- The RALLY LEGEND. In this episode of BEMAR BURNOUT, we see the MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION 6 GSR let loose on the streets.
This car is a flame-spitting monster that sticks to the road like no other, Mitsubishi have outdone themselves and after witnessing this cars might, it is clear that their success in rallying is no accident. Tommi Mäkinen would be proud of this well maintained tuned example.
After the VI's release, newer models of the Evo never seemed to exude the same tenacity and influence over its counterparts, where following the VII the brand fell off the rallying map and left the sport shortly after. The VI's bulky and brutish styling is symbolic of the 90s and early 2000s, with simple yet striking designs that for many of us spark deep nostalgia. During its reign in the 90s, its fabled competition with the Subaru Impreza illuminated the magic of WRC and represented the competition in all its glory. In 1999 this car helped Tommi Mäkinen take his fourth World Rally Championship title during his consecutive reign since 1996, aided by the active differential that was newly introduced for this model, drastically improving performance over imperfect road surfaces.
This car truly represents everything marvelous about rally car driving and represents the last model that the Evo was truly successful in motorsport. That is what makes it such an icon.
