    I think we were on Ruby the week after you (July 16-23) and were very lucky to have great weather most of the cruise. We also did walk to Nugget Falls but beach was flooded from rain the week before so we couldn’t walk out on beach in front of falls, however, we saw a porcupine in a tree enroute.

      I'm glad you had good weather. Sorry to hear about Nugget Falls - hopefully you got to enjoy the view from the other parts of the park.

    For Alaska you may want to consider Holland America. All of their ships have a pool that has a sliding cover, that can be closed when it is cold. Also they visit Glacier Bay as well. Usually mostly adults on the cruise very few kids.

      Thank you for the tip! I’m looking forward to being back on board Holland America soon.

    Thank you for the review. The Ruby Princess is one of our least favorite ships in the fleet. We much prefer the Royal Class ships. That said, the Ruby is still a wonderful ship. We are sailing on the Discovery Princess next month out of Seattle and we will also be going to Glacier Bay National Park. We are really looking forward to our excursion on the White Pass Scenic Railway as we skipped Skagway a couple of years ago due to rock slides at the port. Hope you had; or are having a wonderful trip.

      Thank you! Same to you with your trip. I’ve sailed on Discovery’s sister ship Enchanted and I was impressed.

    Ruby Princess is an older ship and can't be compared to Majestic in any way. I have sailed on both ships, and I like both ships, but I prefer Ruby for her wrap around promenade deck, especially her undercover bow area, which is ideal for Alaska and I called this area the "Whales mouth" during my 5 week adventure with her. Majestic is harder to navigate, in my opinion, with Ruby having the traditional Princess layout. Ruby does need a "spruce up" in some areas, but I would happily sail with her again in her current condition. I feel Covid had an impact on the current situation regarding staffing levels, with many crew members finding alternative jobs during the shutdown and some feeling nervous about rejoining in fear of a return to the Covid days especially with norovirus seemingly on the increase. Cruise lines are also cutting back on staffing levels in order to recoup their losses during the shutdown. However, that excuse doesn't fly with cruising levels increasing substantially and exceeding the pre Covid levels.

      I like both ships as well but think Majestic is more suited to Alaska itineraries with its large indoor pool and observation lounge. I also love the wraparound promenade on Grand class ships.

      @TheChillCruiser I must agree with Majestic being more suitable for Alaska for the reasons you mentioned. I love the cold weather, which is why I enjoyed being outside in the whale mouth while in Alaska, and admittedly, I was alone up the front 🙃

    Does it make a difference what side of the train you sit on in Skagway?

    • @TheChillCruiser
      @TheChillCruiser  Před měsícem

      Both sides eventually see everything since the train loops around for the return portion. Left side let’s you see the best parts first vs having to wait for the trip back.

      We’re doing our first Alaska cruise on the Ruby Princess in August and your video is very informative.
