- Part of a one hour color documentary about the women of NC acoustic blues, playing in the so-called "Piedmont" style. Etta Baker, Algie Mae Hinton, Cora Phillips, Odell Thomas, and others. Great music!
Shot in 1989. Many of these great players have since passed on.
Love hearing her stories of the old days, making great breakfasts, and playing music. What a life. R.i.p. Etta Baker and Cora Phillips
I could listen to these two babes talk and play all evening. I am green with envy that they spent their youths playing so much music, and greener with envy that they do it so well.
This video is a jewel. Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience.
Wonderful stuff - thanks so much for posting this
The way Etta talks about her life makes me happy
wow!! what a treasure this video - thanks for sharing
I love seeing the sisters jamming together! Etta Baker is my favorite!
Fantastic ❤❤❤
I grew up listening to this like her all in my family here in sw va, and fiddlers conventions. Everyone plays like that and bluegrass. I can't get away from it. My style always goes back to default piedmont style no matter how I start off.
thank you so much. I had heard of etta baker , but hadnt heard her...how can people ever complain they are bored? maybe they are bore-ing....
My elders, and our history. Gold!
a great way to raise a family

Yes. The best style
Super long shot considering how old this video is, but do any folks happen to know what this clip is from? Im trying to research the history of the Piedmont blues more and this seems like an incredible start
This is from Step It Up and Go: Blues in the Carolinas. The full doc is on youtube.
