This woman was a Saint of a human being, raised in the fashion of honesty, loyalty, respect, and music. She is so sweet and nice and plays the guitar with grace.

I used to listen to Etta and my grandmother play together on my grandmother's front porch in Collettsville, NC when I was 3 and 4 years old.
I really regret not having her teach me how to play.

Wow, that's incredible! Funny thing is, I met Eric Clapton in the 80's and thought that was a big deal. But the truth is, Eric learned from folks like Etta Baker!

I love that story she told about quitting her job. She is so straight forward and personal, it makes her music seem accessible. I almost feel like I know her, even though I've never met her. She is truly one of my favorite blues artists.

I knew Ms Etta personally. Her grandson was my drummer in a Blues Band/R&B band we put together in the mid 2000's. It consisted of myself: guitar, Amos Brown : guitar Dale Dula Bass/vocalist, Stacy Kincaid: Keys.. the original drummer was Sheldon Davis, Ms Ettas grandson. and we used Randy Pennell on Drums after Sheldon left the band. Played at Ms Ettas home several times....went to her wake...she will be missed. RIP Ms Etta.

Her accent reminds me so much of my grandmother's accent, and the accents of her family (most of them are dead now -- but she's holding on strong!). My grandmother's accent is a lot weaker, though -- she claims she worked purposefully to get rid of it.

Great interview. I never heard about the thumb & pointer style of play which seems to call back to banjo styles. And Etta talking about dreaming chords & then waking up & recreating them crossword puzzle style really gives insight into the musicians mind & the brain in general. Crazy interplay between the conscious & subconscious minds. Morganton, NC, gateway the...west

I find it interesting how around 5 minutes in he mentions all the technical styles names and so forth to her and she seems not to even know them, yet she has an amazing developed style. And it seems to me that many "guitar Players" some accomplished some not like to talk up playing the guitar with all these fancy names and terms when in reality the most natural and best sounding blues came from simplicity, along the way there were more creations and advancements but simplicity I find is key...
