    It’s been over 6 years since I’ve last flown on AeroMexico, and I was curious to see if anything had changed since then (other than my inability to pronounce anything in Spanish that sounded at least halfway convincing).
    This video is is a detailed review of AeroMexico 787-8 business class from Los Angeles (LAX) to Mexico City (MEX). As you will see, it was an excellent flight with great food, an amazing cabin crew, and spectacular scenery.
    I had seat 3J for this 3 and a half hour flight, and the aircraft registration was N964AM.

    Smoked salmon is not exactly raw fish. This is how it is prepared. Smoked salmon is a preparation of salmon, typically a fillet that has been cured and hot or cold smoked. Due to its moderately high price, smoked salmon is considered a delicacy. Although the term lox is sometimes applied to smoked salmon, they are different products. The whole procees was a way of preserving he salmon so that it could be eaten once the salmon season was over. Obviously im going back to the days before salmon farming.

    I am glad that Aeromexico is bringing back Premier service. Last year, I flew from Guadalajara to Los Angeles and from Mexico City to New York City (both flights in Clase Premier, on full-paid tickets) and all we got was a burned piece of what appeared to be an uneatable grilled cheese sandwich. No headphones, no pre-departure drink service, no champagne, and overall a pretty substandard experience for the price paid. As the national airline, I always flew with them to either Paris or Madrid in economy class (pre-covid) and their service and overall experience was nothing but spectacular. It would not even compare to my US trips in first class but I guess the pandemic and Chapter 11 took a heavy toll on them. It is great to see that the company is recovering, along with the whole industry.

      I agree - they do seem to be coming back. My next video (Aeromexico Premier Class on the 737 MAX 9 MEX-TIJ) will show what domestic service is like nowadays. It wasn’t as nice as LAX-MEX, but I still thought it was a good experience.

      They did order the newer ones like that. Since the 788s were some of the very first orders Boeing got they got an older seat model on those. They are scheduled to be reconfigured within the next few years so eventually they will all be 1-2-1. It indeed is a way better seat.

    Onboard one now. mEX-GRU. Disappointed in this stupid configuration for seats. Especially after having just flown LAX~MEX on one of their 787-9s. They should always be using their best cabins on their longest flights. But I’m sure I’ll hear the overused excuse that “they’re working on it” and that cabin refreshes take time.

      The right side! That’s the side to see all the terminals.

    The seats look quite thin, and I absolutely hate the colours (ultra picky) but I definitely wouldn't say no to it
    Aeromexico are probably one of my favourite carriers in the Americas (following JBU of course), but their dreamliners look much better than BA and LATAM's older 2-2-2 config

    Raw fish? It’s smoked, also why are the dimming windows confusing?

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  Před 2 lety +1

      As the person who ate it, I can assure you that it wasn’t smoked. It was fine though. As for the dimmers, the delay between input and action is what makes it confusing. The dimming isn’t instant, so it always makes me think I didn’t press hard enough (or the switch is broken).

    I did a flight from TLV to LHR with BA back in March before the UK lifted the mask mandate (in airports and planes) and got upgraded to business class, and basically 1 hour into the flight the mandate wasn't really enforced, in fact they plied me with drinks and I didn't wear one in the terminal (I wasn't the only one)(I was a bit tipsy by that point 😉). No one cared, thankfully as a I hate the bloody things (I nearly had a panic attack at one point). This also happened to me on a BA business class flight from KEF to LHR back in September last year! I think the crews were getting annoyed with them (In fact I know they were as I have some insider info). Interesting the difference in culture between North America and the UK. Most people stopped bothering wearing them a while back (Yes someone might say "oh but covid infections are up", but this is almost certainly not due to masks, and has a lot to do with other factors).
    Re your last video, the reason you probably got ill a lot pre covid was because the air tends to be a lot drier on planes (very noticeable in 777s, so much better on 787s!). Also their were probably a lot more viruses circulating, and other factors. Also it seems N95 masks are better than the blue ones if you want any protection as they are 46% effective if there are no gaps (basically clamped to your face). If there are gaps, their effectiveness falls to 3%. Mechanical ventilation along with HEPA filters (and surface cleaning) are the way to go in closed environments... or you could use a respirator.

      It was difficult to show it, but the cabin crew on this flight was very good actually. Proactive and very helpful. And yes, there was a hot meal option - but I chose the salmon after seeing a pic of the hot meal on the Aeromexico website. 😄 The wine list looked so-so though.
