      I did 14 months inside. I got sentenced to 3 years :) I got off a bit light luckily, mainly because I had a lot of support and it was an "out of character" crime. Woop!

    I served around 24 months of a three and a half year Prison sentence and I saw very little violence. I found the first three months were very hard then I got use to it. My advice is to accept where you are rather than where you think you want to be.

    Mate really? Telling boys that they shouldn’t drop the soap? I’ve done years in prison and never seen anyone get sexually assaulted. Then on the other hand you’ve just advised someone who doesn’t know anything about jail to grab someone’s parcel which will definitely get them chivved up.

    My number 1 point, dont go to prison it's just a waste of your life. Ive spent nearly ten years of my life in 8 different prisons and i regret every second of it.

    My prison experience was positive. 1) I had a roof over my head and I didn't have to pay rent. 2) I got three meals a day and the food was better than the microwave meals from Aldi. 3) I didn't have to pay child maintenance. 4) I didn't have to pay tv licence to watch liberal drivel on BBC. 5) education was provided for free. 6) free access to library. 7) I didn't get woken up by boy racers at 2am revving their engines and racing around the streets. 8) didn't have to pay council tax. 9) fine tuned lots of new skills. 10) I learnt my rights and how to say no comment to the police. 11) have a greater awareness of the legal system. 12) realised that not everyone in prison is guilty of anything.

    Hi, Jack - came across your vlogs by accident after watching a mental health documentary - & I am enjoying them - & so pleased you have done them. I have a fear that one day I shall end up in prison, though I am a law abiding citizen, I do have mental health issues & I believe you did at the time of your offence.
    I am looking forward to watching more & finding out more about you and your time served.
    Nice to see a North West England chap on here, best wishes to you from Salford.

    You was in Forrest Bank.. That was the first jail I went to.. I got 3 years when I was 18 I was on remand at that point.. I did see some violence there.. Some kid got killed on my wing for burn debts.. The lad threw a metal flask at him then two of his boys dragged him into a cell and twatted his head of the metal shelves.. Loads of fights and bullying. Someone else cut his own ear off to get go the hospital and his mates sprung him..
    I agree with what you said..
    Don't get in debts and don't let anyone take the piss.. I went to Walton two years ago when I was 25 and that was a shock how much worse that jail had gone.. I seen violence every day.. Seen lads getting slashed on my second day i was in the showers and some big ginger lad got slashed across his face and chest.. The screws dragged him onto the landings covered in blood.. Thats the kind of thing that was happening every day,because of spice! Everything about there was bad I'm never going back!

      Can I ask a few questions? Firstly I am not In legal trouble and I also know you were In a youth detention but...
      If I ever homeless I'd purposely commit a crime to go to jail I have a very few friends and family so I'd rather go to the slammer then spend time rotting away freezing my ass off and not having a bed to sleep In!
      My questions for you are?
      1.) Is It true that butt rape and that stuff very rarely happens? If so how can you minimize this threat?
      2.) Is It possible to avoid poeple as much as possible? Is It possible to avoid all trouble? What are the areas that are most dangerous?
      Can you spend most of your time In your cell?
      3.) How to avoid getting kettled?
      4.) What to do and what not to do?
      I know gambling, drugs, gangs, ect are extremely bad news and to stay way from them?

    Good advice Jack. I would add take your time to settle in and don`t draw any attention to yourself by being anti-social,loud,or by getting into debt. When your ready and you have sussed things out pick your mates carefully. Don`t go out of your way to annoy the officers they will always win. And go to mass on Sunday. Keep a diary,write lots of letters,be kind,be strong it will pass. Save a treat for the long night[a smoke,a bit of grub,a newspaper,etc].And unless you have no choice avoid violence. It is lovely to get to the gate without losing even one more day than you had to do.Again good stuff Jack i hope you never go back inside again.

You are correct as you don't have to be a hard man to survive if you got something about you. My advice to anyone looking at jail time is to remember it will not be as awful as you imagine. Also the first night is the worst for nearly everyone just realising the isolation, sleeping on that bed, looking around your square box, it is really just the realisation of what is going on and it is sinking in. They do advise of this when you first get booked in as well and they do keep an eye on you. It is not uncommon to hear grown men crying like babies through the night, many of them just entering, some of them been there years and just getting to breaking point. The worst thing about prison is the ISOLATION pure and simple, its lonely and it does get to you with to much time to have regrets about all your mistakes, but as long as you better them and think of ways to improve then it can be a good thing in the end.

    On the whole the guy is talking the truth, but he is talking from a adults perspective only. In adults prison its a fairly easy life. TV in ur cell,jobs and a hell of alot of time out of ur cell.
    YPs(young offenders) is far far harder. Ranging from daily fights, robberies and bullying.
    If any1 needs advice on any of these jails i will help any1 who needs it.

    zBotted Hey dude. Good questions. All depends on how nasty you want to be for getting rid of a cell mate. There are loads of ways. The gym is a slight risk area as well, I should have mentioned that one. Its a dangerous area for fights and there can be trades taking place there between wings yeah. Simple, stand your ground if you dont want to be manipulated, if you say to someone "I'm not doing that" and they try and force you, just stand your ground, you might get in a fight over it, but if your forceful enough they wont bother you again. I can talk more about these questions and more on this weeks video. Thanks for the questions :)

      @JackHill1  Před 10 lety +8

      I disagree Charlie Browm - being in prison is boring for most of the time yes, but there are occasionally very interesting moments and for people on the outside, its a bit of a fascination I think.

    • @remsensor
      @remsensor Před 9 lety +3

      Jack Hill I found it's a bit of both. Your horribly bored but at the same time on edge the whole time. The best way I can describe it is imagine the feeling you get when a cop stops you and you know your fucked. Well imagine instead of the cop leaving and getting a sense of relief, that oh shit I'm fucked feeling just kind of stays there the whole time for the most part. Rather it anticipating court dates, waiting and wondering how your going to act when you hit general pop, ETC. Jail/prison is allot like going to high school. It's boring, you don't want to be there, the food is shit, everyone is into everyone's business,the whole clique/group thing is back, and there is 2 or 3 assholes that think they run the show. Allot of it will also depend on the luck of the draw in terms of where your doing your time. I did time in one place that sucked so much ass that they made everyone wait 30 days in isolation before they even let you into a pod. The pod had one television that had 4 channels and the reception was so bad you could hardly see it. The place was cold and dirty. Because of the shitty conditions everybody was always on edge and starting fights. Another jail I did time at had me housed immediately, had televisions in cells with over 40 channels, decent food for jail food, was clean, and everybody got along. Hell I would have random inmates come over, invite me to play spades, and try to cheer me up when I was feeling down. So yeah, a major factor in serving time depends on where your going to be doing your time at. Always aim for minimum security if you can get it.

He respected people and mixed with guys in for some serious time but he got on and they kept him right . Thank you for sharing your experience it was really helpful and some of the things you have said has made me want to explore effects of prison psychologically. My question would be what coping strategies did you use whilst in prison and also effects of leaving prison. Also, what identity would you adopt whilst in prison as in would you see yourself as a prisoner or simply Jack for example. Sorry to bombard you with question I am thinking of a research topic to study Forensic Psychology Doctorate and I am really keen on offedning behavior and life in prison.
