That’s awesome! The film originally aired on Super Sports in South Africa and I think they were the highest TV ratings we got anywhere in the world. South African passion for rugby is the only thing that matches New Zealand. The Springbok/All Blacks connection is a very special one in the world of rugby. And I love SA - been there seven times and made my first film there.
Stay in touch with your dad as much as you possibly can, and treasure that relationship because you will miss it tremendously when it is not there anymore. I really enjoyed the video. I was not sure what to make of it at first but as it unfolded it became much more emotionally connective and its really a story about you and your family. Pretty inspiring stuff

Greetings from the USA. I've never lost my drive to see the New Zealand national team play. I'm proud to be a Kiwi, people over here barely know we exist, by many who even know rugby know of the All Blacks. I'm today's age i think we've lost our edge, but New Zealandersv should always be proud that we are here in such high esteem, and no matter what we are still held in high regard and seen as the team to beat.
I've always followed my countries teams with pride and hope, no matter which code, v and my late father always kept me in touch with current events as much as possible. I hope in 2023 we prove the nay sayers wrong and win through, but when push comes to shove life will go on, and i hope I'm still proud of our people for trying to be the best against countries with bigger populations.
As an added fact, my father once told me that the are more Americans playing rugby than the are New Zealanders. I think that says something about us.

The All Blacks are always winners, they give 200 % and play for 5 million passionate supporters.They play hard but with respect for the opposition.
We all live in a special place. Aotearoa New Zealand is unique. For me, a 66 year old Kiwi, the greatest thing about home is that our beautiful, diverse landscapes have a more beautiful and diverse whanau.Cannot wait for our first African or Asian born All Black. We are nowhere near perfect, at least our failures are recognised and we know what to focus on.

I really enjoyed that, love my rugby, being having a tuff time with the eldest, who gave up last season, he's a half decent back, but some how he's found his way home. it really is the best game ever invented. If you have crossed the white line, you know what it feels like.

Thoroughly enjoyed this documentary, as a kiwi (Born in Christchurch), left NZ when I was 19, to work in south east Asia, 9where I missed the last apartheid springbok tour, seeing tall chainlink fences being torn apart by protestors while transiting Changi Airport, is the only lasting memory I have of that series. I then moved to Australia where I was told I couldn't support the Wallabies as they were beating the AB's on a regular basis at that stage; (the Farr Jones and Eels reign) I happily supported the AB's and the Wallabies, I've noticed the Kiwi attitude around the AB's has matured a little, but not a lot, recently I've had words online with Kiwis kicking the AB's for the losing to South Africa in England, After beating them in Sth Africa and NZ!!! The AB's had a few issues before the gameand several ref calls during the game which hadn't helped. But now that the AB's had two huge wins against lesser sides in the pool stage of the RWC, before beating Ireland (#1 in the world) everyone on the planet is saying the AB's went under the radar and are favorites to win the Webb Ellis trophy. WHich feels like a Manic-depressive personality that the AB's have to deal with. But hey, thats why theyre paid the big bucks.
You make some great points there! I definitely feel the Kiwi attitude has matured but we still have the passion. I hope we never lose that passion - I just think we need to channel it and always remember the humanity of the players/coaches. Glad you enjoyed the doco!
In 2007 i was in waiouru doing training with the nz army, we were living in the snow for 2 weeks but we were told we could go to camp and watch the game and stay in the barrack rooms, have hot meals and showers for the night before going back to the training area for another week. we watched the game. kicked the s out of the tv and demanded they take us back to our holes lol. An extra week away from the world was good
I have to say that Ka Mate is probably the most misunderstood part of the AB brand. This is not the AB's fault, but it is a problem that needs to be addressed. Te Rauparaha performs Ka Mate for his enemy Te Wharerangi who saves his life. Te Rauparaha's performance was not a ferocious performance because of where he ascends from. He sat beneath the wife of Te Wharerangi whose name is Te Rangikoaea. This korero is carved into the poutokomanawa on Okahukura wharepuni at Otukou where Te Wharerangi sits atop the poutokomanawa. Te Wharerangi and many of his warriors are killed for saving Te Rauparaha. The people on Okahukura had no guns and bullets like their enemy. Furthermore, these are an ancient people through their Ruatipua line that descends to Okahukura where the maunga sit. The wharepuni Okahukura is named after the whenua that it occupies. So this is the korero about Ka Mate. Jesus said, Greater love has no man, than he lay down his life for his friend. Te Wharerangi lay down his life for his enemy. Is Ka Mate a coincidence? So glad you enjoyed the film. And I agree that the haka is about coming together and even honoring the opposition. It is misunderstood as a purely aggressive act to psyche out the opposition when there is so much more to it than that, as you touched on 👏🏼
