They figured out how to make microphones decades ago, cheap video was stuck with Super8 film until the 90's

Stan always seemed to be a master of his sound. Some of his best versions of songs are his live ones.

Well, I rise up every morning at a quarter to eight
Some woman who's my wife tells me not to be late
I kiss the kids goodbye, I can't remember their names
And week after week, it's always the same
And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right
Nothing ever happens in the life of mine
I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line
Then it's code in the data, give the keyboard a punch
Then cross-correlate and break for some lunch
    Correlate, tabulate, process and screen
Program, printout, regress to the mean
And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right
Nothing ever happens in the life of mine
I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line
Then it's home again, eat again, watch some TV
Make love to my woman at ten-fifty-three
I dream the same dream when I'm sleeping at night
I'm soaring over hills like an eagle in flight
And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right
Nothing ever happens in the life of mine
I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line
Someday I'm gonna give up all the buttons and things
I'll punch that time clock till it can't ring
Burn up my necktie and set myself free
Cause no'one's gonna fold, bend or mutilate me
And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right
Nothing ever happens in the life of mine
I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line

I have a very happy memory of seeing them perform the White Collar Holler at the Groaning Board in Toronto in the summer of 1980.

      Hi Duncan
Not sure if you are on Facebook. If so, the Cape Breton Historical Music Society has some performances of these guys in there video section. You have to sort through a large number of other performers but they're on there. Perhaps just watch them all! Some great music in there! 😊

Are you hanging on to any other footage than the 4 videos from this you've uploaded? Does he do any of his bigger hits in this set? Barrett's Privateers? Northwest Passage? Mary Ellen Carter?

    • @BenInSeattle
      @BenInSeattle Před 2 měsíci

According to the Set List wiki, he did sing (or intended) to sing his bigger hits. I wonder if CZcams automatically removed them as "copyright violations" because they sound so similar to his released album recordings.
Here's the supposed set list, though perhaps it was from the second show he did that night. There is clearly a difference from this video with #2 being "Look-out Hill" rather than "The Witch of the Westmorland":
      Date: May 28 1983,
      Artist: Stan Rogers,
Venue: McCabe's Guitar Shop, Santa Monica, CA, USA
      1. The White Collar Holler
      2. The Witch of the Westmorland
      3. Three Fishers
      4. The Field Behind the Plow
      5. The House of Orange
      6. White Squall
      7. Half of a Heart
      8. Barrett's Privateers
      9. Lock-Keeper
      10. The Mary Ellen Carter
      11. Song of the Candle
      12. Down the Road
