What poor commentary. You'd think there was only the USA and Canada competing. Apart from one mention of Great Britain, I'd not a clue who else was running. They didn't even tell us who came second and third.

Boycotted by all the Eastern Bloc women's teams so there was no GDR or USSR who would have been the other two medallists. But we know those teams were all on drugs so this is probably the true medallists with U.S. and Canada. Marita Payne who ran anchor for Canada is the mother of NBA player Andrew Wiggins. For Canada this race is still the national record 37 years later.

Our Women in 1984 was not mediocre. They broke the Olympic Record thanks to Brisco Hooks and Cheeseborough. They were also not whipped easily in 1988. Yes, they won the Silver, but thanks again to Brisco and FloJo they not only broke the American Record, but they were also 2nd fastest ever only to the USSR women. If the USSR would not have run, then our Women would have been the World and American Record Holders.

American were whipped badly in Seoul? Really?
The women won the 100, 200, 4x1, and took silver in the 400 and 4x4 (a 3:15.51 time that is still the second fastest time to date).
The men won the 100, 200, 400, 400 hurdles, 110 hurdles and 4x4. The 4x1 was DQ'd otherwise they would've swept the sprints. Kenya won gold in the 800, 1500, steeple, 5,000 and 10,000. The Eastern block countries weren't whipping anyone badly in Seoul.

@@thomasmckenzie4584 With all of the accomplishments in 1988, American Louise Ritter also won the Gold Medal in the High Jump. Ritter was known not to do so well in the Big Meets, like the 1984 Summer Olympic Games and the 1987 World Track and Field Championships in Rome, Italy, but in Seoul in 1988, Ritter beat her big Rival from Bulgaria, Stefka Kostinadova in a dramatic jump off. Ritter won the jump off, and won on her final jump. Both had I am thinking 3 failed attempts. The Lady from Bulgaria took the 4th jump and missed again. Ritter jumped the 4th time and won. Seoul would be her last Olympics, but it was her most Golden Olympic Games!!!!
