing this quality of work absolutely on point
Glad it was helpful! And please don't forget to share this video with your friends and family :))

@@WhatThePho I would assume that you are not a US permanent resident just based on watching several of your YT vlogs. You came as a foreigner student to the US and must now return back. I have a niece from the Philippines that just got her Masters in Religion and is trying to get her OPT to stay in the states for another year. So was wondering what degree did you get during your 7 year stay in the States? I would say your parents must be well off to sent you to school in the States. My niece's parents are above well to do in the Philippines but seems like she likes to stay in the States.
I am so happy when i found an English channel of a Vietnamese person. I want to know more about Vietnamese culture in English
For those people and foreigners who don’t know. Vietnamese culture is a derivative and base on Chinese culture 😃😃😃😊😊😊👍👍👍👍🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳!!!

Thank you for inviting us into your home and sharing your Tet holiday with us. It is an honor so see a family's celebration like this.
It actually brought me back lots of my old memories! Thanks for sharing...
You are always so happy and positive. I'm sure it rubs off on everyone you meet. You always make me smile.
I love watching your videos. Thank you for introducing Vietnamese culture to the world. I learned a lot and appreciate the food, music, people and the culture.I also love your positivity and engertic personality. Keep it up!!!!
Awesome Van ! Your videos which related to Vietnamese traditional culture were really amazing. I'm so proud of you !
Van, you are a fantastic connector from the old country. I wish you many success in your endeavor. It is rare that someone like yourself who is well integrated with the American culture and now comes home to find the beauty in the tradition of our ancestor. I, myself, came back to Vietnam to study the Vietnamese culture and language for ten years, 1990-2009, primarily in Ha Noi. I left Vietnam when I was 12 in 1975 and I came back for the first time in 1989 to find myself so Americanized therefore for the reason to make those years of pilgrimages. I am impressed with the your mission is to introduce the Vietnamese culture to the world and especially to American. One would think 20 years of the American involvement during the war that they would know something about Vietnam...So good luck and you are a breath of fresh air!
I've been enjoying some of your informative presentations... as someone that has been trying to learn Spanish it makes me want to interrupt and say I had never realized what a challenge it is to learn a foreign language and understand things about foreign cultures. I have had close Cantonese friends, that have adopted me as an uncle, for over 30 years now, best friends ever, they have been very gracious and welcoming to me. Just thought I'd say "Hi" (everyone), thanks for sharing, gracias
Thank you so much for letting people around the world know about Vietnam.
You have such optimistic spirit, amazing voice, lovely smile, friendly and down to earth personality. I hope your channel will go a lot further to bring our “Viet” worldwide.

You are a remarkable young lady,I love your videos.I was back to Vietnam in 2016 and really enjoyed my time there.I should say at first I was like very uneasy,I was last there in 1968-1969 and I think I was like did'nt know if people would accept me or not.I was very upset till I arrived and everyone was so nice to me and I was very happy. My last stop was Hanoi and when it came time to leave,I just broke down and did'nt want to leave.I wish you many good days ahead for you and your family,Thank you,Jerry
You did a great job. Just love your video and feel so embarrassed about myself cuz my second language hasn’t been that much good to convey these vibes, this traditional culture to my foreign friends

Great video. I'm learning a lot about Vietnamese culture watching your videos. I'm looking forward to marry my Vietnamese sweetheart, meeting her family and living there. Thank you.
Awesome video thanks for sharing. Agreed boiled chicken with the correct spies and/or chilli sauce is the best.
You bet!
I loved watching this video soo much, thank you 🥰I love how you show your family in Hanoi welcoming in the Lunar New Year; it brings me so much fond memories when I was still living at home. There are not many Vietnamese people in the U.S. here who come from the North so it can be hard for me to relate with - even Viet people - sometimes here. Take for instance, nem ran (fried spring rolls) vs. cha gio (egg rolls). Cha gio is everywhere in the U.S. but I cannot find nem ran - my absolute favorite Tet food - anywhere here besides making it myself 😝
Love your video and your lovely accent!
Thank you for sharing this amazing video em. Xem ma cam thay nho que qua...
Glad you enjoyed this video! Happy new year!
Your video is really amazing.
Love to watch many places in Hanoi.
That reminds me good old days...
Thanks a lot 😊

Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Lunar New Year!
Trời cực thích giọng tiếng anh của bạn luôn á
Your smile makes me smile 🤪
its an interesting clip about the whole Tet of Vietnam. And what is more fun that I recognized you speak Vietnamese in Southern voice as well. Perhaps that's why you have mentioned about many people from South Government that fled to America longtime ago and still not be able to back to Vietnam once.
My boyfriend is Vietnamese, we really really enjoy your channel. We are excited to come visit one of these days💗
Wow! Your channel is so much fun too! Hope to see you guys here in Vietnam soon :))
