UFC 300 is almost upon us. We're about to find out who is the baddest MF'ER: Justin Gaethje or Max Holloway? Laura Sanko and Din Thomas explain the history of the BMF title and preview the fight.
The Rock wrapped the BMF belt around Jorge Masvidal in its first iteration in 2019 after he beat up Nate Diaz. It was the unintentional beginning of the BMF series which continued to with Masvidal crowning Gaethje as the new BMF in town after his violent head kick rendered Dustin Poirier unconscious.
Justin Gaethje, who currently boasts the moniker of the 'Baddest Mother F****r' after his win vs Dustin Poirier will be challenged by the 'Daddest Man' on the planet, Max Holloway at UFC 300.

Hey Laura: Random, but do you think that one day you could make a video breaking down the details of O'malley's skills? You are really good at breaking down and analyzing the details and the intricate things most people overlook especially if they aren't that versed in martial arts. With that being said, I would love to see you go over some details and footage of things you think O'malley does well because if you really think about it, we really haven't seen someone like O'malley with O'malley's skills before. He really is a unique blend of skills with the ability to use them in the fight fully flowing, not over thinking.

Then talked about the Diaz vs Masvidal fight for the BMF belt being stopped over a cut and they should have let it continue. I agree, and the only reason that fight got stopped is because it was in NYC. You have to remember that their commission was still extremely new to sanctioning MMA fights to even happen in their state. So not only was there a huge lack if experience from their commission and doctors working the event. I'd imagine they were also concerned about them potentially letting anything go too far and having certain people upset and them have a bad look as a state who just began allowing MMA. Regardless, that fight would have never been stopped for that same cut in Las Vegas. In fact, we saw Nate fight in Vegas after that fight and that same cut opened up like it always does, but even worse than in NYC and they didn't stop it. Vegas has let fights continue with much worse than what Nate had against Jorge.

@@jaket2142 Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the cut wasn't nasty. I'm just saying that it wasn't bad enough to grant the fight being stopped, and I honestly think it would have been controversial regardless of the BMF belt. Personally, I don't even factor the BMF belt in their decision to stop it over that cut, and that I feel that they shouldn't have. I just look at the cut in general and the context of all of the worse cuts we've seen under different commissions where they let fights continue. Not just Nate with worse cuts, but multiple fighters with worse cuts or far worse injuries that they let continue.
I always thought the BMF belt was just an excuse to get more money - now it’s championship money not just a regular fight. But it really doesn’t mean anything, there’s only one real champ in each weight division.
Nate 16-11 in the UFC. Never even close to a BMF.
just a reminder: Dustin dominated Max 4 rounds to 1 at 155lb. I am sure Max will look physically a lot better than last time he was 155lb, yet still I don't think his punches are gonna bother Justin at all.

Not to be disrespectful to the fighters who have fought for it, it feels like it's the belt that's not a belt for fighters who can't seem to get over the line for an actual Championship. Max as a former champ bucks that trend though. I'm not sure the fight will be any better because of the BMF belt, but I'm not strongly against it either, mainly a hype tool for the UFC to try to get more PPV buys.
Both Alvarez and Poirier melted Gaethje with volume and Alvarez especially with body work as well. I think Gaethje is actually more susceptible to accumulative damage than just one big shot. That being said Max’s volume is much lower vs guys with good footwork (Volk, Yair, Allen) and Gaethjes footwork is his most underrated attribute. So if Gaethje can keep Holloway to only a few punches at a time like the 3 I mentioned did, I think Gaethje’s power and timing will be too much. But if Max comes prepared to walk through some of that and put his hands together OR wait for Gaethje to slow down a bit before he turns his volume up, I think he could melt Gaethje in the 4th

I think there are no lucky kicks but I would like to know what would have happened if Justin hadn't nailed that kick, Dustin is very tough, we already saw what happened in their first fight.
Max fights downhill with weight on his front leg. Much like Justin used to. Max also doesn't use a lot of head movement. I think it is because he is so good at changing angles and hiding behind volume that he gets away with it. Justin is going to destroy that leg. He's going to find that immobile head.

I'm just sad the UFC forced this into existence when Ilia vs Max could've been next and Islam vs Gaethje could've happened within a month or two from now. Both these dudes had MASSIVE title fights lined up and now have to fight eachother & likely wait even longer before they get it.

I agree but max's logic on Volk deserving a rematch is sound. IMO losing @ 155 shouldn't change his rank @ featherweight. Ilia fights Volk in a rematch then Holloway. Same with dustin vs Islam then Gaethje gets the next shot (imagine dustin wins that's a title Fight TRILOGY).
@@joealbarella2493 The issue isn't that both of these dude's lose their respective title shots - it's more that there's potentially life changing damage either could do on one another in this fight. NO ONE leaves a Gaethje fight the same and people are really downplaying Max's chances against Gaethje but Gaethje really doesn't do well against volume. We could end up in a world where win or lose, both of these dudes fight for a title but can't give their 100% because of this very BMF fight.

No Clue...Why did Islam Come out and say after this fight was made that he was tired of waiting and ready to fight?? Why wasn't Justin vs Islam Made? I fell like the UFC made this BMF title to fill in the space because Islam didn't want to be on 300. So he gets to sit out while Justin fight again...but now Dustin is in talks to get the next title fight. Which would make it two times that dustin got a title fight when someone else should have..and both time it was the dagestani's that wasn't ready to fight..so the ufc filled the space and keep the division moving. Tony got screwed for saying he wanted to wait for khabib..so dana made Dustin vs max anyway for the intrim that tony was stripped of for no reason. Now Dustin gets to slide right in to the title after justin ko'd him while islam gets to wait. By the time Islam fights again it'll be close to 8 months from his last fight.
