Ok, try to start it that way, after running it for a few hours.
Beside that. Do you have any experience whit those you wear on the back? (might be more comfortable for the back)
And have you ever considered using electrical versions? (not jet strong enough for such trees)
Would be interested as I have only used the kind you have shown and am not sure what might be the right one to get back in the business.

As you perhaps know the U.S. Is experiencing terrible forest fires in our Northwestern states. There is a lot of discussion as to whether clearing underbrush and thinning trees is a good way to prevent these huge fires. Do you have an opinion?
Gary McCoy My grandpa worked for the forestry service. I remember he said they use burn the under brush as well doing some other things like cutting fire breaks. THIS WAS IN FL WHERE THE BRUSH SO THICK NOW YOU CAN STICK YOUR ARM STRAIGHT AND THE BRUSH WILL SUPPORT IT SOME AREAS.
This an exclent option for preventing or reducing the force of wild fires. The thining of trees and cut of underbrush are extensibly used and highly recomended by experts and good results have been observed. The use of these technics in conjunction with some other technics like use of controled fire to create fire breaks or the cut to lenght technic were even bad trees can be used and sold to get some profit leaving only the best trees. So in other words its a good technic that can be used with other technics to prevent and mitigate the effects of wildfires.
This is common sense... that's why California liberal retards are against it.
I'm a wildlife biologist and wildland firefighter. Fuels reduction is becoming a higher priority, particularly in the Western States, as a way to reduce the severity, frequency, and damage/property loss of wildfires. There's definitely value in managing underbrush in areas where it's become overgrown (above what would be considered natural for the ecosystem) due to invasive species, changes in land use, or simply a lack of proper maintenance (e.g., cutting, grazing, prescribed burning, etc.). In western conifer forests, thick underbrush can move fire into the upper tree canopy and become a crown fire that is more severe, harder to control, and has significant impacts on the ecosystem and human health. While these kinds of fires have happened naturally for a very long time, they happened at very long intervals and are increasing in frequency, which is why Federal and State agencies typically do a lot of fuels reduction and prescribed burning to keep brushy fuels at healthier levels. Local towns are also trying to do fuel reductions to prevent property loss and damage from wildfires. I hope this helps!

Maybe a little less talk & more brush-cutting & instructions.
I know you've worked with these things, but is swinging them like that advisable? That's not the sort of directional felling I was taught. I guess that's only for really thin brush like in the video.
What size of saw running I think I'll purchase one
I have a question: my relative has one of these spacing saws and showed me how to use it. He was trained by the department of transportation for highway clearing. There were two methods he showed me: the one you demonstrated with light brush, and another for larger 1-2" diameter trees where you bump the saw blade against the tree so it chips away at it until you cut through it.
I was using it this way once and a friend who's very well experienced with chainsaws said I wasn't supposed to do that and I was going to damage the bearing at the cutting head. He said i should be just cutting slowly like you would use a circular saw to cut a piece of dimensional lumber. Which method is correct?
I use a 545fr and you can wail on them all day against trees. The bearing is not what's going to fail. Eventually the shaft coller will break before you damage the bearing.

I still have an old FS400. I prefer it any day over Stihl's latest generation of clearing saws.
It's lighter, more maneuverable and hasn't got that fang dango guard on it.

@@TopiAS06 That's correct. 2 stroke is an on-off motor. Either it's idling or WOT, but no half-throttle. It's also a work safety thing, not going WOT increases kickback risk

There is no need to swing your arms like that, maintain a 90 degree angle to your arms and pivot at the hips and rev the engine higher for more efficient use of the saw. You look inexperienced with a clearing saw.

This is a terrible video, he just finishes sharpening the saw and then proceeds to hack and swing his saw in the direction of the young hardwoods. As a professional cutter I can tell you to not follow any of his advice on cutting with a clearing saw, really bad instruction. His brother should do these types of videos, he is the pro.
