    We loooooooved cloth diapering our daughter when she was little. We saved all the diapers and are now going to use them on baby sister. We're hoping to use them from birth this time, last time we used them from about week 5.
    Have you looked into EC (elimination communication)? We did a lighter/easier version where we sat baby on the potty (from 5 weeks) whenever we changed her diaper, and after a short while she totally caught on and would from then most often go poop on the potty. It saved us a lot of hassle having to deal with poopy diapers. I urge everyone to give it a go, it's easier than having to learn baby's signs and signal (ec at its core) for when they need to go potty.

    Love this video and the realness. I feel like cloth diapering gets the same stigma as breastfeeding....in the way that people think it has to be all or nothing. We put cloth ones on my son for daytime and use bamboo based disposable ones just for night and travel. It works for us and is a happy middle ground. And buying them second hand is super affordable. I go back and forth between loving insert diapers and all in one ones. Thanks for bringing awareness to a topic that intimidates so many people!

      A great tip for night nappies is little lambs bamboo nappies. They are a 2 in one system. I used a fleece cover as these I found last the best over night. It can be very hit and miss and we sometimes used natural disposables at night too. Wool covers are great for nighttime too.

    You look like a legit goddess wow. Im so sorry your neck has not been well at all. This pandemic is giving me the most gratitude for the littlest things like home workouts, and going to the store and not leaving without not getting half of my grocery list. Never ever take anything that’s hard to do right now and go places. Having to hold your baby is the littlest thing and so sad you couldn’t. I want to wish you a Happy Birthday your a Taurus and I’m Gemini so we’re gonna have our first quarantine birthday’s together i hope it’s a great day nonetheless!

    I have a 6 month old & he’s started playing with solids recently. We started having a hard time getting the diapers clean & we started storing the dirty diapers in a trash can with water & vinegar. When I throw them in the washer I dump the vinegar water in with them & do a rinse & then heavy wash. This makes them so clean! Before we were doing 2 heavy washes.

    • @Just.another.mom3
      @Just.another.mom3 Před 3 lety +2

      Careful that vinegar can wear the elastics and PUL and snaps, just rinse the poo and then do 2 washes cold then warm

    • @Just.another.mom3

      Sprayers are great for the poo

    • @jasminehamilton7012
      @jasminehamilton7012 Před 3 lety

      A trick for poo diapers is to place a disposable (or fabric/ one reusable wipe) square inside the diaper. If you are using disposable the majority of the poo is simply thrown away. If using fabric these can be separated into a soaking bucket first. I have also seen people reuse and wash the extra over of material if the diaper is just wet, but throw away if soiled! All up to preference but makes a huge difference and means a lot less scrubbing or extra washes equalling the diapers lasting longer!!

I'm cloth diapering my first, and it's been tough (mine have been leaking a lot - but I did get them secondhand). I appreciated that you said you don't do anything special to wash them, as that was a huuuge reason I was afraid to start using cloth diapers. • @seventhecho87
    @seventhecho87 Před 4 lety +1

    Cloth diapers are amazing! And you’re 100% right, they are SO much easier to use than you’d expect. There is a price range for everyone, “China cheapies” like Alva, Bumgenius, $30+ for Blueberry or Smartbottoms or $40+ for work at home mom diapers. You want good detergent because you’re washing the dirtiest laundry you’d ever wash - literal poop. As baby gets older you may find the microfiber inserts aren’t cutting it and you get leaks. Prefolds are an awesome and natural fiber to use! Hemp is also great for night time. Be careful ordering Bamboo/Charcoal Bamboo from amazon - be sure to check the fiber content. A lot of times it’s just a very thin layer of of bamboo terry and a microfiber core. We cloth diapers both babies and now I sew them for a business! They’re addicting!

  • @emileeengelhardt9373
    @emileeengelhardt9373 Před 4 lety

    I’ve cloth diapered 3 babies from infancy to potty train. We use Alva pockets exclusively! What I would say is : yes 18 if fine! BUT if you can have closer to 30, the diapers will get used less per child, and will not need replaced for YEARS. I have the same diapers that I bought for my first baby and they still are in wonderful condition. I don’t baby mine either! We use tide, and dry in the dryer on medium heat! In 2019, I had my 2year old, 1yr old, and newborn ALL in Alva cloth diapers! Saves us thousands. Formula poop is water solvable just like breastmilk poop. :)

    Thanks for making this video, Nikki! I got one set of Alva Baby diapers and my baby hasn't been born yet, so not sure yet if I'll like them but this makes me hopeful! I've also seen other brands/non-pocket diapers that have different types of inserts that snap right inside of the covers so you can potentially reuse the covers more than once.

    I've always wondered about cloth diapers but never really had any good information on how it actually works day to day. I'm currently not pregnant or planning to be any time soon, but I do love the idea of cloth diapers! :D I LOVE these types of videos because things that might seem 'common knowledge' to a lot of mums, are not to people who are planning on having a child but just want to educate themselves some more first :)

    Love the video! Very informative. My perspective as an infant "teacher" AKA care taker in a Pennsylvania Daycare: If you plan to use cloth diapers while sending your child into a public childcare center, PLEASE don't forget to have a conversation with the teachers/caretakers of the room. Many preschools/daycares do not offer professional development/training when it comes to cloth diapers. It never hurts to make sure the teachers/caregivers are familiar with them. ALSO- check in with the teachers about the diapering situation as time goes on. I had a child in my care who we used cloth diapers with, and at first they were great! But over time it became quite a nuisance. Despite changing him every hour, trying different brands of diapers, etc. He was just constantly leaking out of them. We were having to change his clothing multiple times a day because of the diaper leakage. Thankfully, his mother was flexible and understood how it was becoming an issue. He also was quite a healthy, but wonderfully chunky baby, so his legs would get severe chaffing from the leg holes. Each baby is different, so this situation could be less common than other cloth diaper users. Hope this helps give some perspective from a teacher/caregiver point of view!

    I worked full time outside the house and I was lucky enough to find a daycare that would use the cloth diapers. So I needed about 30 diapers to be able to make sure I had enough clean and dry every day to send to daycare. I used Alva Baby too though, and bought some of mine second hand. I only paid about $160 for all my diapers plus the pail and diaper sprayer and I never noticed a difference in water or power when I was cloth diapering. Cloth diapering for us was SUCH a money saver!

    I don’t know why videos about babies are so intriguing to me but this was super informative! When I do decide to start a fam, I think I’ll have to try this! I’ve always wondered about the environmental impact of disposables. Thanks for the video! Hopefully my future fam will be as adorable as yours

    As someone who cloth diapered for almost two years, the Alva Baby diapers held up the best. I never dried mine in the dryer at least not the shells and I always just used Tide detergent.

    I LOVE your enthusiasm! I literally just bought two sets of the Alva diapers and have been watching TONS of videos about them. Your video is my favorite! Absolutely love the comparison to the postpartum diaper. Oh my gosh! So true! Thank you for the encouragement! It was so needed because, at first, it can be so intimidating (especially if everyone in your family thinks you’re 😜 ). Happy New Year!

      A trick for poo diapers when baby starts eating solids is to place a disposable (or fabric/ one reusable wipe) square inside the diaper.

    I’m terms of laundry soap, try laundry washing soda! Great for a more “natural” option and you can add it in to the load when you use the natural laundry detergent. I don’t know about cloth diapers but I add it to any of my super dirty or heavy wash items and I love it! Plus you could add essential oils of your own choosing

    My baby boy is 9 weeks old and I LOVE cloth nappies/diapers. I'm using a mix of muslins, prefolds and wraps, all in ones and pocket nappies. Pocket nappies are my favourite so far.
    Anyone UK based and like the look of these Alva pocket nappies...I really recommend Little Lamb. They're good value, made in the UK and the quality is amazing.

      I loved little lambs. Although I didn’t rate the covers. The elastic on the legs was very harsh as it’s a double gusset. I don’t think I tried their pocket nappies. Just the bamboo nappies with a cover. I preferred fleece or minky covers
